Karachi, February 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Citizens Foundation brings 15th TCF Golf Tournament to raise funds for the education of the less privileged children. The tournament is set to take place next weekend at the Karachi Golf Club. The fifteenth edition of the tournament will bring together the avid golfers of Karachi to play a friendly golf match in Texas Scramble format. The funds raised from the tournament are expected to enable more than 400 children from the low income communities to get quality education in TCF schools.
According to the latest Pakistan Education Statistics Report by AEPAM, Ministry of Education Pakistan, there are 22.84 million children out of school. UNESCO´s latest published figures suggest Pakistan has the second highest number of out of school children globally after Nigeria. It doesn’t get any better in adulthood, as Pakistan also has the highest number of illiterate adults in the world. To top it all off, we have gender inequality issues in education. Out of the 5.06 million children not going to primary school, 60% are girls. According to recent country statistics, compared to a girl, a boy in Pakistan has a 15% higher chance of going to primary school. (Source: Alif Ailaan)
“The education emergency in Pakistan remains huge with almost half of Pakistan’s children being out of school. The issue breeds many other social problems such as unemployment, poverty, crime, poor health to name a few. We need a collective effort to change this situation because every child has the right to quality education. TCF’s Golf Tournament is an event that we hold each year to highlight the education emergency and our efforts in educating the less privileged children. With the greater support of concerned citizens, we are hopeful that one day we will see an educated and enlightened Pakistan,” said Mushtaq Chhapra, Founder Director, The Citizens Foundation.
With 1,482 school units all over Pakistan and more than 220,000 children getting quality education, TCF model of education is trying to change the situation one child at a time. The Foundation is the largest private employer of women in Pakistan with an all-female faculty of 12,000 teachers and principals. TCF has 220,000 students this year. Nearly half (48%) of TCF students are girls. Eighty-eight percent of TCF alumni have gone to college and 71% are employed.
This year the tournament has been made possible by the support of corporate sponsors, media partners and the well-wishers of TCF who believe that education is the answer to a better Pakistan. Different organisations as well as individuals have come forward to make the TCF Golf Tournament a success while creating education opportunities for the out of school children.
