Telenor to Hold an IoT Hackathon in Lahore

Islamabad, May 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): Riding the phenomenal success of the previous IoT events, Telenor Pakistan is taking it a notch higher with its 2 day ‘Internet of Things (IoT) Hackathon’ in Lahore this weekend on 4th and 5th May. The host – Telenor Pakistan – is one of the major proponents of digital technology in the country, and has pioneered a number of industry-first digital initiatives to deliver greater enablement to its customers.

Internet of Things (IoT)

Of the numerous initiatives by Telenor Pakistan aiming at bringing benefits of technology to masses, Internet of Things (IoT) stands out. Internet of Things basically means internet-enabled devices and solutions that mutually communicate without the need for human input. These intelligent devices and solutions use the information they receive from connected devices to undertake designed tasks in real time.

This innovative technology aims at creating opportunities for consumers, new businesses, developers and professionals to address routine hassles with an increasingly diverse range of solutions. Telenor Pakistan is providing a creative and innovative platform to create unmatched experiences through IoT at the Hackathon.

Telenor has held two IoT events previously in Lahore and Karachi to showcase a range of ground-breaking IoT products and services. The products and services’ range was well received by the participants and users.

IoT Hackathon

The latest instalment of the IoT series, the Telenor IoT Hackathon – in collaboration with Plan9 and DIY Geeks – aims to bring together technology enthusiasts and practitioners from around the country to design novel IoT-based devices and intelligent systems that have real-world application and market potential. The event will take teams through a journey of human-centered design, creative engineering, problem-solving, and team building.

At Telenor Internet of Things Hackathon, Innovators will be asked to respond to day-to-day problems through one-click digital solutions, particularly IoT devices that can “sense, connect, infer, and act.”

Participants will be free to envision and build any device they see representing their mission and vision combining hardware, software, and data science.

Towards the end of the Hackathon, participants will pitch their developed solution to the judges and audience. Ideas pitched at the event will be mentored by top-industry experts, developers of basic technologies, and investors who are interested in potential IoT opportunities to leverage the full potential of Telenor’s IoT platform for upscaling the presented solutions.

Teams or individuals building innovative IoT devices may even get a chance to establish a partnership with other like-minded IoT startups from all over Pakistan.

Entries will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

Business/Application Value

User Experience

Technical Strength of the Solution

Overall team participation

The top three teams will be awarded cash prizes worth PKR 200,000 with free access to Telenor Pakistan’s IoT platform. Additionally, the winners will also be shortlisted for an opportunity to work with Telenor Pakistan. The Telenor IoT hackathon will take place on 4th and 5th May 2018 at ITU, Arfa Software Technology Park in Lahore.
