GIKI Chapter for up-coming civil engineers to gain value-able first-hand knowledge about their field

Swabi, December 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):An informative seminar was conducted by Institute of Civil Engineers, GIKI Chapter for up-coming civil engineers to gain value-able first-hand knowledge about their field! The Speaker “Engr. Jawad Mushtaq Janjua”, Manager Monitoring and Contracts at NLC, Peshawar, delivered the seminar on “Contract Administration Practices in Construction Industry of Pakistan”.

The need to understand the importance of contract as well as the complexities one can get in during field work were explained with perfect examples from the real-life experience of the speaker working at a project on Torkham border. The seminar also included Tender and Bidding procedures, Project Recruitment methods, Types of Contracts and Resolution of claims in construction. The seminar was very productive as the students were also engaged in the Q/A session at the end. Dr. Fazal Khalid, Rector GIKI and Dr. Ashraf Tanoli, HOD, DCVE also attended the seminar and gave out their positive feedback.

Swabi, December 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):A delegation of Society for Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST) led by Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan, Ex Federal Minister / Senator and Acting President SOPREST/Board of Governors GIK visited Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute today.

He was accompanied by Mr. Shakil Durrani, Executive Director SOPREST, Col. Hasan Salim Haqqani, Project Director and Mr. Irfan Ahmad, Acting Secretary. The delegation held meeting with the Rector, Pro-Rectors, Faculty Deans and Directors of the Institute. Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan also inaugurated the construction of new faculty accommodation.

Dr. Fazal A. Khalid, SI, Rector GIK Institute briefed the delegation about various activities and projects of the Institute. The delegation was apprised about the new programs started and those planned for the future which include the Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Hybrid Graduate Programs, MS, and PhD in Civil Engineering Department.

The Acting President was also informed about the ongoing infrastructure projects including construction of a new girl’s hostel, accommodation for faculty members and other employees, development of innovative labs and 1 MW solar power project.

The Acting President expressed deep interest in such projects and advised the Institute to continue constructing the buildings and other welfare projects for the employees of the Institute who are making huge contribution in providing top quality education to the students belonging to various parts of the country as Center of Excellence in the fields of engineering sciences and technology.

The faculty members explained the salient features of different programs and the plans for starting innovative subjects being a technology university.

Earlier, the Rector welcomed Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan and expressed his gratitude for visiting GIK Institute as Acting President and Executive Director SOPREST and providing guidance to the Institute for outstanding contribution to the Society in education.

The Acting President paid tributes to late Ghulam Ishaq Khan and his team for establishing an engineering and technology marvel in a rural area for assisting the government in economic development of the country by producing quality HR. the Acting President SOPREST also eulogized the contribution made by his predecessor late Mr. Farid Rahman towards growth of SOPREST and GIK Institute.

The Acting President reposed its confidence in the faculty and the management of the Institute and made commitment to provide all sort of assistance for transforming GIK Institute into a modern and innovative higher education institution in emerging sciences and technology.

Mr. Shakil Durrani advised to introduce innovative programs and improvement in the lab and other facilities for the assistance of the students for which adequate financial support will be provided by SOPREST.

GIK Institute is a premier institution and is famous for the quality education at national as well as international levels. The Institute has produced six thousand five hundred engineers so far who are working in different parts of the world and more than three hundred graduates including US Silicon Valley alone.

Successful Conclusion of WRE 2022: A Commemoration 

Swabi, December 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 4th International Workshop on Functional Reverse Engineering of Machine Tools (WRE 2022) was organized at GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi on 17 December, 2022. The crux of the opinion in the workshop was that the application of functional reverse engineering has gained a considerable momentum for supporting the country in the indigenous development of machine tools to help it grow economically.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Inayatullah Khan Babar, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila was the Chief Guest and Mr. Sajid Shah, Director General, Science and Technology, Government of KP was the Guest of Honour. The workshop brought together a large number of renowned researchers and academicians in machine tools development to share knowledge. There were four theme talks, four keynote talks and six parallel technical sessions including nine invited talks and sixteen chapter presentations. Among the prominent speakers at WRE 2022 were:

