Department of Psychology Organized Symposium on “Contemporary Trends in Psychology”

Islamabad, March 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): A symposium on “Contemporary trends in Psychology” was organized by Department of Psychology on 1st March 2023 from 11.00- 2.00 pm. The event organizers were Ms. Sadaf Zeb, (Senior Lecturer) and Ms. Ayesha Aneeq (Lecturer), in Psychology Department. The Guest speakers were Dr. Rubina Hanif, Dr. Sajida Naz, Dr. Saima Kulsoom and Dr. Rayna Sadia. All the eminent guests had versatile expertise and experiences in teaching, research, publications, and supervisions.

 

This educational program was mainly designed to educate and envision students about Contemporary trends in Psychology. The main objective of the event was to bring experts from various domains of Psychology on one platform and give our students an exposure of industry and practical fields. The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and a welcome note by Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar Farooq (HOD of English department) at Capital University of Sciences and Technology.

 

The Guest speakers provided extensive knowledge on the topic. Dr. Sajida Naz chose to talk about Post-COVID trends in Psychology and how we have grown personally and professionally after this immense change of life style. She highlighted topics such as work from home issues, kicking out stigmas, frontiers in neurosciences, and mental health of children.

 

Dr. Rubina Hanif focused on the concept of Digital Era and psychological challenges. She discussed topics including education in digital era, media skills of students, positive use of gadgets, artificial intelligence, social and emotional safety of young adults etc. Dr. Saima Kulsoom mainly highlighted recent advancements in Organizational Psychology.

 

She discussed recent trends in how organizational structures are now changing and focusing on including psychologists in every domain of an organization. Dr. Rayna Sadia made the session very interactive with the students by bringing in a quite new and interesting topic of Traffic Psychology.

 

She discussed issues like gender ratio in road accidents, role of authorities in issuing licenses to the drivers, assessment of personalities in making decisions about safety on the roads, and lastly individual responsibilities of people to make driving on the roads more peaceful and safe. Students took a lot of interest in her talk and enjoyed the interactive session.

 

Last 20 minutes were dedicated to a Question/Answer session by the students. The presenters very enthusiastically replied to all of them. The session ended with a vote of Thanks by Dr. Sabahat Haqqani and distribution of souvenirs among the guests by Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar Farooq.

32nd Meeting of Academic Council Held at Capital University

The Council discussed the Academic matters of the University and showed its satisfaction with the Academic operations. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Deans, HoDs, Faculty Members, and Support Staff for their devotion to academic excellence and cooperation. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair as well as the participants of the meeting.

LUMS Faculty Starts Fulbright Scholar Position at Stanford University

Lahore, March 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Jajja, Associate Professor at the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), has started a Fulbright Scholar position at the Graduate School of Business (GSB) at Stanford University. The Fulbright Scholar programme is highly competitive and one of the most prestigious postdoctoral fellowships worldwide.

 

Dr. Jajja has been associated with SDSB since 2014. He is an Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management, Director of the Executive MBA, and Founding Director of the MS in Supply Chain and Retail Management at SDSB. Prior to this, he served as Faculty Director at the Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC), LUMS.

 

At Stanford, Dr. Jajja will be conducting research on sustainability, technology, and innovation management issues in supply chains of developing countries. “At GSB, I am closely interacting with the newly launched Stanford Doer School of Sustainability.

 

After the completion of the fellowship, Fulbright scholars are expected to make a significant contribution to Pakistan’s development and share their US experiences with students, colleagues and community groups in Pakistan,” shared Dr. Jajja.

 

Talking about his current research interests, Dr. Jajja said that the key focus of his research at Stanford is the supply chain and adoption issues of battery electric vehicles. “This is the continuity of my research work at LUMS and in this area, I am also working with the University of California Berkeley and the University of California Davis.”

 

Dr. Jajja discussed how participating in this academic endeavour will enhance his role at LUMS. “Stanford University is located in the centre of the Silicon Valley which is the source and hub of the most leading technology companies in the world e.g., Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Tesla.

 

Being at Stanford gives you the opportunity to participate in the conversations related to and understand the most cutting-edge trends of technology, entrepreneurship, and business in the world.”

 

Discussing the differences and similarities between LUMS and Stanford, Dr. Jajja commented, “LUMS is the best in Pakistan and Stanford is the best in the world. It is amazing to be at a place which has one of the highest numbers of living Nobel laureates in the world.

 

Collectively the two universities in Silicon Valley i.e., Stanford and UC Berkeley have around 200 Nobel laureates, the largest geographic concentration of Nobel Laureates in the world!”

 

Dr. Jajja believes that LUMS offers a highly supportive atmosphere for faculty advancement and research. “LUMS has always expected and enabled its faculty members to deliver their best in research and this has enabled me to get a placement at Stanford University for a year.”

On the fourth day of BLCF 2023, several programs were organized including book launch, Hasb-e-Hal and Rubaru etc.

Bahawalpur, March 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): On the fourth day of the ongoing Bahawalpur Literary and Cultural Festival at the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, renowned anchor Junaid Saleem organized a special program on the theme of the positive effects of the famous program Hasb e Hall on the state of the people.

 

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Eng. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtasham Anwar, Deans, teachers, civil society and students were present in large numbers. On this occasion, Nawaz Anjum brightened up the party with a humorous conversation. Other participants included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahzad Rana, Mohsin Bhatti, Naseer Ahmad Nasir, Imran Javed, Anwar Grewal, Usman Khattak, Qaiser Majeed and Prof. Dr. Munir Azhar.

 

Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtasham Anwar’s book on environment awareness for children was launched. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum and Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha commented on the book. Assistant Professor Dr. Jam Sajjad Hussain organized a media conclave under the title Bol Ke Lib Azad Hain Tere.

 

Oriya Maqbool Jan, Gul e Nukhiz Akhtar, Mohsin Bhatti, Ashraf Sharif, Professor Shahid Naseem, Sajjad Jahania, Azhar Saleem Majuka, Shakir Hussain Shakir and Shaukat Ashfaq participated in the media conclave. Prof. Dr. Aftab Hussain Gillani had a conversation with famous cricketer Kamran Hussain from Bahawalpur and Pakistan Hockey Team Captain Umar Bhatta at the Program Sports Arena.

 

Renowned artist Shima Kirmani participated in a special workshop on performing art at the College of Art and Design. Khalilur Rahman Qamar had a conversation with the host Rana Farad Ahmed in the program. In the second Rubaru session, famous analyst Oriya Maqbool Jan commented on the current affairs with the host Shahid Afzal Durrani.

 

In the evening, a music concert was held in Abbasia campus with singer Falak Shabir in which thousands of students participated. Throughout the day, book exhibition, agricultural and industrial exhibition, flower exhibition, art exhibition, food court was crowded with students and guests from the city. The citizens and students of Bahawalpur have paid tribute to the Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and his team for the four-day celebrations in connection with Jashan Baharan.

 

Similarly, Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtasham Anwar and Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Ahmed Jappa also provided guidance and support in organizing this mega event. This four-day event brings out the ancient cultural traditions of Bahawalpur and is being organized better than ever for the third year in a row.
