56th meeting of BISP Board of Directors in Islamabad chaired by Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program Ms. Shazia Marri 

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program Ms. Shazia Murree chaired the 56th meeting of the BISP Board of Directors in Islamabad on Thursday. The board approved the new mechanism for disbursing cash to BISP beneficiaries. Under the new system, eligible persons can get cash through an account opened in any scheduled bank.

The Board also approved the policy to include transgender women in the sponsorship program of BISP. Ms. Shazia Marri termed the approval of the Transgender Policy as a major achievement of the present government and urged the members of the Board of Directors to use their position and influence to mobilize this marginalized community, so that more a large number of transgenders can benefit from this policy.

He also told the Board of Directors that under the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Program, cash assistance of Rs. 70 billion has been distributed to 28 lakh families for the flood affected people. Ms. Shazia Murree appreciated the role of BISP and NADRA officials as well as partner banks who worked diligently during the distribution of flood relief assistance cash and said that more still needs to be done for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims.

The BISP board meeting approved the flood relief program and approved a new method for deserving women facing difficulties in biometric verification and also took important decisions regarding other institutional reforms. The BISP board also approved a grant of Rs 20 lakhs for employees who die on duty, Rs 20 lakhs for grades 1 to 8, 50 lakhs for grades 9 to 16 and 50 lakhs for those who die above grade 17. A grant of 70 lakhs was approved.

The BISP board meeting chaired by Shazia Murri decided to send the proposal to the finance committee to increase the salaries and allowances of the employees of the institution. The board was told that the federal government has been revising the pay scale every year but the pay scale of the BISP employees has not been increased since 2019. The BISP board also decided to upgrade five districts of Balochistan, and further improve the structure of the institution in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Dr. Qaiser Bengali, Sania Riffat, Usman Hasan participated directly in the board meeting while Ashfaq Hasan Khan and Haris Ghazdar participated through video. Secretary BISP Yousuf Khan along with NADRA, Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security and high level of finance. Representatives and senior officers of BISP were also present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Moonis Elahi and Hussain Elahi MNA discuss important issues with Chairman PTI Imran Khan at Zaman Park

Lahore, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, former federal minister Moonis Elahi and Hussain Elahi MNA met with chairman PTI Imran Khan at Zaman Park and enquired about his health.

They also discussed the political situation, administrative matters and rules of procedure of the Punjab assembly. The rules and regulations and technical aspects of the Punjab assembly were also deliberated upon while the CM also informed Imran Khan about relief-oriented programs in the province. In the meeting, the determination to fight every unconstitutional tactic of the opposition was also reiterated.

Chairman PTI Imran Khan stated that a meeting of the provincial parliamentary party has been called for a final consultation about the future of the Punjab assembly. Imran Khan regretted that the cabal of thieves has destroyed the economy.

CM Parvez Elahi said that we are with Imran Khan; we will support every decision of Imran Khan. We fully support whoever we go with; he added and stated that there would be no delay in dissolving the Punjab assembly at the request of Imran Khan.

The Punjab assembly is the trust of Imran Khan and this trust has been given to him, he further said. Imran Khan is indispensable for Pakistan. The opposition which wants to fulfil its desire to bring a no-confidence motion would fail again like before, he remarked.

He said that the opposition in Punjab would continue to face defeat in the future as well. The opposition is daydreaming. It could claim about bringing a no-confidence motion while lacking the required number of members. Parvez Elahi said that if the Punjab assembly is in session, the Governor’s rule cannot be imposed. It is sincere advice to the opposition that they should study the Rules of Business of the assembly before saying anything.

Moonis Elahi said that everything said by Imran Khan would be done without any hesitation and added that not only the Punjab assembly but their life is also available for Imran Khan. What is happening to PDM is what it sowed, he added. Former federal minister Parvez Khattak and Imran Khan’s political advisor Hafiz Farhat Abbas were also present.

PTI leader Parvez Khattak calls on CM Chaudhry Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):PTI leader Parvez Khattak met with Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and discussed the prevailing political situation and matters of mutual interest. The CM said that every tactic of the opposition would be fully responded to and reiterated to side with Imran Khan. Meanwhile, PDM is an incompetent cabal and Imran Khan has reduced the politics of 13 parties to zero.

Similarly, the CM added that the announcement of a no-confidence motion or imposition of the governor’s rule in Punjab is meant to please their own hearts. The opposition does not have the courage of filing a no-confidence motion nor do they have the required numbers, he said. Parvez Khattak said that Imran Khan lives in the hearts of the people.

GND Roundtable on “Pakistan’s Relations with Major Powers” 

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Strategic Perspectives (CSP) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with the National Security Division (NSD) and Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) conducted a roundtable discussion titled, “Pakistan’s Relations with Major Powers” under the series of Grand National Dialogue (GND) on December 01, 2022.

The keynote speaker for the discussion was Ambassador Dr. Major General Raza Muhammad (Retd), President IPRI. The discussion revolved around Pakistan’s relations with major global powers such as the United States, European Union, China and Russia in light of the reorientation of Pakistan’s policy highlighted in the National Security Policy.

The discussion also focused on how Pakistan can balance its relations between major powers amid growing competition, internal balancing within the country, and strengthening economic and human security to formulate an efficient foreign policy. A select number of participants attended the meeting including Dr. Ilhan Niaz and Dr. Munawar Hussain and shared their views on the topic.

In House Meeting with 30-member Afghan Delegation 

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted a 30-member Afghan delegation facilitated by the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), National University of Science and Technology (NUST). The meeting was attended by Dr Aqab Malik, Associate Professor, NUST, Ms. Amina Khan, Director CAMEA, and members of the CAMEA team.

Amina Khan, Director CAMEA, gave a presentation about the working of the Institute and CAMEA and briefed the delegation about the scope of its activities. Views on the situation in Afghanistan were also exchanged.

In House Meeting with Norwegian Delegation 

Islamabad, December 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) hosted an in house meeting with a Norwegian delegation from the Norway Migration Agency on December 1, 2022. The delegation comprised of the agency’s Seniour Advisors Mr. Erlend Stokstad and Ms. Ingeborg Farstad.

They were also accompanied by Ms. Monica Skorpen from the Norwegian Embassy. Director CAMEA, Ms. Amina Khan briefed the delegation on the Afghan refugee crises and gave a detailed overview of the situation. The meeting was also attended by members of the CAMEA research team.
