Islamabad, November 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): Department of Management and Social Sciences organized a seminar “Optimism: The Hidden Talent” under the supervision of Ms. Rabia Habib. The guest Speaker, Ms. Javeria Suhaib is Clinical Psychologist at JOY Psychology Clinic.
Ms. Javeria shared her views regarding the differences between optimistic and pessimistic attitudes. In the face of setbacks, challenges or difficult jobs, pessimist is more likely to do worse than predicted and even give up, while optimists will persevere. She emphasized the fact that Optimism, is an important component of achievement, and is very important in times of chaos, change and turbulence. Those who have an optimistic outlook will roll with the punches, will be more proactive, persistent and will not abandon hope.
The guest speaker discussed the concept of “Shadow Attributes “with the audience. She further supported her views with reference to research outcomes, which shows that optimism is correlated with many positive life outcomes including increased life expectancy, general health, better mental health, increased success in sports and work, greater recovery rates from heart operations and better coping strategies, when faced with adversity.
The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness of positive thinking and techniques to practice positive attitude towards life. The primary aspect, scrutinized by the guest speaker was how students can prepare themselves for the challenges in life, how they can compete in life and develop skills to improve social behaviour. At the end of the seminar, souvenir was presented to the guest speaker, Ms. Javeria Suhaib.
