Block Chain Seminar 

Lahore, February 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Central Punjab organized an international seminar for its faculty and students on Block Chain Technologies in collaboration with WorldCall Telecom Ltd, World Mobile Group (WMG) from United Kingdom and Immunity Life from Australia.

In his inaugural address, UCP Pro Rector, Dr Nassar Ikram thanked WorldCall Telecom and WMG for sponsoring the initiative for capacity building of UCP faculty and students in Block Chain technologies and emphasized that it was really important to adopt new technologies for the betterment of national economy and flourishing business using digital technologies. He also appreciated the commitment of all the panelist for delivering this seminar despite the time zone differences.

Leading the panel discussions, Mr Babar Ali Syed, Chief Executive of WorldCall Telecom and a veteran of Pakistan Telecom industry shared his insights on how this technology would bring about revolutionary changes. He also shared some statistics from around the world to signify how this technology is impacting while being adopted.

Mr Charles Barnett from World Mobile Group gave introduction of the organization and shared about various projects that they are delivering in improving the digital connectivity all over the world using Block Chain and other digital technologies. Mr Guy Newing, Chief Executive of Immunity Life Australia shared the transformation journey of healthcare system that has been secured using Block Chain Technologies.

Mr Zaid Munir, Assistant Professor from UCP Faculty of IT talked about the development of applications that would eventually result in benefiting the businesses in the digital paradigm using Block Chain. Panel also answered the questions from the audience. Mr Zubair Anwar, Head Centre for Professional Excellence hosted and moderated the seminar.

Besides online international delegates, Directors, CTO, CFO, CIO and other officials from World Call attended this seminar. Provost, Deans, Directors, HODs, senior members from Faculty of Management Sciences, Information Technology, Law and students from UCP also participated.

UCP, WTL and WMG collaborate to establish Blockchain Centre of Excellence in Pakistan 

Lahore, February 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Central Punjab along with the WorldCall Telecom Ltd and World Mobile Group (UK) are establishing a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence in Block Chain Technology. A trilateral MOU has been signed amongst the three organizations. Under the program, World Mobile (WMG) and partners will provide UCP access to certifications and accreditations in blockchain technologies.

This significant development has been published on international telecom and technologies forums. Charles Barnett, Chief Business Officer and Co-founder of World Mobile Group stated, “Our mission is to connect the unconnected and we are utilizing blockchain technology to do this. Trust, digital ID, self-data governance are all made possible with blockchain and it should be a global interest to nurture and develop talent in this field.”

Dr. Nassar Ikram, UCP Pro Rector shared that UCP has been gearing up to introduce modern technologies in their academic and professional education programs and the partnership of WTL and WMG would ensure that the full potential of blockchain as a technology platform is unlocked to meet the requirements in technical and social domains.

Chief Executive of WorldCall Telecom, Mr Babar Ali Syed, a firm believer and promoter of blockchain, shared that he stands committed towards making Pakistan a blockchain technology powerhouse on global stage. Trained human resource coming out of these institutions would be instrumental in achieving this goal.

MOU with Dilawar Hussain Foundation 

Lahore, February 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Central Punjab, keeping in view the importance of University-Industry linkages, has signed an MOU with Dilawar Hussain Foundation, a not-for-profit organization working to improve health and education conditions and poverty alleviation in Pakistan. This MoU was led by the Faculty of Life Sciences of UCP.

The signing ceremony was held on Jan, 20th 2022, at UCP. Pro-Rector UCP, Dr Nassar Ikram and CEO Dilawar Hussain Foundation/CCL Pharma, Mr Hassan Zubair Sheikh, signed the mutually agreed-upon document. The purpose of this collaboration between the two institutions is to work together in the health sector to carry out joint research projects and offer employment/ internship opportunities for fresh graduates of the Faculty of Life Sciences of UCP. Mr Hassan Zubair and Dr Afshan Mir, Co-Founder Dilawar Hussain Foundation, appreciated the efforts of UCP and shared their views about collaborating in different research projects with the university. Prof. Dr Nassar Ikram lauded the efforts of the Dean FOLS, FILO-FOLS, ORIC Directorate and Faculty members for this important MoU. He also directed the concerned to operationalize the MoU soon to impact society.

Guest Speaker Session – NEP of NICs

Lahore, February 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) have launched the largest technology incubation centres across Pakistan. These incubation centres are being opened in collaboration with several universities. Ms. Ambreen Khursheed (Senior Lecturer, UCP Business School) organized a guest speaker session for her students of the Entrepreneurial Finance course on 12th January 2022.

She invited Mr Khabeer Ul Tanwir Khan (Incubation Manager Lahore) and Mr. Omer Khan (Startup Growth Lead) to deliver a session on incubation centres’ role in facilitating young entrepreneurs. Mr. Khabeer Ul Tanwir Khan and Mr. Omer Khan represented the Lahore centre and gave a one-hour session to the Faculty of Management Studies students.

The incubation team explained to the students about the NEP NIC project and how it can benefit them towards achieving their goals of launching their startup ideas. They said National Expansion Plan aims to create a nationwide opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their business ideas into viable ventures. The program provides the following facilities and services for the inducted startups; Monthly stipend, Free workspace, Networking Opportunities, Mentorship, Business Development Guidance, Legal Assistance.

The students showed great interest and inquired about the program, the application, selection process and discussed their business ideas through a detailed question and answer session. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ambreen. The session was followed by a meeting with the Head of Department, Management, Entrepreneurship and HRM, Dr. Aqeel Ahmad and Ms. Ambreen where mutual interest and collaboration were discussed.

Google Developers Club – Devfest 2021 

Lahore, January 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):UCP Google Developers Club joined hands with Google Developers Group, Lahore (GDG Lahore) to organize Devfest 2021 at the University of Central Punjab. Devfest is one of the most significant Google technological events in Pakistan. This year, the University of Central Punjab has the honour to host this fantastic event with the esteemed Google Developers Group (GDG) Lahore.

Chairman Pakistan Software Houses Association Badar Khushnood delivered his keynote address on Overview of Growth in the IT Sector and eCommerce in Pakistan. Special thanks to Haris Nadeem and Sheharyar Naseer from Google Developers Group, Lahore, for bringing the most anticipated event of developers and tech enthusiasts UCP students focusing on community-led learning on Google technologies and exploring the next generation of diverse technologies.

MoU with Pakistan Institute of Development Economics 

Lahore, January 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Central Punjab, Lahore, and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 07-01-2022 in the Board Room of A-Building at UCP. On occasion, Dr. Nassar Ikram, Pro-Rector, UCP, and Prof. Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, VC, PIDE, were present to ink the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. The leadership of UCP and PIDE, while signing the MoU, expressed their strong desire to strengthen university-industry linkages and to establish the Center for Research in Economics and Public Policy at UCP. Both institutions also agreed upon organizing joint conferences, research projects, faculty/student exchange programs, internship and employment opportunities for UCP students.

The other members that attended the signing ceremony were Dr. Arsalan Tariq Rana, HOD, Department of Economics; Dr. Athar Mansoor, Director ORIC; Mr. Muhammad Farooq, Faculty Industry Liaison Officer-FASS and Ms. Ume Farwa, Lecturer Economics. UCP, as a leading university in the country, has recently embarked upon an empirical strategy to reduce the gap with the industry and enter into partnerships with various notable institutions. Moreover, PIDE has been working on Policymaking since 1957 and has a long and unique standing among policy.
