Lahore, March 09, 2019 (PPI-OT): The 33rd Annual Art Exhibition and 16th National Art Exhibition 2019 of artworks by the Artists Association of Punjab opened at Alhamra Art Gallery on Saturday. This exhibition is a unique blend of old and young generation of artists that depict the ample picture of our society. The exhibition has been organized by the association in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of Arts, Lahore Arts and Punjab Council of Arts.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was Chief Guest of the opening ceremony while Chairman Artists’ Association of Punjab and National Artists’ Association of Pakistan Mian Ijaz ul Hassan, Ghulam Mustafa, Shehla Farooq, Amjad Iqbal, former LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar, a large number of people including artists, students and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion. Around 300 artworks by the artists from across Pakistan were displayed in this mega art show. Before the inauguration of the exhibition, a brief introductory session on the exhibition was held.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar lauded the artists for putting on display wonderful works. He said that artists are extra-ordinary human-beings who portray the true picture of society through their artistic skills. He said that such events are a must to highlight the soft image of the country around the globe. Governor Punjab appreciated the Artists’ Association of Punjab for holding this mega exhibition on regular basis.
Addressing the audience, Artists Association of Punjab chairman Mian Ajazul Hassan said the exhibition had been divided into three sections, old maestros, general section and subject of terrorism. He said the exhibition aimed at introducing old maestros’ works to the young generation and to connect people with visual art. He said that the artists are sensitive souls and they depict socio-political scene of their society through their artworks.
Shehla Farooq said that while commenting on the exhibition said that the art show is, in fact, a chain to connect with the glory of the past through the works of maestros and to also on the present while pinning hope on the future. She said that the yearly art show provided a great opportunity to the young artists to observe the trends in art. Ghulam Mustafa, secretary general of the Artists Association of Punjab highlighted the aims and objectives of the exhibition. The exhibition would remain on display for a week.
