Third Board of Studies Meeting of Education Department held at University of Turbat 

Turbat, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The third meeting of the Board of Studies of the Education Department was held on 16th November 2022 at the Vice Chancellor’s secretariat of the University of Turbat. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Ruqia Mirwani, Chairperson, Education Department, and UoT.

Dr. Fozia Ahmed Baloch, Chairperson, Education Department, BUITEMS, Quetta, and Mr. Abid Hussain, District Education Officer, Panjgur attended the meeting as external experts. Dr. Muhammad Arshad and Ms. Mehnaz Bashir, faculty members from UoT, while Mr. Mukthar Bashir, Lecturer University of Gwadar, Ms. Huma Imdad, lecturer Govt. Girls Degree College Turbat, Mr. Abdul Wahab, lecturer Govt. Ata Shad Degree College Turbat and Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director QEC, UoT were also present on the occasion.

In her welcome remarks, Ms. Ruqia Mirwani thanked the members for their participation in the meeting and informed the member of the meeting regarding the achievements of the Education Department.

Various agenda items include revision, improvement, changes, coding, the inclusion of new courses, the exclusion of unnecessary courses, merging different courses, and introducing blended learning courses in the curriculum of B.Ed. (Hons) 4-year, B.Ed.2.5, and B.Ed. 1.5 Programs were discussed and resolved accordingly.

The Chairperson of the Education Department informed the meeting that the University of Turbat is working on a joint program with the Virtual University of Pakistan for the further development of the Education Department, the largest department in the university in terms of student strength.

She expressed her gratitude to Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, VC UoT, and his administration for offering their all-out support and guidance for further strengthening the Education Department. The members of the meeting lauded the efforts of the university team under the leadership of VC Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad for the fast growth of Turbat University in a short time.

Session on “Anti money laundering and financial terrorism” held at UoT 

Turbat, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mr. Naveed Ellahi Malik, a retired senior banker delivered a talk on anti-money laundering and financial terrorism here at the University of Turbat on 16th November 2022. The focal person of the event, Dr. Shah Mir Baloch welcomed the estimable guest at the university. The event was held in the main lecture theatre of the Management Science Department. Mr. Malik briefed Students and faculty members on different aspects of financial terrorism and the dangers of amorphous modes of money laundering.

Representation in the United Nations COP27 held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt 

Lahore, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Muhammad Shafiq (Assistant Professor, Institute of Botany, University of the Punjab) has honor and privilege of being part of Pakistan Pavilion and Ecological Society (ESA) of America, USA Pavilion at the same time in the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP27) held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from Nov 06 until Nov 18, 2022, after earning recommendation and Official Observer Badge from Ecological Society (ESA) of America, USA.

In his Official Observer portfolio video shared on United Nations COP27 website, he strongly endorsed Pakistan’s lead charge for climate justice by pressing the case of ‘Loss and Damage’ fund for G77 with a special focus on Pakistan, a country paying enormous cost of climatic catastrophes (recently witnessed in the form of devastating floods of 2022) despite contributing less than 1% of the global GHGs emissions that warm planet earth.

For active engagement in the global reduction of biodegradable municipal solid waste-based GHGs, comprising the third largest anthropogenic source of methane emission, acting locally at Pakistan level through compost- and biochar-based indigenous-led climate solutions that are adaptable, equitable, and strong source of circular bio economy; Muhammad Shafiq as an applied researcher engrossed in indigenous capacity building for reducing climate change adversities and vulnerabilities.

Being a Veteran Awardee of the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) First Runner-up Prize of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Pakistan, he observed ‘Advancing Cleantech Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Climate Action’, Launch Event of the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) at COP27 that included multiple Knowledge Sessions and Sector Dialogues.

After observing Science Day, Adaptation and Agriculture Day, Decarbonisation Day, Water Day, Solution Day, Biodiversity Day, Gender Day, Youth and Future Generations Day, Energy Day, Ace and Civil Society Day, and Finance Day of the Climate-Diplomacy at COP27; he posted two blogs on ESA (USA) website related to realm and rationale of UN’s COP27 in addressing poor people centered climate justice for developing countries like Pakistan in the currently turbulent geopolitical and economic inflation arena.

Australia penalised for slow over-rate in first ODI against England

Dubai, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Australia have been fined 40 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in the first ODI in Adelaide on Thursday. David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Australia were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Captain Pat Cummins plead guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Paul Wilson and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Sam Nogajski levelled the charge.

1 in 2 people did not spend any time using Facebook in the past few days: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 2 people did not spend any time using Facebook in the past few days.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the following question regarding, “Keeping in mind the past few days, can you please tell me how much time did you spend using Facebook?” 55% said that they had not spent any time using Facebook, 15% spent 1 hour, 16% spent 2 hours, 6% spent 3 hours, 1% spent 4 hours, 2% spent 5 hours and 6% said that they spent more than 5 hours using Facebook in the past few days.

On average, males spent 3 hours using Facebook while females spent 2 hours using Facebook. If we look at the age break-down we can see that all the younger age groups spend 3 hours on average using Facebook, while the older age group of 50+ year old’s uses Facebook for 2 hours on average.

Inter University Rugby Championship held at IIUI 

Islamabad, November 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Inter University Rugby Championship commenced here at the new campus of International Islamic University (IIU) that was attended by as many as 15 teams across the country under the supervision of Higher Education Commission (HEC). The championship was hosted by the Directorate of Students Affairs (DSA) of IIUI at the H-10- campus that was inaugurated by the Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development, Sardar Saleem Haider.

Names of the participating teams included, University of Lahore , Cholistan University Of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur, University of Management and Technology Lahore, The University of Kotli Azad Jammu and Kashmir , Iqra University Karachi, Minhaj University Lahore, Punjab University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, LUMS, Superior University , Lahore Garrison University, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), FAST, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore , University of Central Punjab.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Vice President A and F Dr. N.B. Jumani, Students Advisor Dr. Rizwan Aftab, Provost Dr. Abrar Anver, organizing secretary and Assistant Director Sports Muhammad Khalid Chaudhary and Assistant Director Jashmid ullah Khan and officials of Pakistan Rugby Union were also present.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Sardar Saleem said that the equilibrium of urbanization is disturbed ultimately the buildings are replacing the grounds that is alarming. He added that Pakistani youth despite unavailability of the facilities, have showcased their talent and skills. He said the performance of our athletes in recent Olympics proved that if provided proper facilities our youth can conquer all the sports. He called for maximum sports facilities and stressed that the previous governments should have given appropriate importance to this sector. He appreciated the efforts of HEC and IIUI and hailed the exquisite arrangement of the championship.

On the occasion, Dr. N.B. Jumani encouraged all the teams and appreciated the active participation of Pakistani universities adding that such activities bring the platforms to youth to showcase talent and utilize the energies. He vowed that IIUI would continue to hold such activities in future as well.
