Eman Manzoor, a UOL trained female engineer works at Tarbela, striking the ideal work-life balance

Lahore, May 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):From tweaking the tiny microchips to designing robust electric motors, women engineers have played an invaluable role in influencing the world that we live in today. Women have paved their distinctively unique way in largely male-dominated engineering industry, accomplishing incredible feats. Ms. Eman Manzoor, hailing from the University of Lahore, is one of those successful female engineers who have proved that women can overcome tremendous obstacles and breakthrough discriminatory barriers to achieving their dreams.

Ms. Manzoor started her MS in Electrical Engineering at UOL in 2017. “Starting my MS Electrical Engineering degree at UOL was a fresh start to my journey of accomplishing my goals, and the outcomes surfaced right in the first semester with a GPA of 4.0”, she zealously mentioned.

Her journey took an avid turn when she cleared her NTS test and was appointed as Junior Engineer at Tarbela Dam in September 2017. “Theoretical power system optimization, protection, and control systems paved the way for me to enter the field by clearing NTS. Subsequently, I got appointed at Pakistan’s profound organization, WAPDA, and got posted at Tarbela Dam”, she narrates.

At Tarbela Dam, Ms. Manzoor is part of the team that is maintaining and operating 14 electricity generating units, handling the sound operation of all power transformers and excitation transformers, and ensuring the effective working of the current transformers. Ms. Manzoor and her team go above and beyond their capacity to vigilantly perform all the duties, leaving no room for any sort of fault.

Working at Tarbela Dam alongside her studies was not a piece of cake for Ms. Manzoor. She explained her struggle with juggling work and study in the following words: “5 days of work at Tarbela, then travelling almost 450 km to Lahore to attend classes on Saturdays and Sundays, and then again travelling for almost 8 hours to Tarbela to appear for duty on Monday.”

Ms. Manzoor completed her degree from UOL in June 2020 and she is pursuing her career as a professional engineer at the biggest power station in Pakistan. Nothing stopped her from advancing on the path of success, not even her marriage.

All the efforts, trials, and tribulations made Ms. Manzoor strong enough that now she is balancing her work and family life with ease and perfection. “If you are determined and passionate about your work, then you can manage to strike a balance between family and career,” she said.

Messages from Female Staff, Faculty

Lahore, May 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Farwa Batool (Senior Lecturer, School of Integrated Social Sciences)

Women in no way are inferior to anyone. The only thing we need to fight is the system. It should not be an us vs them debate. Nations rise by lifting each other. Be kind and supportive towards women as much as you can.

Dr. Sania Muneer (Assistant Professor, School of Integrated Social Sciences)

Female is the second sex not only in Pakistan but in all other countries too. Whether she is from the west or the eastern part of the globe, she has been harassed, raped, and become the victim of violence. As far as women’s empowerment is concerned, it’s only women who can stand for their own rights.

Zareen Hassan (Admin Officer, ORIC)

Women are never weak because God has made them strong in every sense. We do not need magic to transform our world. We already carry inside ourselves all of the power we need. We should stand for ourselves. It is only we who can protect our rights.

Dr. Arooj Fatima (Assistant Professor, UIPT)

Being a woman itself is a blessing and a superpower. A woman is the epitome of happiness, strength, and patience. She can do many things that a man can’t do. Let us pave our way to a better future, grow stronger and bring our positive energies to make the generation stronger and the nation brighter. Respect and facilitate every woman around you!

Aimon Saleem (Lecturer, Chemistry)

I am not asking women to have power over men. They should instead empower themselves for their good. There is nothing in this world we cannot achieve; all can be done by just helping an unknown and making a difference in her life.

Dr. Filza Shoukat (Assistant Professor, UIPT)

There is no limit to what we, as women, can achieve. We are the future, so let’s make ourselves strong and independent. Admire yourselves, empower your girls and rise and shine.

Dr. Faiza Sharif (Assistant Professor, UIPT)

A strong woman knows that she has enough strength for the journey, but a woman of strength knows that it is on the journey that she will become strong. Women are the future, so let us celebrate the strong, independent, and wonderful ladies in our life.

Azka Tahir (Semester 6, BS International Relations)

On this women’s day, I am hopeful that women all around Pakistan will not be ridiculed for standing up for their rights. I wish them to be seen as equal individuals who get equal rights and opportunities. Women constitute more than 50% of the population and deserve to be treated with the utmost respect.

Asma Tabasum (MPhil, Media Studies)

The importance of a women’s contribution cannot be cherished and appreciated in a single day. Cheers to a woman who never stopped trying one more time.

Sidra tul Muntaha (10th semester, Optometry Sciences)

Women are the key to sustainable development and quality of life in the family. The varieties of roles the women assume in the family are those of wife, leader, administrator, manager of family income and last but not the least important the mother. Moreover, it is the women who have sustained the growth of society and molded the future of nations. In the emerging complex social scenario, women have a vital role to play in different sectors. They can no longer be considered as mere harbingers of peace but are emerging as the source of power and symbol of progress.

Anoosha Naeem (Program Coordinator, the Innovation Hub)

To all the incredible women in the world, shine on, not just today but every single day. Happy Women’s Day.
