Lahore, May 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Through their excellent academic performance and research experience, LUMS students continue to distinguish themselves internationally. Muhammad Adil Inam, a BS Computer Science student at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, and a member of the University’s Class of 2020, has been awarded the esteemed Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Computer Science Fellowship for a PhD programme at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign (UIUC).
As a testament to Mr. Inam’s outstanding academic record and research endeavours, the fellowship provides a full tuition scholarship along with a stipend. In addition to this, he has also received funded PhD admission offers from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Virginia.
During his time at LUMS, Mr. Inam was able to explore a wide variety of fields within Computer Science, and that helped shape his interests. He gained valuable research exposure by working on various projects dealing in systems, security, and programme analysis. These projects provided him with the opportunity to collaborate with diverse research groups, including the Secure and Transparent Systems (STS) Lab at UIUC. His work led him to develop tools and techniques to help make existing systems more secure and reliable, and to improve the quality of forensic investigations using data provenance and software instrumentation techniques.
Mr. Inam attributes his success to the guidance he has received from the Computer Science faculty, the diverse undergraduate experience that LUMS has to offer, and the various research opportunities that he was able to avail. In the future, he aims to make substantial contributions to the field of Computer Science, and develop security-enhanced systems capable of reliably combating, tracking and explaining system intrusions.
