Women’s rights badly violated in case of Aafia Siddiqui: Dr Fowzia

Karachi, March 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said that women’s rights were badly violated in the case of Pakistani mother and noted educationist Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Addressing to a demo in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) on the occasion of International Women’s Day, she said Dr Aafia has been in prison for last 16 years without committing any crime, which shows the height of violation of her rights as a human being and as a women. She said under the Geneva Convention and international human rights laws, women have got special protection and no discriminatory treatment could be meted out to them at any level.

She said when the rulers themselves violate the human rights everything else becomes meaningless. She regretted that in the case of Dr Aafia her basic human and women rights were blatantly violated. She is devoid of all her basic human rights even today. She said the objective of celebrating the international women’s day is raise the awareness about the rights of women. However, a large number of workers of Aafia Movement, women and civil society members attended the demo. Besides Karachi such programs were also held in different parts of the country.

Telephonically addressing an ‘Aafia release camp’ at GT Road, Tarnol, Islamabad, Dr Fowzia said the atrocities meted out to Aafia have shamed the humanity. She said the details of these inhuman atrocities were sent to the government of Pakistan by Pakistani consul general Aisha Farooqui last year. She asked is Aafia not a woman? She said in the US prison, Aafia is facing huge discrimination. She said every prisoner has a right to meet his family, relatives and friends, but Aafia has even no right to talk on telephone with her children and ailing mother. She said there could be no more cruelty than snatching children from a mother.

She said this is very favourable time to seek release of Aafia. She said we have pinned high hopes on Prime Minister Imran Khan and expect that soon he would fulfill his electoral promise of release of Aafia Siddiqui. She said that the nation would soon hear good news and Imran Khan would become a second Muhammad bin Qasim. She said the Indian aggression has united the whole nation. She said the whole nation wants release of Dr Aafia and her return would further motivate the nation and the country would become a real atomic and economic power.
