PPP not happy on relief to masses in federal budget: Haleem Adil Sheikh

Karachi, June 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Ruling party of Sindh, PPP, is not happy because the federal government has given relief to the poor masses in the federal budget and increased taxes only on luxury imported goods, said Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) vice president and parliamentary party leader Haleem Adil Sheikh here Saturday.

Addressing a news conference flanked by opposition leader in Sindh assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi, he said that the federal government is people-friendly. He said the PPP is not happy because double-cabin vehicles, imported cigarettes and chocolates are made costlier, and cement, petrol, cooking oil, shoes, houses and other daily use commodities cheaper. He said imported energy drinks are made costlier, because poor masses do not need them. They already have a high energy. He said the salaries are not increased but they should have been increased. He said that due to coronavirus even giving this relief is a big achievement.

He said we are a poor country but still giving relief to people. He said the paper for printing Holy Quran is made less cheaper but the cigarette paper is made costlier. He said the current account deficit would be decreased to 4.4. He said SICDL is working for development of Sindh but the PPP is not happy because it is installing RO plants in Thar. He said the PPP is criticizing the federal budget without reading it. He said they should remember that they would also present a budget in Sindh and we can reply in the same currency. He said they are not ready to listen my voice because I tell the truth. He said corruption mafia and locusts are harming this country.

Haleem Adil said in Sindh doctors are protesting because no facilities are given to them. He said instead of giving budget to government hospitals in Sindh, they gave Rs30 Crore to the Indus Hospital, which is only running 8 ventilators. He asked why this budget was not given to the JPMC and CHK. He said the federal government has given budget of Rs13billion to the hospitals of Sindh and we will run them efficiently and no patient would commit suicide by jumping from any hospital building. He said the Prime Minister has given 99 ventilators.

He said the defense budget is necessary for the country. He said had our defense were not strong today we would have become another Syria. He said we have presented a tax-free budget. He said Sindh government has given 111 health facilities to NGOs and there are no facilities in these hospitals.

He said we will augment our defense system. He said we sleep soundly because our brave armed forces are there to defend the country. He said despite very difficult situation our Captain has given a tax-free budget. He said the government has given land to Aga Khan Hospital for serving the poor people. He said previous day Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) got Rs1.9million from a poor patient for treatment. He appealed to Prince Aga Khan to look into this matter and ensure that the AKUH Karachi is giving free healthcare facilities to the poor masses.

However, Firdous Shamim Naqvi said the federal government has presented a good budget. He said many businesses are given a support and many sectors a lot of relief. He said facilities are given to the social net. He said proper collection of taxes is necessary to run the country. He said taxes could give relief to this country from loans. He said there is 9 percent deficit in the federal budget.

He said a cut in defense expenditures was not possible due to present threats to the nation and country. He said the opposition budget should make its shadow budget. He said the federal government is earmarked Rs13billion for three big hospitals of Karachi. He said there should be proper audit of NICVD funds. He said not only politicians but bureaucrats in Pakistan are also corrupt. He asked who issued fake domiciles to people. He said a lot of people migrated from Karachi to other cities due to law and order problem.
