Punjab University lab joins hand with UN for ocean science

Lahore, June 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab University’s Remote Sensing, GIS and Climatic Research Lab, National Center of GIS and Space Applications has got the status of partner organization of the United Nations’ Decade to supports its objectives under its “Institutional Capacity Building and Professional Development Programme, ICBPDP”. The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO has designed the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in the recognition that much more needs to be done to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and create improved conditions for the sustainable development of the ocean, seas and coasts.

RSGCRL aims at contributing in “Ocean Science and Technology” and “Ocean Policy and Sustainable Development” to improve the understanding of ecosystems of Arabian Sea and Pakistani coastal areas and their functioning as the basis for their management and adaptation in the context of climate change and water and air pollution by using Satellite Remote Sensing and Geo-spatial techniques. This activity is in support to the vision of PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed to develop linkages with industry and academia.
