Vice-Chancellor inaugurates Spring Plantation Drive 2023 at Turbat University

Turbat, March 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Vice-Chancellor, University of Turbat (UoT), Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad inaugurated the spring plantation drive by planting a tree at the university’s main campus here on 29th March 2023. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that his administration is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of safeguarding the natural environment and enhancing the beautification of the campus by increasing the green areas of the campus. He urged the university employees and students for providing regular care of the planted trees for a better future. Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad appreciated the efforts of UoT’s Planning and Development Department and Plantation and Garden Office for launching a green revenue project for the university.

The event was organized by the Office of Plantation and Gardening of the University. Besides, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Ahmed and Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, deans, directors, heads of different departments, faculty members, administrative staff, and students also participated in the event and planted the saplings at the different sites of the university. Elaborating on the purpose of the plantation drive, Shah Hussain, In-charge Office of Plantation and Garden said that the drive is aimed at achieving its target of planting more than 2500 trees at the university campus, which include mango, guava, and 1100 lemon trees as part of revenue-generating efforts for the university. In order to add an aesthetic look to the varsity, ornamental trees like Jacaranda, yellow and pink tabebuia, cassia fistula, Tecoma and Lagerstroemia would also be planted at the campus.

The first meeting of Board of Studies of BS Urdu Program

Turbat, March 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): The first meeting of the Board of Studies (BoS) of the BS Urdu Program, University of Turbat (UoT) was held on 21st March 2023 in the video conference room of UoT under the chairmanship of Prof. (Associate) Dr. Tahir Hakeem, Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC). Dr. Qandeel Badar, HoD, Department of Urdu, SBK Women’s University, Quetta and Ms. Anila Baber, Lecturer, Department of Urdu, SBK Women’s University, Quetta participated in the meeting as subject expert members of the BoS. Other members include Dr. Adnan Riaz, Professor (Assistant), Department of English, UoT; Mr. Ghulab Ahmed, Professor (Assistant) Atta Shad Degree College Turbat; Mr. Shoaib Ahmed, Lecturer, Atta Shad Degree College Turbat; Ms. Zubeda Ghulam Jan Omrani, Lecturer, Govt. Girls Degree College Turbat; and Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director QEC also attended the meeting. The Board approved the objectives of the BS Urdu program, its degree title, minimum requirements, course codes, and compulsory, general, core, major, and optional courses.

The members appreciated the efforts of UOT in preparing the syllabus as per HEC guidelines and also offered constructive suggestions for further improvement of the syllabus. In the closing remarks, the Convenor of the Board, Dr. Tahir Hakeem thanked the meeting participants for their active participation and valuable suggestions.

Viva Voce of MPhil scholars held at Turbat University

Turbat, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Mr. Kiya Hashum and Ms. Murwarid, MPhil scholars, at the Department of Chemistry, defended their MPhil dissertation successfully on 16th March 2023. They have completed their research work under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Haroon, Assistant Professor, Chemistry Department. Dr. Kamran Tahir, Associate Professor, GOMAL University, Dera Ismail Khan, has participated as an external examiner of both scholars through the video link.

Ms. Zianab MPhil scholar, Department of Chemistry, defended her MPhil dissertation successfully on 17th March 2023. She has completed her research work under the supervision of Dr. Roohullah, Associate Professor, Chemistry Department. Dr. Hamidullah, Associate Professor, BUITEMS, has participated as an external examiner of the scholar through the video link.

Welcome program organized at Sociology Department of Turbat University

Turbat, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Dean of, the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Turbat (UoT), Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor has said that the University of Turbat is committed to providing quality education and facilities to its students to pursue their academic journey successfully. These views were expressed by him while addressing a welcome program organized by the senior students of the Department of Sociology at UoT on 15th March 2023 to welcome newcomers.

Dr. Abdul Saboor noted that students should maintain a healthy balance between academic and extracurricular activities during their studies at university. He congratulated the students on securing admission to the Department of Sociology of the university. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Yaseen, Head of the Sociology Department explained the importance and scope of sociology in the contemporary world.

