-Hasaranga, Neesham, Rajapaksa, Rashid, Shamsi and Wade to make HBL PSL debut in 2023

Karachi, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sri Lanka’s 2022 Asia Cup winning duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, England and Australia’s ICC T20 Men’s World Cup winners Adil Rashid and Matthew Wade, respectively, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Tabraiz Shamsi of South Africa will make their HBL Pakistan Super League debuts in the eighth edition of the tournament, which will be held across four cities from 13 February to 19 March 2023.

Hasaranga was picked up by 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators, 2017 winners Peshawar Zalmi scooped Rajapaksa, while Wade was chosen by 2020 champions Karachi Kings in the HBL PSL Player Draft 2023, which was held here on Thursday. The trio were picked in the Platinum Category.

In a 129-match T20 career, Hasaranga has claimed 182 wickets at an economy-rate of 6.71, while in 52 T20Is, the spinner has claimed 86 wickets. Hard-hitting batter Rajapaksa holds an identical strike-rate of 135 in 35 T20Is and 143 T20s, whereas Wade holds a strike-rate of 132 and 136 in T20I and T20 cricket, respectively.

Neesham, who was part of New Zealand’s squad for the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, became a Zalmi after impressing the franchise following his 2,934 runs in 217 T20 matches at a strike-rate of 142 and 688 runs in 60 T20Is at a strike-rate of 159.6. Multan Sultans lost Imran Tahir to Karachi Kings but roped in Adil Rashid, who has taken 93 wickets in 92 T20Is with an economy-rate of 7.42, while he has taken 255 wickets in 233 T20s at an economy-rate of 7.43.

Shamsi was picked by Karachi Kings. The left-arm wrist-spin bowler has played 59 T20Is in which he has taken 73, while he has bagged 225 wickets in 192 T20s. The three players were picked in Supplementary round.

The draft also saw three teenagers, who excelled at the Pakistan Junior League, picked by three different franchises. Mardan Warriors’ Aimal Khan was selected by Quetta Gladiators, Arafat Minhas of Gwadar Sharks was picked by Multan Sultans and Shawaiz Irfan of Bahawalpur Royals was selected by Lahore Qalandars.

The 36 foreign players picked up in the draft were from 10 T20I playing countries, including Afghanistan (five), Australia (three), England (10), Ireland (two), Namibia (one), New Zealand (four), South Africa (four), Sri Lanka (two), West Indies (four) and Zimbabwe (one).

Mock session on Sindh Provincial Assembly held 

Khairpur, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Mock Session on Sindh Provincial Assembly was organized by the Department of Political Science, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the session. The students of the Department participated as Members of Ruling and Opposition Parties.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari said that public opinion should be given priority for better governance. He said that Universities produce future leaders who are the main stakeholders for the development of the country and the nation. Dr. Lashari said that the purpose of such types of activity aimed at to apprise the students about the legislation process in the Assembly and the role of Assembly Members representing different constituencies about the problems confronting the masses.

Dr. Lashari said that under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, the co-curricular activities are in full swing at campus. The learning capacity of the students has been strengthened. Ms. Shahida Amir Chandio, Incharge Department of Political Science said that it is a matter of rejoice that the students of the Department of Political Science have the skills to play a better role in the future. She said that the students of Political Science Department will avail Internship Programs in Sindh Assembly.

She informed that the students of the Department of Political Science have also availed a visit of the Sindh Assembly while in the future the students will be given an opportunity to visit the National Assembly and the Senate as study trips. Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Director Post Graduate Studies said that for the betterment of the future, the youth should move forward according to the challenges of the time, especially the youth should take advantage of social media.

Mr. Ishrat Ali Mirani said that the youth have to play a role to resolve the problems faced by individuals in the society. This is the best practical model for political science students. Earlier, in the Model Assembly Session, the elected members of various constituencies gave a briefing on the measures taken during the recent floods and rains on health, education, agriculture and various sectors. Various question and answer sessions were also held on this occasion.

The Focal Person of this session of the Model Assembly was Mr. Akhlaq Ahmed Larik, while Mr. Ali Nawaz Soomro and others addressed the assembly. A large number of teachers and students participated in this session of the assembly. Sumbul Khakhrani performed the duties of speaker.

UE Holds 3rd International Conference on “Advances in Materials Science (AIMS2022)”

Lahore, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 3rd International Conference on “Advances in Materials Science (AIMS2022)” has been started at University of Education, Lahore on December 15, 2022, which will continue for two days. The scholars and scientists from, USA, UK, China, Germany, Malaysia, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Taiwan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Iraq are participating. More than 140 talks will be delivered by eminent scientists from all over the world in- person and through Zoom meetings. The conference was inaugurated with a ceremony, which was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Nasir Pasha (S.I.) while Rector, Virtual University Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (S.I., T.I.) was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Nasir Pasha (S.I.) said that the success of the previous Conferences motivated us to organize another Conference on bigger scale, which is a great step in the field of research. He said that with the help of progress in the field of material science, we can overcome the crises like energy faced by the world, especially Pakistan. Dr. Pasha said that the participation of renowned scientists from different countries in the world will benefit our young scholars immensely, for which we are also grateful to them.

The Chief Guest Rector, Virtual University Professor Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (S.I., T.I.) in his address congratulated the University of Education, Lahore for holding an international conference on this important topic. He said that the University of Education is playing its vital role in the field of research by organizing such a fruitful international conferences one after another.

Orientation sessions on HEC funded scholarships held at Turbat University

Turbat, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Turbat (UoT), in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, has organized orientation sessions on HEC-funded scholarships “Provision of Higher Education Opportunities for Students of Balochistan and FATA Batch-V” at UoT’s main campus and Faculty of Legal Education on 14th December 2022.

The students from different departments and affiliated colleges of Turbat University participated in the sessions. The HEC officials, Mr. Bahram Jan, Senior Project Manager HRD Division briefed the participants of the sessions regarding various aspects of the scholarship project in detail. He said that under this project, scholarships will be awarded to local/domicile of Balochistan and former FATA students for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in different national and international universities.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Changiz Ahmed, Assistant Professor, and focal person of the event requested the HEC authority to revisit the no third division condition in the entire career for award of scholarships for higher studies and faculty appointment at the university level, and upper age limit (35 years) issue for Ph.D. Scholarships in Law. Mr. Bahram Jan assured to convey these issues to the HEC policy-making authorities.

Ganguzar Baloch, Registrar, Ijaz Ahmed, Director of Public Relations, Meer Bahad, Protocol Officer, faculty members, and heads and teachers of different affiliated colleges were present on occasion. Later, the HEC officials called upon Prof. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor in his office. He thanked HEC officials for visiting Turbat University and conducting sessions on scholarships at their University.
