On the occasion of Defense Day, a special function was organized in IUB to pay tribute to the martyrs of the country

Bahawalpur, September 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):A special ceremony held in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur to pay tribute to the martyrs of the country. On the occasion of Defence Day Vice-Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said in a message. We celebrate defence day as Pakistan Day. On this day, September 6, 1965, our brave forces crushed the evil intentions of the enemy. The special feature of the 1965 war was the spirit of ideal love of the Pakistan Army and the people of Pakistan. This love enabled us to defeat an enemy many times bigger than us.

Today, there is crucial need to awaken and energize this spirit again. Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar said that today reminds us of our martyrs and on this day the soldiers of Pakistan Army laid down their lives. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Zahid Parvez Warraich said that we should all play an active role to fulfill their children’s education and other needs. The war of 1965 was the first war of Pakistan in which the soldiers of the Pakistan Army gave their lives and this is still going on. We should take care of their families as much as possible.

Focal person Prof. Dr. Abdul Wajid Khan, Chairman, Department of Media and Communication Studies gave the welcome speech and thanked all the guests. He said that Pakistan is still fighting an economic war and we all have to free Pakistan from this war. Prof. Dr. Sheikh Shafiq-ur-Rahman, Dean Faculty of Islamic Learning told about the high position of martyrs in the light of Quran and Sunnah. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences paid tribute to the families of all the martyrs and highlighted the spirit of martyrdom and harmony among the students.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Muhammad Abid, father of martyred Capt. Hassan Abid, said that Shaheed Capt. Hassan Abid was born in Bahawalpur, he got commission in Pakistan Army in 2002 and participated in many operations after PMA long course. . On January 8, 2011, he was martyred while fighting bravely in a battle and was awarded Basalat medal. Capt. Sohail Akbar’s father Akbar Bhatti said that Capt. Sohail Akbar was born on December 11, 1979 in Bahawalpur and he got commissioned in Pakistan Army on October 14, 2001.

He was an expert and experienced pilot in the Pakistan Army and he showed his bravery in Operation Al Mizan and Operation Rah Rast and flew the helicopter for 300 hours in these operations. On July 3, 2009, this iron man achieved martyrdom during a difficult and risky operation. In honour of his courage, steadfastness and professional skills, he was awarded the Basalat Medal. Wing Commander Khurram Samad’s wife Shaista Khurram said that Wing Commander Khurram Samad was born on June 18, 1976 in Karachi and died in Pakistan in 1995. Commissioned at Air Force Academy Risalpur and posted at Mianwali where he mastered flying Miraj aircraft.

On June 3, 2014, during a flight, his plane suffered from a technical problem and he was martyred saving the plane from falling on the population with great skill. In this way he saved the lives of hundreds of people. In recognition of their bravery and martyrdom, the sitare-e-Basalat was awarded to him. On this occasion, the students saluted the martyrs and veterans with special mime, national songs and sketches. The event was hosted by Agha Sadaf Mehdi, Senior Producer Campus Radio.
