All-Pakistan Women Universities Consortium organized the first Conference on Women in Leadership in Collaboration with HEC and British Council Pakistan

Rawalpindi, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): To celebrate International Women’s Day, the All-Pakistan Women Universities Consortium (APWUC) organized the first All Pakistan Women Universities Conference on Women and Leadership with the support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and British Council. The conference aimed to devise ways to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in Pakistan. Female Vice Chancellors from all seven member universities, including FJWU, Government College Women University Faisalabad, Lahore College for Women University, Government College Women University Sialkot, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Women University Swabi, and Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur, jointly organized the event.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor, FJWU, proposed a four-point agenda for the consortium, including focusing on sustainability, participatory approaches, identifying priority areas, and establishing clear structures for effective strategy building. She stressed the importance of young energies and synergies to ensure the consortium’s progress and sustainability. Dr. Irene Tracy, Vice Chancellor, University of Oxford, congratulated the female Vice Chancellors and informed about the measures they are taking in the UK to support British women. Dr. Rubina Farooq, Vice Chancellor, Government College Women University, Faisalabad, stressed on increasing women’s visibility on all important platforms to support each other, while Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor, Lahore College for Women University, emphasized the importance of keeping one’s ambitions high and fighting inner fears.

Dr. Rukhsana Kausar, Vice Chancellor, Government College Women University Sialkot, highlighted the need for a future roadmap in the form of specific universities and stressed that women are emotionally intelligent and can prove better managers, which they must utilize. Dr. Safia Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, highlighted the need for a bio-based innovative economy and stressed the importance of university-industry collaboration to make research more effective. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Vice Chancellor, Women University Swabi, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and putting universities on the path of innovation through business to support the national economy. Dr. Saiqa Imtiaz Asif, Vice Chancellor, Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur, pledged her full support for the consortium online.

Dr Shahnaz Wazir Ali from University also addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of devising effective strategies for the training of young female faculty recruited in the universities. Dr. Kanwal from the Home Economics Lahore stressed on the importance of building effective networks and collaborative team work to achieve the tasks at hand.

Professor Dr. Mahmood ul Hassan from HEC (Former Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University) and Dr. Sahista Naqvi applauded Dr. Saima Hamid’s vision for bringing together all the Vice Chancellors and highlighted the importance of effective coordination for devising a future roadmap and achieving the consortium’s goals. All involved Female Vice Chancellors unanimously agreed to prioritize areas and congratulated Dr. Saima Hamid for hosting the conference secretariat and appreciated her hard work and vision. The HEC and British Council offered their support in the form of technical, knowledge sharing, goodwill, and financial incentives.

The consortium will arrange a capacity-building project and a series of webinars and seminars in different member and non-member universities to make it more effective and meaningful. Challenges for Higher Education: Addressed at UOS

Sargodha, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Higher Education Commission, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmed, addressed an interactive session titled “Challenges for Higher Education: A way Forward” organized by the University of Sargodha. The event was held at the university’s main campus and was attended by senior faculty members, administrative officers and other distinguished guests.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, welcomed the distinguished guests and thanked them for gracing the University. He spoke about the university’s ongoing academic and research endeavour as well as his long-term objectives for enhancing the university’s reputation. He emphasized the importance of research and innovation in higher education and vowed that the university is committed to providing its students with the best possible education.

During his address, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmed emphasized the importance of education and the role of teachers, which he compared to that of prophets. He stressed that teachers have a crucial role to play in shaping the minds of students and preparing them for the future. He also highlighted the need for producing industry-ready graduates who can contribute to the development of the country’s economy. Dr. Mukhtar also highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities, industry, and the government to address challenges faced by the education sector in Pakistan. He pointed out that universities need to work closely with industry to ensure that their graduates have the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demands of the job market.

The speech was followed by a question-answer session, during which the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion with the distinguished guest. The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the guests as a token of appreciation for their participation in the interactive session.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s message on Punjab Culture Day

Karachi, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the culture of Punjab is most diverse and dynamic in its origin and the appeal. It is the land where five rivers merge into one by giving it a name of the Punjab.

According to the statement issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, Chairman PPP, in his message on the occasion of Punjab Culture Day, has extended greetings to people of the entire country including Punjab on the Culture Day. He said that culture is a great way to connect people and promote brotherhood in the society. “An individual or a nation living cut off from its culture remains incomplete,” he added.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that cultural diversity in Pakistan is the beauty and strength of our society which should be cherished and celebrated for more unified and strengthened Federation of Pakistan.

Pakistan Red Crescent, religious scholars, and academia vow to promote climate change adaptation and mitigation

Karachi, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) Sindh Branch with the support of German Red Cross (GRC) organized a stakeholder’s coordination meeting at Hotel Mehran Karachi on March 13, 2023, to discuss further activities in the ongoing second phase of the climate change adaptation program with various stakeholders, including religious scholars from different sects, academia, relevant government organizations and welfare organizations.

According to details, PRC-Sindh Provincial Secretary Kanwar Waseem thanked everyone for working together and said that the project’s first phase had been completed after a series of meetings and the signing of a joint declaration on climate change. “Now Pakistan Red Crescent is in the second phase of the Climate Change Program, and today we are here to discuss with our stakeholders about future activities through which we can effectively reach out to the public and preach the adaptation and mitigation measures to combat the negative effects of climate change in Sindh”, said the Kanwar Waseem.

Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab commended the PRCS for holding this follow-up meeting on climate change and said that the move showed the seriousness of the PRCS on the critical issue of climate change. Haji Maulana Tanveer-ul-Haq Thanvi and other scholars also vowed to perform their role effectively and create awareness among the people about the serious environmental issue. Professor Abid Raza Irfaani, Qazi Ahmed Noorani Siddiqi, Shayaan Shah, Akhlaque A. Qureshi, Zaffar Abbas and other participants also addressed the participants and share their opinion about climate change adaptation.

Ms. Iram Ayaz, Program Officer, also gave a presentation on the Climate Change Program’s planned activities, which included coordination meetings, reviews of sectoral policies and legislation, production of related awareness material, social media campaigns, and engagement of influencers to raise climate change awareness in Pakistan.
