Pakistan Bar Council appreciates decision of Federal Government to merge FATA in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, June 21, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mr. Shabbir Shar, Chairman, Executive Committee, Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, former Vice Chairman and Mr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhry, former Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, appreciating the decision of Federal Government to merge FATA in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, by way of amendment in the Constitution, accepting the long standing demand of the people of FATA, have urged upon the Government to ensure giving right of franchise to them in the ensuing general elections scheduled for 25th July, 2018 enabling them also to choose and elect their representatives to the National and Provincial Assemblies.

Any delay of election in FATA till after assuming the charge of new Government in KP, after election, may frustrate and impair the process of free and fair elections thus depriving the people of FATA to elect representatives of their own choice in a transparent manner. They have, therefore demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan and Caretaker Federal Government to ensure and make all possible steps for holding fair and free election in FATA on 25th July, 2018, as well, in the larger national interest.
