CM Chaudhry Parvez Elahi lays foundation stone of Gulshan Ravi T-Junction underpass, Samanabad Morr underpass and cricket stadium projects worth Rs.7.53 billion

Lahore, January 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi laid the foundation stone of the Gulshan Ravi T Junction Underpass, Samanabad Morr Underpass and Samanabad Stadium projects on Tuesday. While addressing the ceremony, the CM asserted that Imran Khan is a true and honest leader. A genuine leader like Imran Khan is not found in Pakistan; he added and maintained that Imran Khan is taking every risk for the betterment and welfare of the people. Imran Khan was protected by Allah Almighty in the attack, he said.

Those who attacked Imran Khan, and those behind him, will be caught soon; the CM stated and added that the people need not worry because of Imran Khan. We know that Imran Khan is honest; that is why people are with Imran Khan, he added.

The CM said that Quaid-e-Azam used to speak English but the masses trusted him and understood him because he was honest. Imran Khan is also a great leader and honest like Quaid-e-Azam. Imran Khan has taken steps for the betterment of Pakistan. He said that PML-N will not be seen anywhere and only our work and PTI will be seen.

There is no blessing in the work of dishonest rulers as they lead to destruction. He said that Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif are cheaters and they have been engaged in cheating since the beginning. Sharif’s commit to avoiding anything good. Secondly, they don’t invest their money anywhere, only people’s money is used and when people ask for the return of their money from them, they don’t get it back. Shehbaz Sharif is skilled in the art of begging. Sharif’s government has now become a begging government, he added.

Parvez Elahi said that projects worth 20 billion rupees are being started in Lahore which will be completed in one year. A sports complex and a community center will be built in Samanabad. The government intends to control disarray in the provincial metropolis. The master plan of Lahore was planned while keeping in mind all the aspects.

The work on the master plan of Lahore started two years ago under the PTI government and open tendering was done while master planning was done by foreign companies. PML-N’s media cell is propagating against the master plan; he added and explained that agricultural and residential lands have been demarcated under the master plan which will help curb the rampant growth of Lahore, he further said.

The CM said that Rs.7.53 billion will be spent on the Samanabad Morr underpass, cricket stadium and Gulshan Ravi T Junction projects. The construction of the Samanabad Morr and Gulshan Ravi T Junction underpass will facilitate the flow of traffic.

People of Samanabad, Gulshan Ravi, Tauheed Park, and Multan Road, Chauburji, Chowk Yateem Khana and adjacent areas will have ease of transportation, he noted. The CM said that progress is being made to make Lahore an axis of construction and development and a world-class developed city. Under the master plan of Lahore, future construction activities in Lahore will be determined. He said that the Sumanabad cricket stadium is being constructed with 66 crore rupees for the youth, especially the cricketers. The construction of the cricket stadium will give the young players a chance to express their talent, he said.

He said that work has been started to solve the traffic problems by restoring Gulshan Ravi T Junction and Bund Road. Rs.4.84 billion would be spent to complete the restoration of Gulshan Ravi T Junction and Bund Road within eight months. Meanwhile, roads and sewerage repair and expansion work are in progress from Chauburji to Scheme Morr, LOS to Multan Road, Poonch Road, Ghazali Road, Qartaba Chowk, Babu Sabu Chowk, Bund Road and other roads. The completion of the projects will also reduce smog, and environmental and noise pollution, he concluded.

Senior Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal said that he is grateful to Chief Minister Parvez Elahi for showing generosity regarding the development of Lahore. Sharif’s have a big hand in polluting national politics. Sharif’s have taken their money out; they come to Pakistan only to mint more money. They failed to succeed in the Punjab Assembly.

Former federal minister Hammad Azhar said that during PTI’s 4-year tenure, unprecedented development work was done in Lahore. They are taking old loans from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other institutions in the name of helping the flood victims. Shehbaz Sharif’s trickery will not work anymore as economic problems cannot be solved with 8 billion dollars, he added. DG LDA also addressed the event.

Ticket holders, Secretary C and W, Secretary Information, Commissioner Lahore and others were also present. Earlier, Chief Minister Parvez Elahi laid the foundation stone of the Gulshan Ravi T Junction Underpass project and also initiated the project of restoration of the Bund Road. The CM laid the foundation stone of the Samanabad Morr Underpass project and also laid the foundation stone of the Samanabad cricket stadium.

Chief Minister Parvez Elahi said that the Gulshan Ravi T Junction underpass and Bund Road rehabilitation project will cost Rs.4.84 billion and the projects will be completed in 8 months. The construction of the Samanabad cricket stadium will cost Rs.66 crore. Chief Minister Parvez Elahi was briefed about the projects by Mian Aslam Iqbal and DG LDA.

