UVAS sign MoU with Govt College University Lahore for enhancing academic and research cooperation

Lahore, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding with Government Collage University Lahore (GCU) for enhancing academic and research cooperation in the fields of wildlife management, captive breeding of animals, microbiology and biotechnology, fisheries and aquaculture, museology, chiropteran biology and sericulture and Insect biology.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) and Vice-Chancellor Government Collage University Lahore Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi (TI) signed a MoU in a ceremony held at City Campus. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi said under this MoU we will establish strong collaboration and linkages between UVAS and GCU Lahore to enhance quality of education and research. He showed his keen interest to start joint degree program with UVAS and he also mentioned his desire to convert surrounding areas of UVAS and GCU Lahore into university town in future. He urged to establish collaboration with UVAS in the curriculum development under the umbrella of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and willingness to conduct joint extra-curricular activities of both institutions students` societies for their grooming. He acknowledged competencies of UVAS faculty and state of the art facilities and said this cooperation would be very beneficial for both institutions.

Prof Dr Nasim said that such agreement will be very useful for sharing innovative knowledge and learning each other experiences. He urged to start joint work on the topic of animal genetics and conservation. Earlier, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed GCU delegation on the UVAS academic, research, extension, advisory services, training programme, achievements in curricular and extra-curricular activities, student strength and national and international collaboration etc. Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Muhammad Azam, Chairman Department of Wildlife and Ecology Dr Arshad Javid, Chairman Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman and number of UVAS faculty members and officials from GCU were present in the ceremony.

Under the MoU, both institutions shall exchange their students and faculty members for research purpose and they shall explore possibilities of conducting joint research projects on a collaborative basis to promote the image of both institutions as disseminators of state-of-the-art knowledge in relevant research fields. They shall make their laboratories and research facilities accessible to faculty and students. Both institutions will arrange joint conferences, workshops, seminars and similar activities on a regular basis and they also will share teaching materials, lecture notes, case studies, research reports, working papers, audio-visual materials and software among the faculty of both universities. Both parties will explore feasibility of working together in curriculum development and other projects to be mutually beneficial and viable for both Institutions etc.

Weeklong 10th Spring Festival 2023 concludes at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences

Lahore, March 24, 2023 (PPI-OT): 10th Weeklong Spring Festival 2023 of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore concluded with fun fair, music and drama competitions. Vice-Chancellor Multan University of Science and Technology/Former Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science UVAS Prof Dr Sarwar Khan presided over the concluding ceremony in the evening and distributed trophies among overall winners of the spring festival contests while Prof Dr Abdullah Arijo from Sindh Agriculture Tandojam University, Principal Officer Students Affairs Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor (Acting) Dr Muhammad Oneeb, Prof. Dr Kamran Ashraf and a large number of faculty members and students from different departments of UVAS were present.

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) won overall first position, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) got second and Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBBT) stood on third position. Drama, quiz, naat-qiraat, azaan, poster/model exhibition, floral decoration, music, photography, short film, bait bazi, Urdu and English poetry, stand-up comedy and egg fiesta, scouts contest and fun fair etc. competitions featured in the week-long spring festival 2023.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the spring festival, Prof Dr Sarwar Khan appreciated the students’ enthusiastic participation in the festival contests. He said that such activities are necessary for students’ character building and social training.

World Forest and Water Day observes at UVAS

Lahore, March 21, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Senior Tutor office, Green Youth Movement Club (GYM) and amp; Society for Conservation of Environment and Nature (SCEN) arranged a awareness seminar and a canvas art competition to mark World Forest and Water Day to spread awareness among public about water conservation with the theme of “save blue-live green” here at City Campus Lahore.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired concluding session of the seminar and distributed certificates among the canvas art contest winner while Chairman Department of Environmental Sciences Dr Saif-ur-Rehman Kashif, Senior Tutor Dr Ali Raza Awan, Ms Saman Sana and a number of faculty members and students were present.

In the seminar Director Provincial Disaster Management Authority Mr Hameed Ullah Malik, Director Irrigation Department Mr Zakir Hassan Sial and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Water Care Services Lahore Mr Khurram were the guest speakers.

