DG IPO Pakistan Shazia Adnan visits UVAS 

Lahore, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Director General Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan Ms Shazia Adnan along with Deputy Director Moeed and Assistant Controller of Patents Ms Shakra Khurshid paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad at City Campus on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Shazia Adnan acknowledged the UVAS quality of education and research work of faculty members for the benefit of community. She spoke about IPO initiatives, digitalization, online hearing of queries, procedures and time duration for attaining of intellectual property rights/patent filing for the assistance of applicants. She said patent is necessary for the commercialization of research. She said IPO always willing for the assistance of UVAS in enhancing linkages.

Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed Ms Shazia on the UVAS academic, research, extension, advisory services and training programmes. He showed a UVAS video documentary to Ms Shazia to give an overview of UVAS research ongoing projects of faculty won from national and international funding agencies, development interventions, achievements in curricular and extra-curricular activities, student strength and with national and international collaboration, etc.

Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad also mentioned the contribution of UVAS flood relief activities in the worst flood affected areas of Pakistan for the help of flood victims by providing them daily routine necessary items related to food, animal feed and goods in a transparent manner. Local production enhancing is our focus area for research, he added. Later, the DG IPO visited various laboratories and department of City Campus including Biosafety level-3 lab, Meat Processing Plant and Quality Operation Lab etc.

UVAS hold stakeholder meeting on GMO’s issues and future strategies 

Lahore, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Department of Animal Nutrition of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore arranged stakeholder meeting on ‘Genetically Modification Organisms Issues and Future Strategies’ here at City Campus Lahore. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and Vice-Chancellor University of Education Lahore (UE) Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha co-chaired the meeting and sought recommendation/suggestions and technical input from stakeholder regarding the import of genetically modified vegetable meals for poultry feed under provision of Pakistan biosafety rule.

Vegetable (soybean/canola/sunflower) meal is one of the essential ingredients for production of poultry feed. The feed manufacturer and commercial importers need to import such meal from different countries of the world and in order to import these genetically modified meals need to require environmental license from the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency under the provision of Pakistan biosafety rule.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS always playing its lead role as a think tank/trouble-shooter to solve livestock, poultry and dairy industries issues. He said Pakistan is a well-populated country and price of quality meat available on very much high rate due to unavailability of soybean now a days and we already facing stunting and malnutrition issues here in Pakistan. He said UVAS provide a best platform to poultry stakeholders/professionals where they can share their issues/constraints and recommendations to address poultry sector issues.

While addressing the audience, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha urged stakeholders to start social media campaign for creating awareness among general public regarding the adoption of genetically modification organisms techniques for enhancing crops production which is using all over the world and never injurious for human health. He also stressed to constitute a biosafety committee for the assistance of poultry industry to fulfill requirement for attaining license to restart the import of soybean in Pakistan.

All the stakeholders recommended to instantly lifting ban on the import of soybean in Pakistan. They supported the adaptation of GMO`s techniques for the enhancing of crops production. They requested the Government of Pakistan to make farmers friendly policies to boost poultry sector. They recommended to start media campaign to curb misconception associated with GMO’s.

President Pakistan Medical Council Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami was the guest of honour while many stakeholders from public and private sectors across Punjab (Pakistan Poultry Association, Buffalo Research Institute, Agriculture Department), academicians, researchers and officials from Livestock Department participated in meeting.

Secretary Livestock M Masood Anwar visits UVAS

Lahore, February 09, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) Muhammad Masood Anwar paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad on Thursday at City Campus.

Meanwhile Secretary Livestock chaired a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and discussed livestock disease related issues like prevention of lumpy skin, disease surveillance system, traceability and alternatives of poultry feed. He urged on the importance of modern technology like Nanotechnology for the treatment of livestock animals in the modern period. He praised UVAS quality of education and research especially its treatment and disease diagnosis facilities for the benefit of livestock farming community. He also lauded UVAS state of the art laboratories facilities for the imparting of practical work to students and maximum livestock farming community getting benefits from the labs of UVAS, he added.

Earlier, the Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed the Secretary Livestock on UVAS history, campuses, labs, academic, research and development projects, national and international collaborations, industry linkages, UVAS flood relief campaign 2022, ongoing research projects etc. He also showed a UVAS video documentary to Secretary Livestock give an overview of UVAS research, development interventions and student strength along with national and international collaboration.

Later Secretary Livestock along with Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad visited various department of City Campus including Veterinary Academy, Department of Meat Science and Technology, Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory, Pet Center, Quality Operation Laboratory, Out Door Hospital and Sports Complex where all the heads of these departments briefed Secretary Livestock regarding the role and functioning of these departments for the help of community. While visiting UVAS City Campus, Secretary Livestock planted a sapling outside Rest House for the promotion of greenery.