The Students presented various segments of shows including song, poetry, drama, and tableau which reflected the message of education and the socio-cultural landscape of Baloch Society. Faculty member Mr. Nadil Shah talked about the university’s facilities, academic programs, resources, and scholarships available at the university for students. He appreciated the efforts of organizers and thanked the Dean of Faculty, Head of Department, faculty members, and students for their support and enthusiasm in organizing the fresher’s fayre 2023.

He assured the students that they would get guidance and support from the teaching and administrative staff of the university at each and every step of their academic career at university. The event helped the fresh students feel comfortable and motivated to pursue their academic journey at Turbat University.

Panel discussion on “Reconciliation Process in Balochistan” held at Turbat University

Turbat, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):A panel discussion on “Reconciliation Process in Balochistan: Problems, Challenges, and Way Forward” was held at the University of Turbat (UoT) on 17th March 2023. The program was organized by the Department of Political Science. The aim of the panel discussion was to engage academia and youth in the solution of longstanding problems and challenges in Balochistan.

Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, former Dean of Social Sciences and Director of the School of Politics and IT, Quaid Azam University, Islamabad, Ms. Saba Aslam, Founder and Executive Director, Islamabad Institute of Conflict Resolution, and Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean, Faculty of Legal Education, UoT participated in the discussion as panellists, while the program was moderated by Mr. Muzaffir Hussain, Assistant Professor of Political Science Department and Director Student Affairs, UoT.

The panellists emphasized that the problems in Balochistan could only be addressed through approaching the people and true leadership of Balochistan for debate and dialogue. They stressed the importance of unity among different ethnic communities in Pakistan and advocated for honesty, moral values, and acceptance of diversity and differences in opinion in the country. The role of youth, academia, politicians, media, civil society, provincial government, the federal government, and different stakeholders in the reconciliation process was talked over during the panel discussion and question-answer session with the faculty members and students.

The panellists noted that the chronic trust deficit at government and societal levels is the major obstacle towards the reconciliation process and called for immediate confidence-building measures for the resolution of problems in Balochistan. They argued that the reconciliation process cannot be result-oriented without resolving the root causes of backwardness, perception of deprivation, exploitation, and marginalization in Balochistan. They emphasized that the legitimate political and economic rights of the people of Balochistan should be brought at par with the rest of the county for perpetual peace and progress of the province.

Mir Asghar Rind, a former provincial minister and politician from Balochistan, also highlighted different issues of Balochistan before the panellists. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat welcomed the guest speakers and on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of UoT Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, he expressed gratitude to the guests and participants for attending the academic discussion on the reconciliation process in Balochistan. Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences highlighted some ways forward for making the reconciliation process successful in Balochistan. The program was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, notables, civil society, the business community, and students in large numbers.

Counselling, guidance session on campus life held at Turbat University

Turbat, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Upon the special directives of Turbat University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, the Directorate of Student Affairs has conducted a series of counselling, guidance, and orientation sessions on different themes including semester rules, scholarship programs, sports and extracurricular activities, academic rules, plagiarism policy, hostel rules, students discipline rules and campus life. According to Director of Student Affairs, Muzaffar Hussain, the sessions were aimed at providing valuable awareness and support to the students in adjusting to the new academic environment of the university and providing them with the tools necessary for success in their academic journey.

The students of BS 1st semester from different departments of the university participated in the orientation sessions held on different days at UoT. The resource persons of different sessions including, Dr. Waseem Barkat, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), Mumtaz Baloch, Hostel Provost, Abdul Jabbar, In-charge Financial Aid Office, Mazhar Gichki, In-charge Sports, Mohammad Younus, Hostel Warden and Mr. Mehrab Saleem, Campus Coordinator briefed the students regarding rules, regulations and working mechanism of their respective section and facilities available for the students at university. They encouraged the students to adopt effective study habits and to actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities.

Dr. Riaz Ahmed informed the participants of the session regarding various initiatives taken by QEC to improve the academic standards of the University. He also encouraged the students to provide feedback to the university to help in further improving the academic standards continually.

The orientation sessions were well-received by the students for comprehensive and informative presentations by the resource persons. They termed the sessions enlightening and beneficial for their academic and personal growth. They also expressed their gratitude towards the university administration, the Directorate of Student Affairs, and the resource persons for organizing useful orientation sessions for them.
