Barclay re-elected as ICC Independent Chair 

Dubai, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):The ICC board has unanimously re-elected Greg Barclay as the Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a second two-year term. Barclay was unopposed following the withdrawal of Tavengwa Mukuhlani from the process, and the Board reaffirmed its full support of him to continue as Chair for a further two years.

Commenting on his re-appointment Greg Barclay said: “It is an honour to be re-elected as the Chair of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support. “Over the last two years we have made significant strides forward with the launch of our global growth strategy that provides clear direction to build a successful and sustainable future for our sport.

“It is an exciting time to be involved in cricket and I look forward to continuing to work closely with our Members to strengthen the game in our core markets as well as grow it beyond that, ensuring more of the world can enjoy cricket.” Mukuhlani added: “I would like to congratulate Greg on his re-appointment as ICC Chair, as the continuity his leadership will provide is in the best interests of the sport. I therefore decided to withdraw my candidacy.”

Barclay, an Auckland-based commercial lawyer, was originally appointed as the ICC Chair in November 2020. He was previously the Chair of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and was a director of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015.

Bahawalpur, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Directorate of Public Relations, Islamia University Bahawalpur In collaboration with the Dikshinu Alumni Bahawalpur Chapter and the Directorate of Alumni Affairs, Islamia University Bahawalpur, a Dikshinu Alumni Night was organized at Wasib Banquet Hall. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Engineer Professor Dr. Athar Mehboob was the chief guest and Regional Police Officer Munir Ahmad Zia Rao was the guest of honour. Eminent artist Firdous Jamal, Hina Dilmoor, media expert Mehboob Chaudhry, eminent script writer Ali Moin participated in the event.

Vice-Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Engineer Professor Dr. Athar Mehboob while thanking all the distinguished guests present at the event said that the alumni network is being further strengthened so that the alumni relationship with the university can be further improved. He said that the Muslims of the subcontinent laid the foundation of Jamia Islamia for the awareness of knowledge, struggle for knowledge on scientific basis. Muslims of the subcontinent which belonged to the British for 2 centuries living in slavery, they developed an anxiety and anxiety because their identity was disappearing. In response to this, the movement that was launched was the strongest in the education consciousness.

Colleges and schools were established in different cities. The link of the same chain came into existence in the form of Jamia Islamia which was founded by Nawab Sarsadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V and the most modern sciences of that time were taught. This institution continued to grow towards its destination and in 1975 it was given the status of General Public University where students are being taught modern sciences. 90% of the world’s sciences are taught in Islamia University Bahawalpur so that it continues to play its role in the socio-economic development of the region. We are facing challenges like climate change, problems facing agriculture sector, resettlement of Cholistan, food security. Our graduates are future leaders with leadership skills and them making their place in various institutions using the skills.

A training program for 2500 teachers was started in Islamia University Bahawalpur a few months ago, in which teachers were given training regarding the modern curriculum so that they can teach the students better. Apart from this, we have also added new curriculum in which we have established the Department of Quranic Studies in the Islamic Learning Department in which the students learn and teach the religion in a better way. Regarding the future, we have a responsibility to provide a better environment for our children, so it is important to train them better so that they can play their role in the society by improving their skills and this can only happen when we will get knowledge.

Masood Saber, the head of the Alumni Association, while welcoming the Alumni, said that thousands of graduating students of Islamia University Bahawalpur are intellectually mothers. Are attached to knowledge and desire its growth and well-being. Vice-Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Engineer Professor Dr. Athar Mehboob has exposed Jamia Islamia to new heights of development and today this university is known globally. CA Championship: Southern Punjab beat Balochistan by one wicket 

Lahore, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Southern Punjab eked out a thrilling one-wicket win against Balochistan at the Bugti Stadium, Quetta on the last day of the eighth round of Cricket Associations Championship 2022-23. Southern Punjab had four wickets in hand and needed 95 to beat Balochistan. Yousuf Babar was the star for Southern Punjab as he made 85 not out after starting the day on 28.

