Lahore, January 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): A team of Punjab University has won top positions with outstanding performance in international surveying skill competition at Guangdong Polytechnic of Industry and Commerce, Guangzhou, China. As many as nine countries were invited to participate and compete in the competition. South Surveying and Mapping Instrument Co. Ltd., the leading Chinese and world’s # 4 survey instrument company provided its latest equipment to the participating teams for pre-competition training and on-site examination. China Nonferrous Metal Industry Human Resource Center (CMPHR), a state institution responsible for the education in terms of nonferrous metal industry talent, organized the competition.
PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad Akhtar had nominated a team of one instructor, Dr. Muhammad Umar Manzoor, Assistant Professor, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and two students Ramsha Rauf and Hamas-ul-Ghani of 3rd Year Applied Geology, Institute of Geology to participate in the competition. In the competition, Pakistan won 1st position in Second Class Levelling, 3rd position in Total Station Lofting and won 2nd position over all out of 9 participating countries.
Dr. Muhammad Umar Manzoor won the award for outstanding instructor in the competition. As a result, South Surveying and Mapping Instrument Co. Ltd donated a set of South Total Station NTS-332R4 equipment for strengthening the teaching quality of surveying and mapping. In this regard, a ceremony was held at Vice Chancellor’s office to appreciate the achievement of the PU team. Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Institute of Geology’s Director Prof Dr Shahid Jameel Sameeni, Prof Dr Shahid Ghazi and members of the winning team were present on the occasion. Prof Niaz Ahmad warmly welcomed the winning team and appreciated their efforts in the competition.
