Karachi, November 14, 2017 (PPI-OT):”The University of Karachi students clinched first position among 126 projects displayed from 30 different universities from all over Pakistan at the DICE (Distinguished Innovation Collaboration Entrepreneurship Foundation USA) -UAF Innovation event themed Agriculture and Food Sciences held during 7-8 November 2017 at University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
University of Karachi showed full participation in the event with 35 students represented 14 projects from Department of Botany, Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Food Science and Technology and Karachi University Business School under the umbrella of ORIC- University of Karachi. Among them two projects from Department of Botany University of Karachi were short listed and secured 1st and 6th position. Two students from department of botany Hira Anwar and Marium Asif while two students from Karachi University Business School (KUBS) Bakhtiar Ali and Fabiha Erfan secured the positions.
By developing environment friendly organic plastic as substitute for synthetic plastic the winning project grasp the attention of distinguished judges from industries and academia. The winning team comprised of two students from Department of Botany University of Karachi and two students from Karachi University Business School which was led by Dr. Asma Tabassum.
The judges analyzed and accepted the importance of an innovative product formulated by utilizing seaweeds from Karachi Coast with special focus on its impact on the lives of people, and agriculture sector. The organic plastic will be dissolved in the land and will raise its fertility also. Moreover UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Zafar gave away a cheque of Rs. 1 lack to the 1st position holder of DICE business Idea exhibition”. “KU students are always prepared to face the challenges of the contemporary world and they have proved themselves in every field”, said VC Dr. Ajmal Khan while congratulating the students.
