PU-IMMG Students Won the American Society for Microbiology’s World Agar Art Competition 

Lahore, December 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) revealed the winners of their 8th Global Annual Agar Art Contest. This year artists were given the theme of “Your Favourite Microbiologist”. The idea behind this contest was to spotlight the famous and forgotten scientists and their stories.

Nearly 200 works of art were submitted, each telling a different story through both art and words. On Wednesday, November 30th, the results were formally confirmed after ASM leads including scientists, bio artists and People’s choice award had made their decision.

Kausar Bano, Fiza Sikandar and Linta Khalid final year Undergraduate (BS) students at the Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics IMMG, University of the Punjab won the first place in “Creator” category.

The Multi-Panel artwork “Paragon of Microbiology” shows Robert Koch (Top left), Rita Cowell (Top right), and Louis Pasteur (bottom right and left) being depicted by Serratia Marcescens (orange/red color) and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (yellow and off-white) bacteria.

Artist also shared their inspiration of selecting them as their favourite scientists and demonstrated their artistic ability by growing on Nutrient Agar. Director Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics IMMG, University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri congratulated the winning team, she appreciated the students efforts and winning this global competition.
