Karachi, March 30, 2023 (PPI-OT):The APNS expresses its profound grief over the sad and sudden demise of its senior colleague veteran publisher, Mr. Mumtaz A Tahir, chief editor Daily Aftab Multan and Lahore.

“Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani President and Sarmad Ali, Secretary General of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society have stated that Mr. Tahir was a consistent upholder of the rights of regional press. His contribution to the cause of Newspaper industry would be remembered for long. He served continuously as member of the Executive committee of the APNS and was elected office bearer and chairman of various committees of the APNS for several terms during last four decades.

The APNS offered condolence to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give them courage and patience to bear the loss.

Karachi, March 24, 2023 (PPI-OT): The APNS expresses its pleasure over the conferring of prestigious civil awards, Hilal-e-Imtiaz upon its two former presidents i.e. late Mr. Arif Nizami and Mr. Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami and Mr. Altaf Hasan Qureshi, member emeritus, and pride of performance to Mr. Tikka Khan, Secretary General, All Pakistan Akhbar Farosh Federation.

Ms. Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani, President and Mr. Sarmad Ali, Secretary General of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society have congratulated Mr. Shami on receiving the prestigious award in recognition of his lifelong services for the promotion and development of journalism and print media in the country.

Annual General Council Meeting of All Pakistan Newspapers Society held

Karachi, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Annual Meeting of the APNS General Council held on March 20, 2023 at APNS House, Karachi unanimously elected Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani as President, Imtinan Shahid as Senior Vice President, Muhammad Aslam Kazi as Vice President, Sarmad Ali as Secretary General, S.M. Munir Jilani as Joint Secretary and Shahab Zuberi as Finance Secretary of the Society. The AGM was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Sarmad Ali, President of the Society. The Council unanimously approved the report of the Executive Committee for the year 2022-2023 as well as the Annual Accounts of the Society for the year 2022.

The General Council attended by 128 members from across the country, formed an Election Commission headed by Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi with Nasir Daad Baloch and Mumtaz Ahmed Phulpoto as members. The Election Commission conducted the election of the Executive Committee for the year 2023-24. Following dailies and magazines were elected un-opposed to the Executive Committee of the APNS for the next tenure:

Daily Aghaz, Daily Business Recorder, Daily Deyanat, Daily Dawn, Daily Jasarat, Daily Jiddat (Khi), Daily Abtak, Daily Dunya, Daily Jang, Daily Khabrain, Daily Pakistan, Daily Tijarat, Daily Ausaf, Daily Sahafat, Daily Awam (Quetta), Daily Mashriq (Quetta), Daily Mashriq (Peshawar), Daily Wahdat, Daily Kawish (Hyd), Daily Kaleem (Sukkur), Daily Aftab (Multan), Daily Paigham, Daily Business Report, Daily City 42, Daily Pakistan Observer, Daily Halchal (Hyd) and Daily Sayadat, Monthly Dastak, Nawa-i-Waqt, Monthly Naey Ufaq, Monthly Naya Rukh, Monthly Centerline, Fortnightly Ibrat Magazine and Weekly Nikhar were elected on periodical seats.

The new Executive Committee elected Mrs. Zahida Abbasi of Daily Nau Sijj, Karachi on woman – publishers seat. The newly elected Executive Committee appreciated the performance of the Election Commission. The AGM in a resolution, expressed its profound concern on the state of print media due to the present economic situation which has caused severe financial crisis for newspapers, many of them are at the verge of collapse. In this situation, the media expected support from the government to brave the financial crunch.

The AGM urged upon the Federal Government to pay the long outstanding dues of newspaper industry amounting to over Rs.2 billion, increase the quantum of advertisements and allocate a separate share of print media in the advertising budget so that the newspaper industry would be able to survive in the present situation. The AGM reiterated that the Federal Government has not yet implemented the recommendation of 8th Wage Board to increase the government advertising rates in proportion increase in the wages despite various assurances.

Annual General Council meeting of APNS will meet on March 20

Karachi, March 16, 2023 (PPI-OT): “The Annual General Council of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society will meet on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at APNS House, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, “stated a press release of the APNS.

The Annual General Council will discuss the conditions prevailing in the newspaper industry and take decisions to address the problems faced by the member publications and will finalize its recommendations on the issues pertaining to the Govt. – Press relations, freedom of press and the future of the industry. The members will consider and adopt the report of the Executive Committee for the year 2022-2023, approve audit report for Annual Accounts for the year 2022 and elect members to the Executive Committee for the year 2023-2024. The new Executive Committee will elect its office bearers for the new term. The meetings of the General Councils will be attended by full members only.

The Secretary General, APNS has requested publishers of full member publications to attend the above Council meeting positively.”