Daylong Annual book fair held at UVAS

Lahore, March 21, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Central Library of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged a daylong annual book fair 2023 in the City Campus Lahore on Tuesday. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad inaugurated book fair while Librarian Muhammad Aslam, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Prof Dr Asim Aslam, Ms Abeeda Zia and a large number of students, faculty members and book sellers were present on the occasion.

Total 12 stalls were set up at the fair and book sellers and publishers displayed a variety of books including livestock, literature, information technology, social science and also books stock on relevant fields of veterinary sciences like anatomy and amp; histology, animal nutrition, clinical medicine and surgery, dairy technology, public health, fisheries aquaculture, food sciences human nutrition, livestock production, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, poultry production, wildlife and ecology, biochemistry biotechnology, pharmaceutical science, leather and fiber technology, statistics and amp; computer science, environmental science and policy management etc. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad visited many stalls and talked to book sellers and students about the significance of book reading.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed said that book fair was aimed to provide a platform to promote book reading habit among students, researchers and teachers. He urged to promote such activities not only in city campus rather in other campuses of UVAS.

He said books didn’t lose their significance even in the age of information and communication technologies. During visit a student name Suleman Shakoor presented his book Raqs-e-Ishaq to VC Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed. Thousands of books are displayed in the fair and students are taking keen interest in reading of books related to their degrees while a number of faculty member and students from various departments visited the book fair.

UVAS Alumni Association holds 13th annual reunion in befitting manners

Lahore, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Alumni Association of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore arranged its 13th annual reunion here at City Campus Lahore. Founder Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Manzoor Qureshi presided over the reunion function while former Vice-Chancellors Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz and Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha were the guests of honours and a large number of alumni from abroad, across Pakistan and officers from the Livestock Department participated.

Various activities like special prayers for the deceased alumni members, sports competitions (rifle shooting, rowing), stage performances (singing, derwaish raqs, dhamaal, cultural walk), fireworks, funny questions and answers featured the event. Renowned comedian Jawad Waseem also performed and entertained the participants with his stand-up comedy. Speaking on the occasion, founder Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Manzoor Qureshi said that UVAS is a historic institution where students are getting education from all over the Pakistan and even from different parts of world. He said it is direly needed to share across Pakistan the cultural activities performed by UVAS students for national integration. He said I am glad to see the day by day progress of UVAS through its quality of education and research to solve livestock issues emerging challenges including deadly diseases and plays its key role in the uplift of livestock sector and national economy.

In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad welcomed the participants and spoke about UVAS flood relief activities in the worst flood affected areas in different provinces of (South Punjab, Sindh, KP and Baluchistan) during flood 2022. He called for more donations from UVAS alumni for providing livestock under the initiative “Economic revival of flood affected families”. He said UVAS added a new course “Livestock Emergency and Disaster Management” to DVM curriculum. At the end of event, Prof Manzoor along with Prof Nasim and other dignitaries distributed prizes and gifts among the winners of rifle shooting and rowing competitions.

UVAS inks MoU with Govt College Women University Sialkot for academic and research cooperation

Lahore, March 18, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding with Government Collage Woman University Sialkot for enhancing academic and research cooperation. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) and Director Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Dr Ferhan Jamil from UVAS while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar and Convener External Linkages Dr Asma Waheed Qureshi from (GCWUS) signed a MoU in a ceremony held at City Campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim said that UVAS is first university among public sector universities who attained license from DRAP for the vaccine production against foot and mouth (FMD) deadly disease of livestock. He also mentioned UVAS is also working on patent filing of his researcher’s work. Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar sought collaboration with UVAS in joint research project, utilizing resources like laboratories and exploring opportunities for joint research.

Under the MoU, both institutions will develop research proposals as well as will conduct joint research and development projects and provide opportunities for the students regarding internships, mutual access to facilities for the purposes of fundamental, academic research and other academic activities. The information related to mutual workshops, symposia and conferences will be shared with students and faculty of both institutions and intellectual property developed during joint activity will be jointly owned by both institutions etc.
