Pakistani athletes won 2 Silver medals in ongoing 2nd Imam Reza International Cup Tournament at Mashhad Iran

Lahore, May 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):It is informed that Pakistan athletics team is currently participating in 2nd Imam Reza International Cup Tournament in Mashhad, Iran.

In this regard, it gives me immense pleasure to apprise that our athletes Sharoz Khan and Abdul Mueed won Silver Medals in the events of High Jump and 400m race respectively.

Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi (R) President, AFP and Muhammad Zafar, Secretary General AFP congratulated the wining athletes and entire Pakistan athletics family.

Kids Athletics Day 

Lahore, May 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):It gives me immense pleasure to apprise that as per the announcement and compliance of the directive issued by the World Athletics (International Athletics Governing Body) to celebrate and organize a Kids Athletics Day. In this regard, Athletics Federations of over 200 countries are celebrating and organizing Kids Athletics Day today on 07 May 2022. Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has also organised a celebration ceremony of Kids Athletics Day today (7 May 2022) in Lahore, Pakistan.

It further apprised that children of the different schools have participated in this event. Muhammad Zafar, Secretary General AFP was the chief guest of the ceremony. He distributed gifts and certificates among the participating children.

He commended the children who participated in the event and expressed his happiness on the participation of many children in the event. He also conveyed a message of appreciation from Major General (retd) Muhammad Akram Sahi, President AFP / Vice President Asian Athletics Association (AAA) / Chairman South Asian Athletics Federation. SAAF) to children and guests.

The key objectives and aims of celebrating and organising Kids Athletics Day are as under:

To ensure a steady and sustainable policy of development of the sport of Athletics.

To introduce Children to Athletics at a basic level.

To expand sport of athletics for schools and all institutions who are interested in the well-being of children.

To popularise athletics in the country and world.

To raise awareness on the importance of fitness and encourage people to get more involved in sports and athletics.

The vision behind Kids’ Athletics is the belief that every child is born to move, to play, to explore. No matter where they are in the world, no matter their individual circumstances, it’s their fundamental right to have access to sport.

National Athletics Training Camp 

Lahore, April 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is presently organizing a 90 days Athletics training camp at the PSB Coaching Centre, Lahore. Sixty (60) National athletes (male) and coaches from all affiliated Units of AFP are attending the training camp which has been organized to prepare national Athletes for the forthcoming 14th South Asian Games. All participants are very appreciative of the newly renovated hostel facility and the nutritionally balanced diet that is being served to them. Rana Nasrullah Director PSB is the camp commandant and he is supervising athlete training activities being implemented by the camp coaches.

Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi, President AFP who is also Vice President Asian Athletics Association and Chairman South Asian Athletics Federation visited the camp facility on 14.04.2022 and was apprized about different aspects of this preparatory Athletics camp. He appreciated the newly renovated facilities and balanced diet being served to the participants. He advised the athletes and coaches to adopt training techniques based upon scientific research, as this method will produce the desired results.

President AFP cautioned the athletes and coaches to avoid the use of performance enhancing drugs which is unlawful and punishable under AFP and WADA laws. He stated that these illegal drugs are detrimental for human health and cause irreversible damage to athletes who use them. It is unfortunate that recently athletes from other national Federations were caught and banned by WADA for doping. President AFP stated that AFP is only asking athletes to work hard and bring discipline into individual training regimes, we do not ask you to break records overnight and give optimum performances.

AFP is a disciplined organization that follows and implements the Law, it has zero tolerance for cheats and transgressors and will punish any violators to the fullest extent of the Law. It was also decided that National trials for all Athletics events will be held on 26-27 April 2022 at Punjab Stadium, Lahore. The purpose of trails is the selection of athletes for International Athletics Competition (2nd Imam Reza Cup Tournament) which is scheduled from 29-30 May 2022 at Mashhad, Iran.

Closing Ceremony of Women Technical Officials Course – Athletics Federation of Pakistan

Dear Media Friends,

It gives me immense pleasure to inform that with the collaboration and support of World Athletics (WA) Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organized its 1st women Technical Officials Education and Certification System (TOECS) Level – I course from 18-22 March 2022 at PSB Coaching Centre Lahore.

It is the 1st time in the history of Pakistan Athletics that we have conducted TOECS course exclusively for women technical officials. Duration of the course was 05 days and it concluded today on 22 March 2022. Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi, HI (M), SI (M), President Athletics Federation of Pakistan / Vice President Asian Athletics Association distributed Certificates among the participants of course and appreciated the women who came from far-flung area of Pakistan to attend the course.

The main purpose to organize the course was to increase the number of qualified women technical officials in the country and to enhance their knowledge / skills. Seventeen (17) women technical officials namely Shabana Khattak, Sadaf Siddiqui, Sumera Hussain, Shakila Rehman, Shagufta Akhtar Khan, Shabana Shaikh, Shabana Kousar, Sadia Sanaullah, Rahat Nawaz, Nasreen Fakhra, Maria Maratab, Mafia Parveen, Kaneez Sughra, Fozia Shaheen Mughal, Beenish Amin, Attia Maqbool and Abida Changezi from the Associations and Departments affiliated with AFP attended the Course.

World Athletics had approved Wing Commander (R) Pervaiz Saeed Mir as Lecturer to conduct this course. President of National Athletics Association of Technical Officials (NAATO) Mr. Tariq Mehmood Sidhu was nominated as Course Secretary whereas Mr. Khurshid Akhtar Butt performed as, Coordinator of the Course.

The course will contribute a lot in the promotion of athletics at different levels and the qualified women technical officials will be eligible to attend TOECS Level – II course. They will have chance to perform duties in the National and International Athletics Competitions.

1st Women’s World Athletics Technical Officials Education and Certification System Level-I Course

Lahore, March 17, 2022 (PPI-OT): It gives me immense pleasure to inform that Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) is organizing first time in the history Pakistan Athletics 1st Women’s World Athletics Technical Officials Education and Certification System (TOECS) Level – I Course with the collaboration and support of World Athletics (WA) from 18th to 22nd March 2022 at PSB Coaching Centre Lahore. Twenty (20) Women Technical Officials of the different Associations / Departments will participate in this Course.

The purpose of this course is to enhance the number of women technical officials and to sharp their skills and knowledge. The enhancement of numbers of Women technical officials will be very helpful to conduct the National Athletics Championships in a most professional manner.

World Athletics (WA) has approved the nomination of Wing Commander (R) Pervez Saeed Mir, as Course Director to conduct the course in a most professional manner. Preparations to conduct the course are at final stage. The course will contribute a lot in the smooth conduct of National Competitions in future. Qualified Technical Officials will also become eligible to conduct the International Competitions under South Asian Athletics Federation and Asian Athletics Association (AAA).

Foreign Training of Mr. Arshad Nadeem (Javelin Thrower) – South Africa 

Lahore, March 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):It gives me immense pleasure to apprised you that with the efforts of Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) our 2 athletes namely Arshad Nadeem and Mr. Muhammad Yasir (Elite Javelin Thrower) are proceeding to South Africa tonight. They will train for 4 months under world renowned coach Mr. Terseus Libenberg at North West University Camps in Potchefstroom, South Africa. We are confidence that both the athlete will benefit from this rare opportunity of foreign training by an experienced international coach and will bring laurels for the country in future competitions.
