PRC-Sindh Chairman Samar Ali Khan met with National Chairman Abrar Ul Haq on flood-related issues

Karachi, August 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh Provincial Branch Samar Ali Khan met Chairman PRCS Abrar Ul Haq at National Headquarters Islamabad and apprised him of the current flood situation in Sindh. Chairman Abrar Ul Haq also appreciated the proactive approach of PRC-Sindh branch to deal with any calamity and ongoing efforts to provide maximum relief to the flood victims. Chairman PRCS announced the provision of food aid to 2000 flood-affected families and assured the PRC-Sindh Branch of its full support to rehabilitation of flood victims on a humanitarian cause.

Pakistan Red Crescent accelerated the flood relief operation in Sindh

Karachi, August 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):The recent heavy monsoon rains and subsequent floods left thousands homeless and millions more affected in Sindh province. The Sindh branch of the Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) started its relief operation in early August, which has now been accelerated. The Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh has given relief items in eight districts and is collecting a growing number of relief goods through relief camps; thus, Sindh’s flood-affected areas are being resupplied. PRC-Sindh will soon set up mobile health units, install water purification plants and distribute cash grants for food to flood-affected families.

According to a press release issued by the Media and Communication Department, the Chairman PRC-Sindh Branch Samar Ali Khan said that PRCS National Chairman Abrar Ul Haq announced the provision of food aid to 2000 flood-affected families and assured the PRC-Sindh Branch of its full support to the rehabilitation of flood victims on a humanitarian cause. “Medical camps will be set up soon, along with the distribution of relief items in flood-affected districts of Sindh,” stated PRC-Sindh Chairman Samar Ali Khan.

According to Provincial Secretary of PRC-Sindh Kanwar Waseem, relief items include tents, mosquito nets, stoves, kitchen sets, jerry cans, tarpaulin sheets, hurricane lamps, shelter tool kits, blankets, jackets, water filters, shawls, buckets, hygiene kits for children and women, and so on, have been distributed in Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Shikarpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, where the flood affected people were awaiting relief. “Additionally, the PRC-Sindh teams have finished the assessment of 200 of the most vulnerable households in the districts of Thatta and Dadu in order to provide an unconditional cash grant of Rs. 16,000 and non-food items,” he said.

Kanwar Waseem added that PRC-Sindh has also set up a flood relief camp outside Hilal-e-Ahmer House, Teen Talwar Clifton, where along with the general public, several companies associated with food industries are also donating food items for the flood victims. The Pakistan Red Crescent management praised the general public’s enthusiasm and philanthropists’ generosity in assisting flood-affected families. They urged the business tycoons and donors to make maximum donations to the Pakistan Red Crescent for the flood-affected families so that the needy can be helped in time.

PRC-Sindh received 16,000 pieces of Blue Band and 16,000 packs of Tostees rusks for flood-affected people 

Karachi, August 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):Today, the CEO of Upfield Pakistan Ms. Fariyha Subhani and the CEO of Lotus Foods Mr. Humair Yusuf donated 16,000 pieces of Blue Band Butter and 16,000 Tostees Rusk, respectively, to Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh for the flood-affected people of Sindh province.

Kanwar Waseem, Provincial Secretary of Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh, thanked Ms. Fariyha Subhani and Mr. Fazal for their assistance to flood victims. The Secretary urged the business tycoons, philanthropists and donors to make maximum donations to the Pakistan Red Crescent for the flood-affected families so that the needy can be helped in time.

President meets PRCS Volunteer who saved the life of a Chinese National in Karachi Blast

Islamabad, August 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has always been in the vanguard of action and its humanitarian services rendered during the manmade and natural disasters and peacetime cannot be ignored, said President Dr Arif Alvi during a meeting with a PRCS delegation led by Chairman Abrar ul Haq at the President House on Monday, 6th June 2022.

Dr Arif Alvi met PRCS volunteer Ali Sohaib and appreciated him on providing timely first aid and humanitarian assistance to the victims, and saving the life of a Chinese National in the blast that ripped through the vehicle near University of Karachi’s Confucius Institute in April.

Ali is one of the student of Karachi University and was the first person who actively responded to the blast. At first, Ali brought the fire extinguisher from the university building to extinguish the fire, broke the glass window of the vehicle and took severely injured driver out of the car who unfortunately, expired on the spot. He informed the gathering crowd to stay at the safe distance. Ali gave first to the severely injured Chinese and tried to control his head bleeding with his scarf and placed him on a chair.

He did his best to manage the situation until the ranger personnel arrived and took control of the situation. Ali also sustained injuries while trying to give first aid to the injured. Ali had attended the First Aid training session organized by PRCS in the university, almost three months prior to this incident.

The President said that Ali’s efforts for saving the lives of blast victims, are truly commendable and he is inspiration for all of us. He said volunteers are an asset of the PRCS and emphasized the need for imparting first aid training to all of them. He also stressed on improving and strengthening the coordination with all the stakeholders to help the vulnerable communities.