PCB statement on Mickey Arthur 

Lahore, January 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed it has been in talks with former national team head coach Mickey Arthur with a view to appointing him as the head coach to guide the side through to the ACC Asia Cup, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

However, owing to his long-term contract with Derbyshire, we have also discussed a proposal to act as a consultant to the PCB on a time-sharing basis with Derbyshire. Unfortunately, however, this option is proving difficult to materialise for various reasons on both sides. Under the circumstances, the PCB will continue its search for the right person to fit the slot of the national team head coach and some top names are already under consideration.

UCMD promotes holistic student development with its multiple initiatives 

Lahore, January 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) endeavours to provide an organised and supportive learning environment that promote professional as well as personal growth of its students. In-line with its vision of holistic medical students’ training, UCMD not only restructures the entire curriculum but also organises academic events and offers on-ground professional training opportunities.

The college offers a contemporary integrated modular curriculum for the students of medicine and dentistry. The curriculum is based on the integration of basic sciences and clinical sciences. This integration places basic science learning in the context of clinical and professional practice due to which students consider it more meaningful and relevant.

One of the revolutionary ideologies in contemporary pedagogy is “student-centred teaching and learning,” which is already adopted at UCMD. This pedagogic approach is directed at the efficient grooming of its future physicians and surgeons.

The college is also giving students more control over their learning methods and pace of study. It has adopted efficient ways of employing student-centred teaching. Student-centred class activities such as small group discussions (SGDs) and problem-based learning (PBL) sessions are conducted to make students self-directed and lifelong learners.

With its vision of promoting quality, innovative, ethical, and evidence-based research for the advancement of knowledge and high-quality healthcare, it launched a Research Cell for its students and faculty. The Research Cell aims at giving impetus to impactful research within the students’ fraternity and their teaching faculty. The cell is designated to boost high-quality research through fellowship programmes at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP).

The health profession, with all its intricacies, demands that medics approach new situations, people, or experiences with confidence and a positive mind-set. One key element to nurturing such a mind-set is resilience in the education system, and this is exactly what was emphasized on November 3, 2022, during the International Conference on Health Professions Education (ICHPE).

The UCMD organized this conference in which international and national medics dispensed ideas of fostering resilience as a transversal skill, ensuring well-being of students and faculty. The conference introduced basic and applied concepts of medical education, which can help educators to acquire the ability to perform the basic functions of a medical teacher in an institute.

The college strives to offer its students a chance to demonstrate what they have learned on campus and to gain enough hands-on experience to be competitive in the job market. For this purpose, it continues to provide clerkship opportunities to its students and alumni. Up till now, UCMD has introduced varied practical initiatives that can lead to the holistic training of all its students and aims to continue to do so.

NUMS Department of Public Health Organized International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 

Rawalpindi, January 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):NUMS Department of Public Health organized International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2022, at National University of Medical Sciences, PWD campus on Tuesday, 27th December at 0900 Hrs.

Disability inclusion is an essential condition in upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. It is also central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind. The commitment to realizing the rights of persons with disabilities is not only a matter of justice; it is an investment in a common future.

This event was exclusively organized by the students of all batches of BSPH NUMS under the supervision of Dr Tamkeen Jaffrey (Associate Professor Public Health). They celebrated this day to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The ceremony was moderated by students of BSPH and began with a welcome note and recitation of Holy Quran. Students of all three batches played videos featuring independent living, inclusive education, barrier free and right-based society and access to justice for the person with disabilities.

They also prepared a video related to their visit to local NGO- Institute for Different-abled Young and Adults (IDYA). Posters focusing on right opportunities, personal choice, and community involvement for the disabled people were also displayed.

Mr Asim Zafar CEO Saaya Association was the guest speaker, graced the occasion by his presence, and appreciated the great potential and talent of students exhibited during the event. He also urged the importance of using respectful and positive terminology as it shows people with disabilities that they have a role in the community like everyone else in society.

He acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the members of department of Public Health in organizing the event and congratulated the Public Health team on the successful activity of International day of persons with disability.

The Head of Department Public Health Prof. Dr Uzma Hassan in her concluding remarks stressed upon the importance of the observance of this day as it aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disability. She expressed her gratitude to the Honourable guest for taking out the time to attend the event.

The HoD congratulated her team of Department of Public Health; Dr Tamkeen Jaffrey, Dr Hina Shan, Dr Raima Asif, Ms. Huzaifa Akram and Ms. Rubab Zulfiqar on their hard work and commendable job. Prof. Dr Uzma Hassan also appreciated all the students of BSPH for celebrating this day with full enthusiasm and working with full spirit for improving the ultimate status with the dignity of people with disabilities.
