Ph.D Open Defense seminar held 

Khairpur, November 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):A Ph. D Open Defense Seminar was held in the Institute of International Relations, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Ph. D Research Scholar Mr. Bilal Muhammad delivered his seminar on the topic “Sino-US Engagement in Asia-Pacific: Challenges and Opportunities” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided over the open defense.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the topic of the research scholar is very important having strategic, political, and economic significance. It will provide advantage to the policy makers, research scholars and students in the field of international politics. He appreciated the efforts of Director Institute of International Relations for striving to promote the research culture in the institute.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that the Asia Pacific remained strategic and geo-political centric. It has great significance in term of economic and natural resources. He shed light on the research work of the scholar. He said the research work has been accomplished in terms of modern trends of research.

Dr. Waseem Ishaque, Professor, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad and Dr. Muhammad Khan, Professor, International Islamic University, Islamabad, External Research Experts also shared their views. They said that the research work of the scholar is indeed value-added and worth academic. They said that the peaceful rise of China is new phenomena in Asian Pacific and emerged as second largest economic power having 15 Trillion Dollar GDP. They also commended the hospitality extended by the Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro remarked that this research work conducted by the scholar will provide guideline for future scholars. It will be also additional significant research work for the Institute of International Relations. Research Scholar Mr. Bilal Muhammad said that geographically the region has immense strategic significance owing to world’s five major sea lines of communication connecting the world six largest ports alongside others.

He said in future Sino-US engagements in the regional will exacerbate and Pakistan being at important strategic crossroad will also attract the focus of both powers. He said that the objective of my research was to explore the regional geo-political landscape under the ambit of U.S-China interaction in various regional issues and future course of action.

Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh¸ Director Postgraduate Studies conducted the proceedings of the seminar. The open defense seminar was declared successful. Many Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students attended the seminar.
