Ms. Javeria shared her views regarding the differences between optimistic and pessimistic attitudes. In the face of setbacks, challenges or difficult jobs, pessimist is more likely to do worse than predicted and even give up, while optimists will persevere. She emphasized the fact that Optimism, is an important component of achievement, and is very important in times of chaos, change and turbulence. Those who have an optimistic outlook will roll with the punches, will be more proactive, persistent and will not abandon hope.

The guest speaker discussed the concept of “Shadow Attributes “with the audience. She further supported her views with reference to research outcomes, which shows that optimism is correlated with many positive life outcomes including increased life expectancy, general health, better mental health, increased success in sports and work, greater recovery rates from heart operations and better coping strategies, when faced with adversity.
