PAT holds ‘Call for Justice’ rallies in 60 cities

Lahore, June 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) took out rallies ‘Call for Justice’ on the completion of the eight years of Model Town tragedy in more than 60 cities of Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan and asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to play his role in the provision of justice to the families of the martyrs as well as those injured during the tragic day.

A rally that was held in front of the Lahore Press Club at Shimla Pahari was attended by hundreds of workers as well as the children and family members of the martyrs. Addressing the rally, Bisma Amjad, daughter of Tanzila Amjad Shaheed, said that it was her question to the Chief Justice of Pakistan as to why her mother and aunty Shazia Murtaza were martyred; why she was deprived of the love and affection of her mother; and why she is unable to get justice despite the fact that the eight years have gone by. She said that the accused are benefiting from the pending appeals and the stay order given by the Lahore High Court, adding that they are getting acquittals from the lower courts one after the other.

The rally that started from Aiwan-e-Iqbal to the Lahore Press Club was led by MQI Lahore president Rana Nafees Hussain Qadri, PAT Lahore president Dr Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, President MWL Pakistan Dr Farah Naz, President MYL Mazhar Mahmood Alvi and President MSM Chaudhry Irfan Yousaf.

Addressing the rally, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that our only demand before the judiciary on the eighth anniversary of Model Town tragedy is that the stay order is withdrawn and the JIT is restored so that the stalled process of justice could be resumed. He said that the Model Town case is alive today because of the courageous role of media, and the steadfastness of the families of the martyrs and Shaykh-ul-Isla Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri.

Rana Nafees Hussain Qadri said that the societies that fail to dispense justice become spiritually and morally dead. Mazhar Mahmood Alvi said that the dispensation of justice in the Model Town case will lead to progress, stability of the country and revival of faith in the justice system. He warned in the same breath that no one would be able to stop this nation from courting more chaos and destruction in the absence of justice. Chaudhry Irfan Yousaf maintained that we have neither forgotten the martyrs nor we will.

Besides women, children and people representing all walks of life, the senior MQI and PAT leaders who attended the rally included Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees, Raja Zahid Mahmood, Mian Zahid Islam, Noorullah Siddiqui, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry, Ishtiaq Hanif Mughal, Shahzad Rasool, Sohail Raza, Allama Rana Farooq, Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, Hafiz Ghulam Farid, Sidra Karamat, Ayesha Shabbir, Haji Farrukh, Naureen Alvi, Haji Zulifqar Ali, Shahzad Khan, Allama Mir Asif Akbar, Allama Rafique Randahwa, Mufti Ghulam Asghar Siddiqui, and Raja Nadeem.
