Oath Taking Ceremony of the Proctorial Board of the University of Chitral 

Chitral, April 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The oath taking ceremony of the Proctorial Board of the University of Chitral took place in the main hall of the University of Chitral. Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah participated in the Oath taking ceremony. In his address, he said that it is the duty of the Proctorial board to maintain discipline in the University. Student Proctors should maintain discipline among the students. Mr. Fathul Bari, the Chief Proctor of the University of Chitral held a separate meeting with Proctorial Board and explained the working mechanism of the Proctorial Board to the newly elected members.

Pakistan Day 23rd March was celebrated in the University of Chitral 

Chitral, March 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Day 23rd March 2022 was celebrated in the University of Chitral. In this connection, a program was organized by the Directorate of student Societies, the University of Chitral. The Chief Guest of the program was Prof. Dr. Tajudin, Provost University of Chitral. Speaking on the occasion he said that the idea for the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent was accepted on this day in the form of the Lahore Resolution.

A speech and Quiz competition was also arranged by the Directorate of student societies in which large number of students participated. At the end of the program trophies and certificates were distributed among the students.

International Women’s Day celebrated in the University of Chitral 

Chitral, March 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Urdu and Department of Sociology under the supervision of the Directorate of ORIC celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2022 in the University of Chitral. The program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The Chief Guest of the program was District Police Officer, Sonia Shamroz. The Guest of Honour of the program was Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Professor Dr. Zahir Shah.

The Vice-Chancellor said that International Women’s Day is celebrated globally to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The first women’s day was observed in the United States on 28th February 1909 in honour of working women. He said that Islam recognized the rights of women 1400 years ago. He urged young women to follow the guidelines of Islam and play a positive role in society.

Chief Guest of the program, Sonia Shamroz, said that there are limited professions for women. Women should focus on their careers and make themselves, their families, and their parents feel proud. She advised the young women to stay away from the misuse of mobile phones and social media and work hard for the better future of the coming generation.

At the end of the program, the District Police Officer held a separate session with the female students to hear their problems. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the guest for her participation and presented Books to the Chief Guest.

University of Chitral participated in the HEC Intervarsity football Championship 2022 

Chitral, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):In the first match in Zone-C (Men) 2021-22 organized by Ripahah International University Islamabad, the University of Chitral beat UET Taxila through penalty kicks. The second match was played against COMSAT University Islamabad and after a nail-biting contest, the University of Chitral lost on running penalties.

With great discipline and sportsman spirit, the team won the hearts of all participating teams, officials, and spectators. The Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral encouraged the players and team management and announced different sports activities this year including Sports Week and Sports Galla wherein players will be selected and added to the University squad for future events.

Second meeting of the syndicate of University of Chitral successfully held 

Chitral, February 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Second meeting of the syndicate of University of Chitral successfully held. Several decisions taken including increase in salaries of employees and recommendation for opening four new disciplines. The second meeting of the Syndicate of University of Chitral was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah on 10-11 February 2022 which was attended by all active members.

The Syndicate took decision on several recommendations of the F and PC including grant of 10% Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2021, increase in House Rent Allowance, grant of 20% Teaching Allowance, 20% Special Allowance 2021, grant of DRA to employees in BPS-07 to 16 at the rate of Rs.3500/per month, increase in Integrated Allowance, Washing Allowance and Dress Allowance to the employees in BPS-01 to 06, enhancement of minimum wage-rate to Rs.21000/- per month and enhancement of remuneration to the visiting faculty members.

However, these increases will be subject to release of the already approved fund by the Government. The Press release maintains that the annual budget of the University of Chitral for the Financial Year 2021-22 was approved by the Government in June last year, however, no releases against the approved budget have been made so far.

The Syndicate recommended the proposed creation of faculty, administrative and support staff positions to the Senate for approval, formed Selection Committee and Selection Board for hiring of regular employees, and approved quota policy for employment in lines with the Government policies. The house recommended opening of four new departments including Department of Islamiat and Religious Studies, Departments of Chemistry, Physics and Agriculture to the Senate.

The Syndicate empowered and authorized the Vice Chancellor for grant of Study Leave to two faculty members and constituted a committee for regularization case of several employees. The Syndicate approved several recommendations of the Academic Council including Boards of Studies recommendations for BS and MA/MSc programs, degree format, code of conduct for the students and harassment policy, to mention a few.

Seminar on Integrity, Sustainability and Future Prospective of Olive in Pakistan 

Chitral, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Directorate of ORIC University of Chitral organized a one-day National seminar with the theme “INTEGRITY, SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE PROSPECTIVE OF OLIVE IN PAKISTAN” in collaboration with Pakistan oilseed Department. Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral was Chief Guest of the program. Dr. Roman, Deputy Director ORIC was also present on the occasion.

After recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, Dr. Khair Muhammad, Managing Director, Pakistan Oilseed Department welcomed the guests. He said that Olive plantation is growing at a fast pace in Pakistan. Environmental conditions in Pakistan are favourable for Olive plantation. Chitral is one of the few districts in KP which has the potential to become a hub of olive plantation. He also announced internship program for Botany students of the University of Chitral in Pakistan Oilseed Department.

Eminent Scientists from different provinces of Pakistan presented their research papers on Olive plantation in Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Ramzan Anser, Agronomist, Centre of Excellence for Olive Research and Training Barani Agriculture Research institute Chakwal presented his research paper on integrated Olive promotion and value chain development model in Pakistan. He said that his department is working for the promotion and value chain development of Olive in Pakistan.

A detailed presentation was given by Mr. Inam Ul Haq, Project Incharge Balochistan component on the current scenario of Olive cultivation in Baluchistan province. Dr. Syed Asghar, Project Incharge ARI Tarnab Peshawar, shared history and current status of olive cultivation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the audience. He mentioned that 30 acres of land has also been cultivated to Olive in Chitral.

Dr. Muhammad Azhar Iqbal, Horticulturist, Centre of Excellence for Olive Research and Training Barani Agriculture Research Institute Chakwal presented his paper on successful Olive cultivation in relation to varietal selection and production technology in Pothwar Agro-climatic conditions of Pakistan.

Mr. Nadeem Sadiq, Director General, Balochistan Agriculture Research Institute presented his research paper on Sustainability and future prospects of Olive cultivation in Balochistan. Dr. Azmat Ali Awan, Deputy National Project Director Pakistan Oilseed Department gave a detailed presentation on Olive sector in Pakistan. Students, faculty members, representatives from forest department, Agriculture Research Station Chitral, Agriculture Extension Department Chitral, and Soil Conservation Department Chitral also participated in the conference.

In his concluding remarks, Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah said that he wants to see the barren land of Chitral covered with Olive plants. He said that Chitral environment is very conducive for olive cultivation. Soil conditions in Chitral are also favourable for olive plantation. He further said the Olive oil is useful for treatment of various diseases like cancer and heart. At the end of the program, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the guests for their participation and precious time. He also distributed shields and certificates among the participants. The Vice-Chancellor announced to allocated ten acres of Land for Olive plantation and for establishment of Botanical Garden with the support of Oilseed Department.
