Lahore, March 03, 2019 (PPI-OT): The launch of Computer Engineering (CE) Department at the Information Technology University (ITU) the Punjab in addition to existing 11 degree programs will cater the needs of the industry and the academia. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar Vice Chancellor said on the approval of CE Department by the 9th meeting of the ITU Syndicate held here today under his chairmanship.
Addressing the Syndicate Members Dr. Niaz said that the University aimed to educate the next generation of innovators, engineers and scientists to develop technologies to drive the country’s economic growth and to focus on resolving local problems with an emphasis on research and entrepreneurship for socio economic development.
The meeting lauded all the measures taken by the ITU administration to promote skilled education in the field of computer science and engineering. Industrial and academicals needs of the skilled based education and its role for economic stability and development was also reiterated.
The Syndicate members Ms. Khadija Umer Member Provincial Assembly Punjab, Muhammad Kashif Member Provincial Assembly Punjab, Dr. Naveed Malik Representative of Higher Education Commission, Nasrullah Virk Representative of Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Jawaid A. Ghani of Karachi School of Business and Leadership, Ms. Salima Hashmi, Vice Chairperson (Punjab) Commission of Human Rights, Pakistan, representatives of Higher Education and Finance Departments, Dr. Akmal Hussain, Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Bashir A. Khan Dean Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Dr. Faisal Kamiran Dean Faculty of Science, Dr. Tauseef Tauqir Dean Faculty of Engineering and Registrar ITU Zaheer Sarwar attended the meeting.
The meeting also accorded approval to the revised budget estimates for 2018-19 and the arrangements of the second convocation being held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10 am at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, to confer degrees of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Executive Master in Business, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship among students enrolled in the Bachelors and Masters programs. Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Governor of the Punjab who is also Chancellor ITU, will preside over the ceremony and confer degrees upon graduating students and award medals to high achievers.
