CEO Punjab Rural Support Programme Abid Saeed visited UVAS 

Lahore, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Executive Officer Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP) Mr Abid Saeed visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad here in City Campus. Meanwhile a detailed meeting was held in syndicate room with Mr Abid Saeed. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and chaired the meeting while Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Director Institute of Continue Education and Extension Dr Qurban Hussain, Dr Sanaullah Bhatti and other senior faculty members and officers were present.

During meeting Mr Abid Saeed sought suggestion, discussed various areas of collaboration with UVAS. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad suggested work for the development of UVAS Business Incubation Center, rural woman empowerment, internship of graduate students, livestock farming community profitability in collaboration with PRSP.

He also spoke about the history of UVAS, various degree programme, diploma and short training courses conducting other campuses of UVAS. All the participants of meeting suggested collaborative areas related to youth entrepreneurship, curriculum development for the mobilization of livestock farming community. Abid Saeed said it is direly needed to work for the awareness of livestock farming community for their profitability and entrepreneurship of students to promote socio economic impact.

First meeting of the sub-committee of Standing Committee on The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education, Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture held 

Islamabad, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The first meeting of the sub-committee of the Standing Committee on The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education, Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture under the supervision of Higher Education Commission (HEC) was held on Tuesday at the New Campus of the International Islamic University (IIUI).

It was chaired by Member National Assembly Mehnaz Akbar Aziz. The meeting was attended by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIU Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi Vice Chancellor of more than 30 universities from all over the country. The meeting discussed issues related to improving the quality of education, issues being faced by the universities, the linkage between industry and education, role of Higher Education Commission and policy making for the betterment of the education sector.

Speaking in the meeting, Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz said that the solution of the problems of the education sector is the top priority of the committee. She said that the society was facing problems like unemployment and lack of quality education. She furthered that Vice Chancellors have a key role to play in the promotion of higher education and Higher Education Commission can also play its pivotal role in this regard. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz said that modern challenges can be overcome only by raising the standard of education.

She opined that a separate meeting would be held to hear the problems of private and medical universities. She vowed that the report of this meeting would be prepared on a priority basis with full transparency and all the problems, suggestions and proposed solutions will be included in this report that shall be presented in the parliament and it shall be submitted to the Premier as well. Honourable MNA said that the committee will ensure positive role of the commission in improvement of the quality of education in addition to solution of the and financial issues of the universities.

Participant Vice Chancellors briefed the NA body on financial issues. The participants of the meeting suggested that a national policy on open distance learning be formulated in the country. The heads of the universities said that there was an ultimate need of linkage between industry and academia.

The meeting agreed that universities should find ways to make the most of their resources with initiatives such as monetization of lands. On this occasion, the heads of public sector and private universities also briefed the committee on the issues of funding and adoption of graduate policy of higher education.

Later, the convener of the committee Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz met the teachers of different universities at the male campus of IIUI. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz and her team listened to the problems faced by the faculty and also collected suggestions for improvements in this regard. Matters such as quality research, plagiarism policy and faculty development were discussed in the meeting with the faculty members.

During the meeting, teachers were heard on a number of issues including setting up day care centers for female teachers. On this occasion, the committee also met the student representatives of universities from all over the country at the female campus. On the occasion, Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz vowed that she would not leave any stone unturned to ensure quality education to the youth. She said youth is a ray of hope and added that the committee will ensure its productive role to facilitate the students. It is pertinent to mention here that the committee shall hold its coming meetings in the provinces respectively.

Air University organizes 2nd International Conference on Physics 

Islamabad, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Air University, has organized 2nd ‘Two Days International Conference on Physics’, during which renowned scholars and professors from Canada, Italy, Sweden, Australia, China, Iraq and other international countries expressed their views with a focus on renewable energy sources, nano-technology, magnetic, thermoelectric and ferroelectric materials. Theoretical, modelling, simulation and medical applications of Physics. The conference’s keynote talk, according to the organizer Dr. Mozaffar Hussain, Chair of the ICP 2022 and Chair Department of Physics, focused on contemporary needs on physics research.

Renowned scientist Dr. Samar Mubarakmand, who was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, lauded the Air University’s initiative to organise the international conference providing a remarkable opportunity of knowledge sharing among scholars in the fields of Physics. Sharing his life experiences with participants, he said that knowledge of Physics is essential to every field; may it be education, healthcare or defense. In his address, he further said that Pakistan has immense reserves of a large number of minerals and natural resources that include coal, gold, copper, chromites, iron ore, and many others. “However, 95percent of minerals are still unexplored in Pakistan,” he stated, while urging the need to give due importance to the mining industry for boosting the national economy.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Air University Air Marshal (Retd) Javaid Ahmed, in his welcoming address, acknowledged the contributions of the Department of Physics for promoting the research culture. While calling the Chief Guest Dr. Mubarakmand a national icon, he said that: “We are honoured to have such a legendary and veteran scientist among us.” According to him, there is much to learn from his outstanding achievements, professionally as well as leadership qualities. “We are highly grateful for his contributions for making the defence of our beloved homeland unconquerable,” the VC said.

