LUMS Spreads Christmas Cheer

Lahore, December 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):A lively Christmas celebration was organised by the Office of Human Resources at LUMS, on December 16, 2022. The event was held in collaboration with the Office of Accessibility and Inclusion (OAI), Office of International Affairs (OIA), Centre for Business and Society (CBS), Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) and Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS).

The festivities were held outside the Executive Dining Hall and all staff members were invited to join in the celebration. Attendees were welcomed by the HR Office staff and Faisal Kheiri, Director HR. The event included fun activities and games; an exciting ‘Pass the Pillow’ game and a quiz, based on questions related to Christmas and interesting facts about LUMS and Lahore were played. The winners were presented with gift hampers.

Representatives from The Salvation Army Pakistan, Col. MacDonald Chandi, Col. Diana MacDonald, Lt. Col. Safdar Iqbal and Lt. Col. Asia Safdar also attended the celebration. Lt. Col. Iqbal and Col. MacDonald shared an inspiring message on the true essence of Christmas, inter-faith harmony and togetherness.

Dr. Alnoor Bhimani, Honorary Dean, Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of getting together and celebrating with Christian colleagues by appreciating their services and dedication towards LUMS. He also presented certificates of recognition to guests from The Salvation Army Pakistan.

This was followed by performances including a Christmas carol by Pepsi Dining Centre staff member, Ashraf Emmanuel and songs by Zeeshan Khalid, and Sinan Rajput. After a cake-cutting ceremony, a hi-tea was arranged by the Pepsi Dining Centre. The event concluded with a spirit of celebration and unity.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor inaugurates the Mewaki Forestry Project 

Lahore, December 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi inaugurated the Mewaki Forest Settlement Project at New Campus. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Registrar Raja Shahid Javed, RO-I Col (r) Umar Khalid, RO-II Jalil Tariq, Director Students Affairs Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, officers and students. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Asghar Zaidi said that the process of planting thousands of saplings on 2 acres of land behind Vice Chancellor’s house had been launched.

He said that PU administration was engaging its students in positive activities. He said that fruit trees were also being planted in Mewaki forest. He said that Mewaki forest was a reservoir of oxygen. He said that the project had also been aimed at providing a new home for birds. He said that the university was going to provide environment-friendly atmosphere to students, teachers and employees.

Punjab University introduces new mechanism for garbage disposal 

Lahore, December 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):A new mechanism for garbage disposal has been introduced in Punjab University, for which the administration has assigned the task to a private company for Rs 40,000/ per month. In this regard, a ceremony was organized outside VC office in which PU VC Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, Registrar Raja Shahid Javed, RO-II Jalil Tariq, RO-I Col (r) Umar Khalid and others participated.

In his address, Dr Asghar Zaidi said that PU would be able to save a handsome amount in terms of garbage disposal and this mechanism would also help janitorial staff in their duties. He said that the private company would collect the garbage from different places twice a day, seven days a week. He said that earlier the university staff had to deliver the garbage bags themselves.

He said that trolleys and diesel worth millions of rupees were used annually for daily delivery of garbage to the dumping site. He said that these resources would now be used for other works. He said that work has been started to improve the environment of PU further and this mechanism would be operated on trial basis for a period of two months.

Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi announces to give tehsil status to Mandi Shah Jewna 

Lahore, December 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Assembly members from Jhang Rai Taimur Bhatti and Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan called on Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and former federal minister Moonis Elahi at the Chief Minister’s Office.

The CM announced to give the status of a tehsil to Mandi Shah Jewna and added that this announcement has been made on the demand of Rai Taimur Bhatti and Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan. I thank Allah Almighty that I am serving the people every moment of my life; he said and hoped that this would improve the administrative affairs of Mandi Shah Jewna.

The educational, healthcare and other facilities will also improve, he added. Rai Taimur Bhatti and Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan thanked the CM for giving Mandi Shah Jewna a tehsil status. Rai Taimur Bhatti said that the people will always remember his decision. Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan said that the deprivations of the people will be removed. Provincial Minister Raja Basharat was also present.
