YPDC holds seminar on Youth and Political Dynamics in the Digital Age

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): With the aim to discuss the dynamics of youth’s role in politics and the problems posed by misinformation in today’s digital age, the Young Peace and Development Corps (YPCD-UOL Chapter), recently conducted a session on “Youth and Political Dynamics in the Digital Age” at UOL, Defence Road Campus.

Mr. Ammar Yasir (Lecturer\Activist) and Ms. Aisha Saeed (Journalist/Policy Analyst) were the guest speakers of the session that was attended by university lecturers, administrators and students. Mr. Yasir highlighted some of the important and relevant aspects of “Youth and Education” and spoke upon Post- Colonial stance. In his remarks, he cited The Pathology of Normalcy by Erich Fromm and gave a standpoint that led to a Q/A session with the audience.

Ms. Saeed in the second half of the session, enlightened the audience by discussing misinformation and disinformation as a social problem in current society. She also elaborated the experience of social media and its effects to be highly heterogeneous, raising questions about the generalizability of experimental estimates.

The event was wrapped up by the vote of thanks given by Miss Afnan Abdul Ghaffar (President, YPDC, UOL). She said, “YPDC-UOL Chapter looks forward to organizing such insightful and thought-provoking sessions, tackling multiple social problems in the present dynamics of contemporary Pakistan in the coming times”.

VCAN Society conducts learning via games’ fest for youngsters

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): Recently, the Society of Voices of Children’s Aspirations and Needs (VCAN) hosted an event titled as, “Punjab Children Fest” (PCF) for the school children which aimed at boosting their confidence and shaping them for excellence in their future. The youngsters from different schools including the Trust School, Laps School, Mazen School and Ilm Power Centre participated in the event.

Mr. Qasim Ihsan (Incharge of Clubs and Societies), Mr. Naeem Zafar (Pioneer of VCAN Pakistan and Pehchan) and Ms. Mehak Naeem (Pioneer of VCAN Pakistan and Pehchan) were the chief guests of the two-day event which was divided into indoor and outdoor games and other activities.

The indoor activities included Talent Hunt, Spelling Bee, Science Project Presentations, Painting, Sketching and Ludo while outdoor activities had Cricket, Tug of War, Badminton, Scavenger Hunt and Marathon Race. At the end, the winners and runners-up received medals and certificates while the Delegation Trophy was given to the Trust School, based on their maximum participation and victories.

IECE concludes SDG-12 reporting consultancy with WWF Pakistan

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Integrated Engineering Centre of Excellence (IECE) has successfully concluded a Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12) reporting mechanism consultancy worth USD 12,000 with WWF Pakistan. This agreement was initiated between Dr. Aazir Khan (Director, IECE) and Mr. Hammad Naqi Khan (Director General, CEO, WWF Pakistan).

Dr. Aamir Khan (HoD, Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Zeeshan Rafique (Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering) and Mr. Saad Amjad (HoD, IECE Industry 4.0) were also included in the consultancy team from IECE. The consultancy included development of indicators for SDGs 12.2, 12.4 and 12.6 ensuring sustainable consumption and production for enterprises and SME organizations.

For this purpose, IECE developed a nationwide secure reporting dashboard which will be promoted by WWF and the Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan and will be used by the industries to report indicator data. It is pertinent to mention here that this project is part of IECE Industry 4.0 initiatives as well as part of the green technologies development.

College of Medicine and Dentistry unveils new journal for research products

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Medical journals play an important role in spreading medical knowledge and provide a platform to share important research with the rest of the medical community. In order to facilitate the medical scholars in publishing their research works, the University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) launched a journal branded as “Journal of University College of Medicine and Dentistry (JUCMD)” under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood Malik (Pro-Rector, Health Sciences) and Prof. Dr. Mahwish Arooj (Principal, UCM).

The JUCMD is a bi-annually and peer reviewed publication with open access accepting original and innovative research articles in all areas of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Biological Sciences and Allied Health Sciences. The journal aims at publishing and providing a platform to researchers aligned with the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, PMC and HEC guidelines to facilitate them with all health professionals at no cost.

The Journal is comprised of six sections i.e. editorial, original articles, review articles, case report/ case series, short communication and a student corner for their research work. The first issue of JUCMD was launched online on January 18, 2022 and is available through the web link https://sites2.uol.edu.pk/journals/jucmd while its printed version is in the printing process.

Young Peace and Development Corps conducts Inter-Provisional Dialogues

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Young Peace and Development Corps (YPDC-UOL Chapter) and YPDC-University of Malakand Chapter co-organized an Inter-Provisional Dialogues of the Chapters, pertaining gender equality and women empowerment through the prism of inter-provincial dialogue at University of Malakand.

The main objective of the session was to promote the culture of gender equality and measures of how to end all forms of discrimination against women. Mr. Jamil Anwar Abbasi (Director, Office of Student Affairs, University of Malakand) conducted the session that was attended by around 45 students from both the chapters.

The session stressed on the promotion of a culture of gender equality and how to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women. The speakers also highlighted the need to promote women’s full and effective participation in leadership at all levels of decision-making.

Both the YPDC Chapters discussed on how to make practical and effective use of this platform to achieve women rights and women empowerment in Pakistan. The members of YPDC-UOL from different cultural backgrounds expressed their ideas and thoughts. YPDC UOL met Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmed (Vice Chancellor of Malakand University) who appreciated the idea of inter-provisional dialogues of the chapters.

UOL expresses solidarity with Kashmir through debates and literary competition

Lahore, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): Pakistan observes February, 5 annually as Kashmir Day with the aim to express solidarity with the people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK). To commemorate the sacrifices of the valiant people of IOJK and to express support to the struggles of Kashmiri brethren, the University of Lahore’s Debating Society hosted “Declamations and Essay Writing Competitions” on February 4, 2022 at Defence Road Campus.

Several groups of students took part in the competition which was divided into two parts i.e. essay writing competitions and declamations. The contestants wrote essays on the topic of “Kashmir is the lifeline of Pakistan” while declamations in both Urdu and English were presented on “It’s better to die fighting for freedom than to live in chains”. Mr. Qasim Ihsan (In-charge, Clubs and Societies) was the chief guest of the event. He highlighted the importance of Kashmir Day and appreciated the participants for their tremendous performance during the event.

Ms. Zainab Naeem (DDNS, 9th Semester) Arooj Khakwani (BS English Language and Literature, 3rd Semester) won Urdu and English essay writing competitions respectively while Ms. Umama Mubeen (DPT, 5th Semester) and Ms. Areesha Khalil (Audiology, 2nd Semester) bagged 1st position in English and Urdu declamations respectively. The closure of the event was marked by a walk in the university’s premises to express solidarity with the people of IOJK.