The Vice Chancellor, while urging students to explore new avenues in the context of the digital era, has advised that Physics opens doors to most exciting, cutting-edge, rewarding career opportunities across the globe. According to him, one of the major lessons Air University learned during the pandemic Covid-19 is the importance of online education and distance learning. “The theme of the conference is very close to our hearts,” he said, hoping that several issues related to renewable energy, climate change and global warming would be addressed during the two-day conference. He also announced that all the campuses of varsity are going to be solar in near future.

The Vice Chancellor further said that Air University is collaborating with the Government of Pakistan for a project of water conservation and distribution management based on modern techniques of satellite imaginary and artificial intelligence. “Air University is always supportive in research and innovation through our modest efforts,” he further said, adding that “We have consequently improved our rankings as we are currently ranked 15th in the QS Ranking and 6th in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking.”

Dr. Mozaffar Hussain, Chairman Department of Physics, said that the conference’s keynote talk would be focused on contemporary needs on physics research. According to him, the most interesting applications are in electronic circuits, resistive random-access memories, high-frequency systems, power generating devices, environmental remediation, drug delivery, diagnostics, hyperthermia treatment, biotechnology, and data storage.

Dr. Asghari Maqsood, and other distinguished speakers also emphasized the importance of quality education, urging students to focus on research in their respective fields of interest. The ceremony was attended by scholars, delegates, students, deans and directors of the Air University. A lively Q and A session was also held in which participants asked different questions related to the topics covered.

IBA Karachi and Sumitomo Corporation ink an MoU to facilitate meritorious students 

Karachi, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi and the Sumitomo Corporation signed an MoU to financially support aspirational students in their academic journey. The agreement was signed by Executive Director, IBA Karachi, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi and General Manager, Pakistan Office, Sumitomo Corporation Asia and Oceania Pte Ltd, Mr. Kazuteru Mihara on behalf of Sumitomo Corporation.

Participants included, Mr. Shahzad Ali, Assistant General Manager, Sumitomo Corporation Asia and Oceania Pte Ltd and Ms. Malahat Awan, Director, Alumni Communications and Resource Mobilization (ARC), IBA. The objective of this agreement is to nurture and foster the education of capable young leaders attending the Institute, who shall be entrusted with the future of Pakistan. The corporation will support 3 MBA students each year. The selected students will receive individual grants to cover their tuition fees.

Sumitomo Corporation is one of the largest global general trading companies, working towards making education accessible for deserving and ambitious students. This MoU will create opportunities for local students to attain the financial support needed to pursue their educational goals.

UVAS arranged seminar on “Current Challenges and Future Prospects of Poultry Business”

Lahore, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Poultry Production of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged seminar on “Current Challenges and Future Prospects of Poultry Business” under Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme at Prof Dr Akram Educational Complex Ravi Campus Pattoki on Tuesday.

Chief Executive Officer Pasban Poultry and Roshan Feeds Mr Rana Ghulam Sabir, General Manger Marketing Pasban Poultry Dr Muhammad Faheem were the resource persons of the seminar while Chairman Department of Poultry Production Dr Shahid Mehmood and number of students attended seminar. In the seminar Mr Rana Ghulam Sabir delivered a detailed lecture on poultry entrepreneurship as a professional career while Dr Muhammad Faheem spoke about the poultry marketing business opportunities and challenges.

BARD Foundation establishes DESCON Endowment Fund at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology 

Swabi, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Bilquis and Abdul Razak Dawood (BARD) Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) to establish a DESCON Endowment Fund. This fund will be available to both male and female students from underprivileged backgrounds enrolling in GIK Institute from September 2022.

The MoU signing ceremony was graced by Chairman, Board of Governors BARD Foundation Abdul Razak Dawood, along with other BoG Members Faisal Dawood and Farooq Nazir. GIK Institute was represented by its Rector Professor Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (SI), Pro-Rector (Academic) Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan, the Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Dr. Khalid Rahman and Director Finance Shahid Farooq.

“At BARD and Descon, we firmly believe that industry-academia collaboration enhances knowledge, innovation and plays an integral part in the economic growth of developing countries. The objective of our endowment funds is to empower students from underprivileged backgrounds to acquire the right set of technical skills and knowledge so their talent is channelized in the right direction,” said Abdul Razak Dawood.
