CEO Red Bull shares leadership lessons 

Karachi, December 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Mr. Adnan Ahmed, Visiting Faculty, School of Business Studies, organized a guest speaker session for Sales Management MBA students. Mr. Taimour Afaq, CEO, Red Bull was the guest speaker, who shared his selling experiences with the students. Mr. Afaq has an18-year association with leading organizations including, ICI, Pepsi, Mondelez and Kraft Heinz. He has been the CEO, Red Bull for the past 3 years.

Shedding light on the qualities of an effective sales leader, Mr. Afaq highlighted that a sales leader needs to have the ability to inspire and motivate his team. “In Red Bull, they turn the organizational structure upside down in all of their presentations to emphasize that the top leadership teams need to facilitate the people who are actually working to achieve the organizations objectives”, said Mr. Afaq.

He shared his own leadership mantra and spoke about his leadership principles; Inspire, Empathize, Park your ego at home, Be coachable and Be here now. The latter stresses on developing listening skills and giving attention to people when you are communicating with them. He also highlighted the need for feedback for leaders, but also cautioned on how feedback is to be given to your managers. He underlined the importance of learning from anyone, irrespective of the hierarchical ladder.

The guest speaker enlightened the class about the success his company had achieved in Pakistan over the years. Moreover, he shed light on how the role of a modern-day chief executive had evolved to be that of a facilitator for the various functions in the organization. Mr. Afaq spoke about the huge potential that Pakistani market holds which is yet to be realized by companies. Additionally, he underscored the emerging and untapped rural market of Pakistan which can’t be ignored in terms of their sales potential. The session concluded with an interactive Q and A session.

MBA Executive Department organizes a yoga session to encourage a healthy lifestyle 

Karachi, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):A yoga session was arranged by the MBA Executive Department. The session highlighted the importance and impact of a healthy lifestyle among the IBA community. The session was led by Mr. Avais Shuja, who articulately expressed the concept of yoga and demonstrated warm up exercises and postures. He successfully engaged and motivated the audience. The other highlight of the session was deep relaxation, in which participants experienced a complete disconnect from the environment and experienced a deep calmness and serenity.

Dr. Imran Khan, Assistant Professor, School of Mathematics and Computer Science and Mr. Muhammad Munawar, Program Manager, also emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The MBA Executive team is grateful to all internal and external stakeholders for making this event a success. The session concluded with the participants expressing their enthusiasm and requesting more yoga sessions.

Team International Monetary Fund meets Executive Director IBA 

Karachi, November 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ms. Esther Perez Ruiz, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Pakistan, and the former Resident Representative, Ms. Teresa Daban Sanchez visited the Main Campus for a discussion on the economic conditions in Pakistan.

Dr. Zaidi, Team IMF, and faculty members of the Economics Department engaged in a vibrant debate over Pakistan’s economic performance, its adherence to the terms and conditions of the IMF loans, and the effectiveness of these loans. The Team IMF promised to participate in any capacity it can to aid IBA in forming knowledge partnerships with international stakeholders.

Recognition: IBA student launches location-based social media app 

Karachi, November 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Mustafa Baig, BS Computer Science, Class of 2022, has launched Pakistan’s first location-based social media app named NearSphere. The app connects people who are in proximity to each other ranging from 300 meters to 33 kilometers, anywhere in the world. Baig anticipates that the app will revolutionize the way we communicate on social media.

Dr. Nazish Kanwal: Successfully defended her PhD thesis at SMCS IBA

Karachi, November 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):PhD Scholar and Lecturer, School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), Dr. Nazish Kanwal successfully defended her PhD thesis titled ‘Standard Bases for Modules over Polynomial Subalgebras’. The thesis was supervised by Associate Professor, SMCS, Dr. Junaid Alam Khan. Dr. Kanwal is the first candidate to successfully earn her PhD in Mathematics from the IBA Karachi.

The IBA Karachi is an interdisciplinary Institute that offers degree programs in various disciplines including Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts. Furthermore, the Institute launched MS Mathematics and PhD Mathematics programs in 2012. We congratulate Dr. Nazish Kanwal on accomplishing this remarkable feat and making the IBA proud. We wish her immense success in her future endeavours.

World Bank’s Chief Economist for South Asia, Mr. Hans Timmer visits IBA Karachi

Karachi, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):A delegation led by Mr. Timmer met the Dean, School of Economics and Social Sciences, Dr. Asma Hyder, and faculty members of the school, and engaged with the students in an interactive session. The discussion focused on social development, trade, and other key areas that the World Bank is working on in Pakistan. The representatives from the World Bank also briefed the IBA community about their recent report that focuses on reviving exports in Pakistan to improve the trade performance.
