86% Pakistanis believe two to four children to be the ideal number for a family. 37% believe four or more to be the optimal number: Survey

Islamabad, March 16, 2018 (PPI-OT): According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, more than 3/4th Pakistanis (86%) believe two to four children to be the ideal number for a family. 37% believe four or more to be the optimal number.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “How many children should be there in an ideal household?” In response to this question, 4% said one, 29% said two, 29% said three, 28% said four, 6% five, 2% said six, 1% said the more the better and 1% did not know or wish to respond.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1673 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, January 28 – February 03, 2018. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
