Karachi, February 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): Ignoring the data science education will not be possible in future, it is the time to realize its importance in Pakistan and a clear guideline about this subject be provided to our teachers and students, furthermore the scope of Data Science be expended up to the schools level for the benefit of millions of our students. These views were expressed by Project Directors, Allied Group of the Schools, Dr. Shahid Mehmood while addressing to the inaugural session of 1st three day International Conference on Data Science as chief guest, yesterday.
The Conference was organized by Computing and Engineering Faculty, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi (MAJU) at University campus. Those who addressed to the opening session of the conference were included President, MAJU Dr. Zubair Shaikh, Chairperson, Dr. Asim Imdad and Coordinator of the conference Dr. Tafseer Ahmed. Addressing to the Conference, Dr. Shahid Mehmood emphasized that in order to encourage Data Science education preparation of a comprehensive syllabus and training teachers be given due importance. He said that presently those nations are economically prosperous who are very good in mathematics and Japan is a clear-cut example.
He said that it is the responsibility of the universities to promote research culture in the country and besides conducting research on major issues; research is also conducted on minor issues faced by the society. He congratulated President, MAJU and his team for organizing international conference on Data Science successfully. He said that under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Zubair Shaikh, MAJU is emerging one of the best university of the country.
Addressing to the conference, President, MAJU said that Data Science has an interdisciplinary field, deals with processes and systems that are used to extract knowledge or insights from large amount of data. He said that Data extracted can be either structured or unstructured because it is a continuation of data analysis fields like data mining, statistics and predictive analysis. Chairperson of the inaugural session Dr. Asim Imdad told that in all 71 research papers were received for this conference out of which only 18 papers and 6 posters have been selected. Dr. Noman Islam of Iqra University, Dr. Tariq Mehmood of IBA, Dr. Abdul Samad of Habib University , Dr. Tahir Syed of FAST and Dr. Kamran Azim of MAJU read their research papers on the 1st day of this conference.
