2nd International Youth Entrepreneur’s Summit 2023 concludes at SUCL with call for business angels and technopreneurship

Jamshoro, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan may achieve economic growth and stability if the concept of business angles and technopreneurship is introduced at grassroots level with proper coordination of business entrepreneurs, academics and government. This was the major point of focus at the concluding session of the 2nd International Youth Entrepreneurs’ Summit 2023 held at the main auditorium hall, Sindh University Campus Larkano.

Speaking as the Key Note speaker SUCL Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Azhar Ali Shah said that Europe and other advanced countries are taking benefit of business angles who are successful business persons in their respective field with plenty of resources along with skills and experience and they invest part of their assets and experience to help the young entrepreneurs establish new business creating more employment opportunities and also once established they themselves become the business angles creating an infinite wave of entrepreneurs growth. Dr Shah said that government needs to introduce policies and incentives to create business angel environment across the country.

Dr Majid Buledi from Turkey talked about entrepreneur’s digital path: towards successful business establishment. Dr Buledi explained the technopreneurship Process for designing developing and integrating technology tools in business. He talked about impact of mobile phones on business and cited Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, ChatGPT and Advertising on TV for digital marketing.

During the penal discussion Mr Ahmed Ali Shaikh President Chamber of Commerce Larkano invited all business students to coordinate with chamber of commerce for all sort of help required to establish new business. He said that this event be held every year for the guidance of youth. Our youth is facing big problem regarding employment opportunities. Youth may search for job but should start the side business as well. For successful business you need to be member of chamber of commerce and conduct business as per national and international standards. Youth may apply globally to be part of multinational business organizations.

Dr Masiullah Jatoi, Professor of Management Sciences from Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur said that our youth have to engage in business in such a way to change their surrounding environment and be an inspiration for other entrepreneurs. He urged the government to provide financial support for youth entrepreneurs. Such support shall create job opportunities for others transforming our society towards prosperity. Youth has multiple potentials and they need support from family, friends and senior entrepreneurs. At present Pakistan is at 136 number in terms of entrepreneurship and this situation may be improved with collective efforts.

Ms Naghma Mazari, Incharge Women Protection Cell Larkano encouraged female youth to engage as entrepreneurs because government is providing all sorts of services needed for safe and secure environment. Mr Liaquat Ali Shaikh CEO ARY Jewellers Larkano said that we are witnessing the digital era and technology has always been enabler for growth of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is something that all of us must focus on as an immediate means for financial growth and stability of our family and society. Irrespective of our education and qualification we all may engage in entrepreneurship as it’s based on learning by doing.

Mr Vishal Parchani CEO Moon Electronics Larkano said that youth must move forward from their comfort zone and be ready for taking risks. The more the risk you take the more the benefit. Start with anything meagre that is in your approach. All big business and companies started out of nothing with very little investment and resources and now they are operating globally. Mr Abdul Wahid Shaikh Vice President Chamber of Commerce Larkano said that future of entrepreneurship is going to be more and more online. Universities should coordinate with SMEDA to help the youth deploy their business plans. He offered provision of training and help for young entrepreneurs specially girls.

The concluding session was moderated by Head of Business Department Mr Ghulam Mustafa Shaikh with the help of Ms Shagufta Shaikh, Mr Ali Mustafa Abro, Mr Athar Ali and Chief Organisers including Mr Abdullah Tunio, Shafiq Soomro, Sheharyar Abbasi, Alam Khan, Hina, Muskan, Sania, Aleeza and others.

ISSI hosts Roundtable with Heads of Missions of Central Asian Republics and Azerbaijan

Islamabad, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): The China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized a Roundtable with the Heads of Mission of Central Asia and Azerbaijan. H.E. Mr. Atadjan Mamlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, led the CAR-Azerbaijan delegation. Other delegation members included: H.E. Mr. Aybek Usmanov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan; H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, Ambassador of Kazakhstan; Mr. Tamerlan Khalilov, charged’ Affaires of Azerbaijan; Mr. Saidjon Shafiev, Charge d’ Affaires of Tajikisan; and Mr. Melis Moldaliev, Counsellor Kyrgyz Republic.

Director General ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Chairman BoG Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, and members of the CPSC represented the ISSI side. Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director CPSC, in his introductory remarks, briefed the delegation on the mission and working of ISSI. He also highlighted Pakistan’s cultural and trade ties with Central Asian states and Azerbaijan.

Warmly welcoming the delegation, DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood underscored Pakistan’s deep historical and cultural links with Central Asia and Azerbaijan and the efforts underway to further fortify these ties. He highlighted Pakistan’s ‘Vision Central Asia’ policy and its 5-pronged focus on deepening political and diplomatic; trade and investment; energy and connectivity; security and defence; and cultural and people-to-people relations. He added that, besides history and culture, the key driver of this policy was Pakistan’s pivot to geo-economics.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood underscored the pivotal importance of regional connectivity and stressed that Pakistan provided the shortest access to the sea to Central Asian states. Adding that both sides were working on enhancing ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ connectivity, he inter alia suggested that Pakistan and Central Asian states and Azerbaijan should establish a network of think-tanks, for which the Institute of Strategic Studies offered its platform. This will help to reinforce and advance the shared goals in various domains.