A large number of senior faculty members of the UVAS including Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Principal Officer City Campus Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Livestock Department officials Additional Secretary Planning Khalid Mahmood Chauhdary, Additional Secretary Admin Muhammad Tanveer Majid, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Asif Suleman Sahi and UVAS talented students who recently passed North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and researcher attended the meeting. At the end of the meeting VC Dr Nasim Ahmad presented a souvenir to Secretary Livestock.

UVAS actively participates in International Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference and Expo 2023 

Lahore, February 08, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore is actively participating in the two-days International Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference and Expo 2023 arranged by Punjab University in the local hotel of Lahore.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad also attended the inaugural ceremony while Vice-Chancellor University of Education Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha was the chief guest of the conference, Vice-Chancellor University of Baltistan, Skardu Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Director General Fisheries Punjab Dr Sikander Hayyat, Organizing Secretary of Conference Prof Dr Noor Khan and a large number of fish farmers, representatives from fish feed industries, faculty members and students, officials from Fisheries Department and researchers from across the world were present physically and virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that fisheries sector has great potential in Pakistan and it also has many more opportunities for the investment. He said conference has provided an effective platform to national and international scientists, experts and stakeholders to gather under the same roof to share their experiences and innovative scientific knowledge in the field of Fisheries and Aquaculture. He hoped that the conference will definitely add to scientific knowledge for the benefit of fish farming community, fish feed industry and professionals and such innovative knowledge also to be very beneficial for the making of future policy for the uplift of fisheries and aquaculture sector in Pakistan.

While addressing the audience, Prof Dr Nasim said that fish is a cheap source of getting protein. UVAS established fish hatchery and fish processing unit for imparting practical knowledge to students which is the need of time. He said such conference is very necessary for shearing innovative knowledge and skills especially for enhancing networking with national and international linkages.

He said UVAS focusing on creating trained graduates who performing their services as human resource to boost fisheries, poultry, food, dairy and pharmaceutical industry industries and playing their lead role for providing healthy safety food as well. He advised the organizers to constitute different groups related to fish marketing, value edition, fish disease control, feed production and challenges of feed cost for preparing recommendations which would be key way to prepare road map for future to boost fisheries and aquaculture sector in Pakistan. He urged to promote fish eating culture in the whole year instead of in the winter season.

Later Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated Fisheries and Aquaculture Expo, where the numbers of stall were set up by different fish feed industries. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad along with Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and other dignitaries of conference visited different stalls of the conference and talked to representatives of industries. They also saw the poster presentation on the occasion.

Kashmir Solidarity Day observed at all campuses of UVAS

Lahore, February 06, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore and its all campuses observed Kashmir Solidarity Day in befitting manner to express solidarity with people of occupied Kashmir on Monday. Various activities including a walk, a seminar, prayer for the martyrs/for peace and debate were arranged to express solidarity with Kashmiri peoples.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk in city campus while a number of students from different departments of UVAS, faculty members and administrative staff participated. The participants of the walk were waving flags of Pakistan and Kashmir. The walk starting from VC office and culminate at in front of Administration block lawn after took the round of city campus. The day was observed to highlight the sufferings of Kashmiri peoples and to commemorate solidarity with Kashmir movement.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Nasim Ahmed said that Kashmiri people have been facing brutality by the Indian army for the last 75 years. He also paid homage to Kashmiri martyrs. He said sacrifices of martyrs will not go waste and it must bring revolution. He condemned the illegal deployment of a large number of Indian army in Kashmir to suppress Kashmiris independence movement. We stand with Kashmiri people and soon “Kashmir will become Pakistan,” he added.

UVAS ink MoU with Alltech Pakistan working together for planet of plenty-climate change, food security and sustainability 

Lahore, February 03, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Alltech Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding with Alltech Pakistan working together for planet of plenty-climate change, food security and sustainability.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI), Chairman Department of Animal Nutrition Associate Prof Dr Naveed ul Haq from UVAS and Chief Executive Officer Dr Shahzad Naveed Jadoon and Marketing Manager Obaid-ur-Rehman from Alltech Pakistan signed the MoU in a ceremony held at City Campus. Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Muhammad Azam, UVAS faculty members and officials from Alltech Pakistan were present in the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that this cooperation will be very beneficial for both organizations especially for learning/shearing each other experience, innovative knowledge, new ideas and practical skills. He urged self-reliance and enhancement of milk and meat production is key way to solve financial crises in Pakistan. He acknowledged the role of Alltech Pakistan for providing technical and financial assistance to UVAS.

Dr Shahzad Naveed Jadoon said that agriculture is a future and working together for planet of plenty is the only way forward. Under the MoU, both the parties will provide academic and administrative support where required. They will develop research proposals as well as will conduct joint research and development projects and Alltech Pakistan will provide opportunities for the students regarding internships.

Both parties will jointly arrange joint conferences, trainings workshops, symposia and seminars. Information related to mutual workshops, symposia and conferences will be shared with students and faculty and intellectual property developed during joint activity will also be owned by both organizations etc.
