Pakistan ranks 74th across 128 countries in the world on subjecting government powers to non-government checks: Survey

Islamabad, November 25, 2020 (PPI-OT): According to a World Justice Project (WJP) Survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, Pakistan ranks 74 among 128 countries surveyed in the world on subjecting government powers to non-government checks.

The global survey results are based on sub-Factor 1.5 of the WJP Constraints on Government Power Index which measures whether an independent media, civil society organizations, political parties, and individuals are free to report and comment on government policies without fear of retaliation.

Pakistan vs. Neighbouring/ South Asian Countries: On this index, India ranks much higher than Pakistan at 65, while Iran ranks 126th, China ranks 127th and Bangladesh ranks 121st.

Pakistan vs. Developed: Denmark ranks 1st on this index, followed by UK at 9th and US at 15th.
