MoU with Dabistan-e-Iqbal 

Lahore, April 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):A delegation from Dabistan-e-Iqbal led by Mian Iqbal Salahuddin (Grand Son of Allama Muhammad Iqbal) visited the University of Central Punjab on April 19, 2022, for penning an MoU. Dr. Nassar Ikram (Pro-Rector UCP) chaired the event and appreciated the efforts of both organizations in joining hands.

The collaboration emerged as a need for cultivating awareness and spreading knowledge regarding the philosophy and message of Allama Muhammad Iqbal among the youth. The concepts established by him surely serve as a beacon for leadership, career progression, and making the world a better place. This MoU will be particularly helpful in developing an interactive mode of learning for students to enhance their level of understanding of ‘Iqbaliyaat’, and will also provide them with placement opportunities. Lectures, short courses, and similar other sessions will be organized as part of this agreement throughout the year.

Workshop on Continuum of Care Treatment of Substance Use Disorder 

Lahore, April 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Psychology Department, University of Central Punjab Lahore, organized a Preconference Workshop on “Continuum of Care: Treatment of Substance Use Disorder” at the University of Central Punjab on 29th March 2022. The workshop was held as part of the International Conference on Substance Use Disorders held on 30th-31st March, 2022.

The guest speakers included Prof Dr Uzma Ali, Professor and Director of the Institute of Clinical Psychology at the University of Karachi and Dr Sobia Aftab, Associate Professor at the University of Karachi. Prof Dr Uzma Ali has produced 6 M.Phil and 13 PhD scholars. In addition, she has published more than 50 research papers in national and international Journals. As AD/Editor, she manages two HEC recognized Journals, i.e. Pakistan Journal of Psychology and the Pakistan Journal of Clinical Psychology. She is also a Certified Trainer of Hypnotherapy, National Guilds of Hypnotists (USA).

Dr Sobia Aftab is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Master Practitioner of NLP (USA). She is a Fulbright Post-Doc Fellow; Assistant Editor, PJP; Assistant Book Review Editor, PJCP; and Member Advisory Board, PJW. She is also a member of the Editorial Board, PJAP. She is involved in teaching, research, and clinical practice – her research focus is in the field of Clinical Psychology, especially mental health issues and scale adaptation and development.

The workshop aimed to introduce the participants to the various techniques and strategies used in psychotherapy as a form of treatment for individuals suffering from substance abuse. In addition, the workshop also stressed relapse prevention and care of substance abuse patients. In the end, Dr Shazia Hasan (HOD, Psychology Department) presented a shield and souvenir to the guest speaker. Certificates of Participation were also distributed among the participants.

Faculty of Engineering sends Visiting Researcher to Queen Mary University of London

Lahore, April 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):In its first instance of Faculty Exchange, the Faculty of Engineering has sent Jalil Asghar Mirza (Assistant Professor) to the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), UK as a visiting researcher to work on a joint project between UCP’s Electrical Engineering department, QMUL’s department of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and department of Geography. Mr. Mirza’s objective for this visit is to develop a network of Internet of Things (IoT) based air pollution monitoring nodes along with an IoT based weather station. This project is a part of QMUL’s Living Lab (LL) initiative.

UCP’s Faculty of Engineering has a MoU with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at QMUL. This MoU is spearheaded by Dr. Fesal Toosy (Associate Professor, FOE) who has an active research collaboration with Dr. Stefan Poslad (Director IoT Lab, EECS, QMUL) and Dr. Joshua Reiss (Head of Audio Engineering, EECS, QMUL). Queen Mary University of London is a QS500 ranked university and its EECS department is ranked in the top 20 in the UK.

During this visit, Jalil Mirza recently conducted a workshop/demonstration on wireless air pollution monitoring nodes and IoT based weather station that he developed on this project. This workshop was attended by faculty members, graduate and post graduate students of QMUL. Jalil Mirza has worked for UCP for more than five years and has thirty years of experience in the electronics and telecom industries.

Workshop on Substance Abuse Prevention Skills 

Lahore, April 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Psychology department, University of Central Punjab Lahore, organized a Preconference Workshop on “Substance Abuse Prevention Skills” at the University of Central Punjab on 29th March 2022. It was held in the Psychology Lab of B-building at the University of Central Punjab. The workshop was held as part of the International Conference on Substance Use Disorders held on March 30th-31th March 2022.

The guest speaker was Dr Salman Shahzad, Associate Professor currently serving at the University of Karachi. He is a certified addiction professional. He is a trainer and prevention coordinator in substance use disorder prevention treatment. The workshop aimed to introduce the participants to the various prevention skills used in psychotherapy to help people with addictions and substance abuse issues. In the end, Dr Shazia Hasan (HOD, Psychology Department) presented a shield and souvenir to the guest speaker. Certificates of Participation were also distributed among the participants.

UCP Won the All Pakistan Inter-University Basketball Championship 2021-22

Lahore, April 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Central Punjab won the All Pakistan Inter-University Basketball Championship 2021-22, organised by FAST University, Islamabad, under the supervision of the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan.

Sixteen universities from all over Pakistan qualified for the final round. The final match was played between the University of Central Punjab and Government College University, Lahore. UCP won the final match with a lead of 4 points.

Workshop on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Substance Abuse

Lahore, April 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The department of Psychology, University of Central Punjab Lahore organised a Preconference Workshop on “Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Substance Abuse” at the University of Central Punjab on 22nd March 2022. It was held in the conference room of A-building at the University of Central Punjab. The workshop was held as part of the International Conference on Substance Use Disorders scheduled for 30th-31thMarch, 2022.

The guest speaker was Dr Mahwesh Arooj Naz, Assistant Professor currently serving at Government College University Lahore. The workshop aimed to introduce the participants to the various techniques used in DBT to help people with addictions and substance abuse issues and emphasised the therapy’s efficacy. The workshop proved to be beneficial for professionals and students. In the end, Dr Shazia Hasan (HOD, Psychology Department) presented a shield and souvenir to the guest speaker. Certificates of Participation were also distributed among the participants.