The Ambassadors/Heads of Mission, in their respective interventions, welcomed the initiative to hold the Roundtable and agreed with the overall objective of upgrading bilateral ties in diverse fields and enhancing mutual engagement at the regional level. During the detailed exchanges in interactive session, valuable suggestions were made by the Heads of Mission to further increase high-level exchanges, strengthen business-to-business links, promote energy and communication projects, build academic and think-tank networks, and hold cultural exchanges on a regular basis.

It was also agreed to hold events to develop policy recommendations and suggest ways to enhance mutual awareness of the vast opportunities for increased collaboration between the two sides, on the bilateral plane and regionally. Subsequently, Chairman BoG Ambassador Khalid Mahmood delivered his concluding remarks, which were followed by presentation of ISSI publications to the delegation.

UVAS distributes Livestock among flood affected families

Lahore, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore under its Flood Relief and Assistance Campaign arranged livestock distribution ceremony at Para Veterinary Institute (PVI) Karor Lal Eason, Layyah (sub-campus of UVAS) under the initiative “Economic revival of flood affected families.” UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed presided over the ceremony while Assistant Director Livestock Layyah Dr Tariq Gudara, Convener UVAS flood relief campaign Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz, Principal (PVI) Dr Absar Ahmad Randhawa and number of staff members of UVAS and flood victim’s families were attended the ceremony.

While addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed said that UVAS has played national duty by providing veterinary services as well as community welfare services in different provinces (South Punjab, Sindh, Kp and Baluchistan) of Pakistan during flood 2022. He mentioned that today’s ceremony is in the continuation of UVAS flood relief campaign specially to uplift the economic status and potential of flood affected families.

During the ceremony, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad distributed dairy animals included cattle along with sheep and goats among flood affected families from Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Fazilpur, Rajanpur, Taunsa, Rojhan and Khairpur (Sindh). Dr Tariq Gudara appreciated the efforts of UVAS community work for the economically strengthen of the flood affected families. He thanked Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed for initiating such wortful community services.

Earlier, Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz briefed about UVAS flood relief and assistance campaign. He said that UVAS provided relief services along with goods (ration packets/mineral water, kitchen unit, cloths, blanket/quilts, seed packets, medicine, shelter, mosquito nets) along with other necessary items among flood affected families of total worth over 30 million rupees in transparent manner. Dr Absar Ahmed presented the vote of thanks.

PU: Ahmed Mushtaq Literary and Book Fair

Lahore, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Oriental College organized Ahmed Mushtaq Literary and Book Fair in its premises. On this occasion, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Ghulam Moinuddin Nizami, heads of departments, faculty members and students were present. In his address, Dr Nizami said that Punjab University Oriental College is the oldest institution in which such events are organized to provide opportunities for students to express their skills.

There were competitions of Ghazal, Nazm and Bait Bazi held among the students of universities and colleges in the event, while special discounts were given on the book stalls set up by various publishers.

PU RSGCRL organizes int’l conference

Lahore, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Remote Sensing, GIS and Climatic Research Lab (RSGCRL), National Center of GIS and Space Applications, Centre for Remote Sensing and Institute of Education and Research jointly organized 3-day international conference on ‘Remote Sensing, GIS and Climate Change: Applications, Strategies, Solutions and Education (RSGCC-23). The conference was attended by PHEC Chairman Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Professor Emeritus Dr Muhammad Nawaz, IER Director Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, Director RSGCRL Dr Zia Ul Haq, eminent researchers from Pakistan and abroad, faculty members and students. Speakers in the conference shared their experiences and research on various topics. They emphasized collective research work.

They appreciated the productive idea to provide a platform for researcher to present their research. Dr Zia ul Haq said that in the conference different activities included oral paper presentations, poster exhibition and competition, geospatial science and technology exhibition, workshops, panel discussions and tree plantation drive etc. were held. He said that more than 1000 researchers, academician, professionals and students from Pakistan and fourteen other countries participated in RSGCC-2023.

He said that the conference provided an opportunity to the participants to meet with the world renowned scientists, researchers, and academicians in-person to discuss research challenges and solutions, by unleashing and sharing new ideas and avenues, and this event provided opportunities to initiate joint projects and collaborations with industry and research institutes, working in Remote Sensing, GIS, Climate Change and allied research domains.

PU Library conducts training workshop

Lahore, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Library organized a hands-on training workshop on “HEC Databases especially IEEE Explore Challenge” in the Internet Lab of the Library in which Rashid Pervaiz Khan and Majid Lodhi from A and J Def Tek Consultants, Rawalpindi were the resource persons. Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars attended the workshop. Dr Usmani said that every researcher must equip himself with the latest tools of current era to produce effective research output.

The resource persons briefed the participants about the features of IEEE Explore database, free registration of 14 IEEE e-learning courses, to attempt 5th IEEE Quiz for Pakistan and about offer of 14 grand prizes for students who successfully attempt IEEE e-courses and Quiz. During training workshop 20 participants were also given special gifts from IEEE.