Addressing the congregations, the Chief Guest said that the objective of the workshop is to develop indigenous expertise in functional reverse engineering and to foster an implementable model for enterprise of reverse engineering at GIK for promoting enterprises of reverse engineering. Professor Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI, Rector (Academic), GIK Institute said the workshop was a golden opportunity for the academic experts from across the world and Pakistan to exchange views with each other and adopt new measures for quality enhancement in different products.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Sardar Aminullah Khan, Pro-Rector (Admin and Finance), thanked all the keynote and invited speakers, session chairs, and participants for their contributions. The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Professor Dr. Fazal A. Khalid appreciated the untiring efforts of the WRE 2022 General Chair, Professor Dr. Wasim A. Obituary 

Swabi, December 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Acting President of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST) Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan, the Rector, Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid along with the academic faculties and officials of both organizations express their deepest sorrow and condolence at the passing away of Mr. Farid Rahman, the President of SOPREST and GIKI.

Mr. Farid Rahman has been a Regular and a committed Member of the General Council of SOPREST since 2010. He was elected its President in 2020. Mr. Farid Rahman was earlier selected to the Civil Services of Pakistan in 1962 and after serving for over a decade joined the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF). He retired from the Fund after holding several high level positions including that of Country Director China. On returning to Pakistan Mr. Farid Rahman served in the Privatization Commission and later as Minister for Finance, Planning and Development in the former NWFP (KP).

He would be remembered as a dedicated and hardworking professional with lasting contributions to the organizations he served in within the country and abroad. His services to the society in diverse fields would remain a source of inspiration to those he worked with. The SOPREST and GIK Institute while recording their condolences at Mr. Farid Rahman’s demise seek the Almighty’s blessings for the departed soul and pray that his family finds constant solace.

10th International Science and Youth Symposium (ISYS’10) 

Swabi, December 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):GIK Science Society under the Department of Student Affairs organized an All-Pakistan Event named as “10th International Science and Youth Symposium (ISYS’10)” on 2nd,3rd and 4th December 2022 at GIK Institute. The main purpose of this event was to promote science and technology among the students of GIK Institute, and to the participants from different Universities/Institute of Pakistan. Mr Ahsan Iqbal Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Special was invited as a chief guest for the opening ceremony of the event.

There were around 200 participants from different universities of Pakistan who actively participated in the event. Students from APS, Punjab Group of Colleges, Forman Christian College, PIEAS, Army Burn Hall College, Institute of Space and Technology, Kinnaird College for Women University, Quaid e Azam Law College, Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar, FAST NUCES Islamabad, NUML, NUTECH, Edwards College Peshawar, University of Peshawar, CECOS, IQRA University, COMSATS University etc. participated in the event.

Renowned speakers were invited to pursue with the module of speaker session. The sole purpose of the speaker session was to educate the students of the GIK Institute/participants with the decision-making skills, how to counter different issues faced in our daily life and motivate them to take different possible steps to be successful in their life.

The speakers included were Mr Muhammad Taha Social Media influencer in Pakistan, Ms Anum Khalid a feminist student activist for human rights/co-founder of the NGO Mahwari Justice, Ms Bushra Mahnoor a social activist/founder of NGO Mahwari Justice, Mr Ateeq Afridi a social activist for the welfare of Pakistan, Mr Kashif Taj a serial entrepreneur/technologist and a user-focused product designer, Mr Umair Jaliawala a strong learning consultant/trainer/keynote speaker and facilitator, Mr Salman Saeed a serial entrepreneur/investment consultant, Mr Saad Munawar a writer/mountain climber and adventurer.

The other modules included were the “Science Marathon” where the participants were given different tasks related to the science and technology to complete it in the specific time. A module named “Astronomy Night” was organized to experience the universe at night using the high-definition telescope. A quiz related module was organized to test the knowledge of the participants in the field of science and technology.

The participants were entertained with music night and a theme dinner to enlighten the ongoing event. The winner and guests were awarded with the prizes/certificates on the closing ceremony of the event.
