5-day training course on ‘Learning Technologies of Pasteurized and Flavoured Milk’ concludes at UVAS 

Lahore, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) organised a five days training course on ‘Learning Technologies of Pasteurized and Flavoured Milk’ under the project ‘Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain’ here at City Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the concluding ceremony of training course and distributed certificates among participants while Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid and 18 participants (livestock officers, dairy professionals and farmers) from public and private sector dairy industry were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said development of dairy sector is key way to curb malnutrition and stunting growth (children) issues in Pakistan. He also said that it is our responsibility to play lead role as a master trainer to train other professionals and spread the latest knowledge regarding pasteurize, value addition and processing among other professionals for the uplift of dairy sector.

2-Days National Workshop on ‘Anaesthesia in Pet Animal Practice’ complete at UVAS

Lahore, December 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged two-days National Workshop on ‘Anaesthesia in Pet Animal Practice’ at UVAS Veterinary Academy here on Wednesday in UVAS Veterinary Academy.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the inaugural session of the workshop while Chief Executive Officer Sanam Pharma Mr Shafique Ahmad Sheikh Chaired the concluding ceremony and presented shields among the resource persons, sponsors, organizers and distributed certificates to the participants while Prof Dr Asim Khalid Mehmood, Dr Uzma Fareed Durrani, Dr Zia ullah Mughal and a number of participants from different institutions from all over the country were present.

During two-day workshop experts delivered their lectures on the topic of physiological aspects of anaesthesia, pre anaesthesia assessment of patients, gas anaesthesia, birds and rabbit anaesthesia, post anaesthesia and surgery, nutritional management in companion animal, local anaesthesia, factor affecting the anaesthesia, hands-on training of gas anaesthesia machine and it’s working and hands-on training on general hands-on anaesthesia in birds and rabbit etc. The aim of the workshop was to impart practical knowledge regarding latest anaesthesia techniques in the field of veterinary anaesthesia to the small animal practitioner.

UVAS Student Mr Muhammad Umar Javed conferred for ‘Prime Minister Flood Heroes Award’ 

Lahore, December 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad along with Mr Muhammad Umar Javed a representative of UVAS Flood Relief volunteer team attended a ceremony organized by the Milkar organization in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan and Primer Minister Youth Program at Prime Minister Office Islamabad to acknowledge the efforts of universities for Flood Relief Campaigns 2022.

It is great honour that UVAS stood among the top 50 selected Higher Education institutions of Pakistan due to leading role in provision of extraordinary veterinary and community welfare activities in the worst flood affected areas of Pakistan in 2022.

During ceremony, in recognition of UVAS flood relief activities and efforts a “Prime Minister Flood Heroes Award” conferred to Mr Muhammad Umar Javed and award conferred by Federal Minister for planning and development Mr Ahsan Iqbal on behalf of Prime Minister of Pakistan while Chairman HEC Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Director Milkar organization Hadi Saif, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Shaza Fatima Khawaja and a large number of superior authority/faculty and students from different institutions of Pakistan were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim appreciate and acknowledge the untiring efforts of Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz and all staff member of UVAS who actively participated in various activities and played their extra-ordinary role to made UVAS Flood Relief Campaign successful.

Prof Dr Muquarrab Ahmed Qureshi from National Institute of Food and Agriculture USDA visits UVAS

Lahore, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):A Renowned professor of Immunology Dr Muquarrab Ahmed Qureshi member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service/Deputy Director of the Institute of Youth, Family and Community in United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) along with Former Pakistan Hockey Team Captain and Olympian Gold Medallist Prof Dr Tariq Aziz Khawaja and Former UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad here on Thursday in City Campus.

Meanwhile a detailed meeting was held with senior faculty members of UVAS on latest trends of teaching, problem oriented research methods and using of modern technologies for enhancing the quality of teaching, research and extension.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired meeting while Dr Muquarrab Ahmed Qureshi highlighted the history and objectives of extension training/outreach programme to address rural community issues by utilizing knowledge and skills. He talked on various aspects related to non-cognitive skills, hands-on training, foundation and applied science, sustainable act systems, technology transfer and relevance work related to community for their betterment etc. Dr Muquarrab acknowledged the role of UVAS for imparting latest knowledge and practical skills to students and its role for the betterment of livestock farming community especially in the flood affected areas of Pakistan to save their animals.

He also shared his past experiences with participants of meeting and success stories. Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani mentioned about the 24/7 extension and civic engagement programme of UVAS. She said under this programme we involved university youth in social integrated outreach program of UVAS and completed four projects that are sustainable till now at Pattoki.

Earlier Prof Nasim Ahmad spoke about the biography of Dr Muquarrab and his vital role and contribution being a veterinarian, as a researcher as well as scientist in different national and international organizations. He also spoke about the history of UVAS, various degree programmes, research, training and services of UVAS. Later, Dr Muquarrab visited various departments of UVAS including BSL-3 Lab, Veterinary Academy, Meat Processing Unit and Pet Centre etc.

UVAS organised 1st Women Leadership Program 

Lahore, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged 1st UVAS Women Leadership Program in connection with Women Empowerment through Women Involvement in Learning and Leadership (WE-WILL) here at City Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the inaugural session of the programme while Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Chairperson Department of Anatomy and Histology Prof Dr Hafsa Zaneb, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani and many other senior female faculty and administration staff members from different campuses of UVAS were present.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that female strength is increasing rapidly in faculty and administration of UVAS last two decades and they performing their duties with full of dedication. He said that women are provided equal rights at UVAS and they are always encouraged to equally participate in university activities. He said Government of Punjab developed seven consortiums and in which woman empowerment consortium is also added. He acknowledged the role of Prof Dr Hafsa Zaneb for taken this initiative.

Earlier, Prof Dr Hafsa Zaneb spoke about the aim and objectives of this programme. She said various issues/aspects related to leadership, governance, gender issues in academia, equity, sexual harassment, networking, career trajectories and financial management will be discuss and many well-known professors/experts from national and international institutions will be the resource person. She said participants will have an opportunity to learn from experiences of accomplished women leaders and advocates of women leadership from within and outside Pakistan.