Gohar Faiz took six wickets and finished the match with 10 wickets to his name. The match between Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the UBL Sports Complex ended in a draw. Mohammad Suleman scored a brilliant 175 off 322 balls and hit 22 fours. Mohammad Taha made 84 and Rameez Aziz scored 57 as Sindh were 432 for six in their second innings after being asked to follow on

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Mubasir Khan’s half-century helps Northern to a draw against Central Punjab 

Lahore, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):The eighth round matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 between Central Punjab and Northern at the LCCA Ground and Southern Punjab and Balochistan at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium ended in draws on Friday. After Central Punjab’s Tayyab Tahir scored his fourth century of the season and fifth of his first-class career, Northern were set 274 to win.

Central Punjab seemed on course to a victory with Northern losing a flurry of wickets at the start of their second innings. The scorecard at one point read 26 for three and then 77 for four. That’s when 20-year-old Mubasir Khan, who was the player of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-22, stepped up and helped his team to a draw by holding his end strongly and knitting crucial partnerships.

Mubasir scored 58 not out off 98 balls, in which he struck 11 fours. He put a defiant 61-run stand with Umar Waheed (31 in 63). Waheed had earlier stitched 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Umar Amin, who made 34 off 142, to push Central Punjab bowlers back and deny them any further inroads.

Northern remain on top of the points table following the draw with 122 points. Central Punjab’s Tayyab began the day on 58 not out and helped his team to 221 for seven, scored at a run rate of 5.26. Tayyab recorded a sparkling century, bringing it up in 113 balls and smashing 10 fours and two sixes.

Northern’s Aamir Jamal and captain Nauman Ali took three wickets each. Balochistan’s Abdul Wahid Bangalzai missed out a century by three runs against Southern Punjab at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Wahid made 97 runs in 130 balls, hitting 14 fours and a six, and laid a solid partnership with Hussain Talat, who was unbeaten on 53 in 89 balls.

Balochistan were 213 for four in 50 overs when stumps were drawn. Earlier Southern Punjab were bowled out for 350 after beginning the day on 270 for six. Usman Salahuddin added 33 runs to his overnight 102 before he was dismissed by Bilawal Iqbal, who took two wickets. The other two bowlers to take two wickets were Khurram Shahzad and Hussain. Taj Wali was the pick of the bowlers for Balochistan with three for 57.

After the completion of the eighth round, third last, Sindh follow Northern by 13 points. Central Punjab are ranked third with 102 points – the are they only side to play all draws. Balochistan are fourth with 93 points. Southern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are fifth and sixth with 74 and 48 points.

Government supports NGOs to improve environment: Sindh Governor

Karachi, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has said that the government would do its best to help non-governmental organizations working to improve environmental conditions in increasing in tree cover. The Sindh governor expressed his resolve to this effect on behalf of the government as he met a delegation of the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH). The delegation was led by NFEH President Naeem Qureshi.

Delegation includes Secretary General NFEH Ruqiya Naeem, Vice President Engr. Nadeem Ashraf, Information Secretary Mustafa Tahir and Advisors Imran Taj and Mussadiq Aziz. The meeting took into consideration issues related to the drives underway to lessen environmental pollution and increase the tree cover in Sindh. The Governor told the delegation that after health and education environmental protection was the third most important area of concern for him.

He acknowledged that an increase in tree plantation would go a long way to keep the environment clean and free of pollution. Tessori assured that the Governor House would support awareness programmers on environmental issues, start tree plantation campaign in the city and support corporate sector for CSR activities. He stressed on the awareness and prevention of fire safety in all commercial and residential buildings.

The NFEH President briefed the Governor about the efforts of his NGOs to increase tree plantation and raise public awareness about environment-related issues. He said the NFEH had been constantly collaborating with the Ministry of Climate Change, the Karachi Commissioner office, the Sindh government’s Forest Department, many other public and private sector organizations to increase tree cover in Karachi and other main cities.

He said NFEH was organizing various activities to improve environment, CSR, fire safety, and energy sector since 1999, adding more than 300 events and plantation campaigns had been organized so far. Qureshi said the NFEH required constant patronage of the government to continue its activities to improve the environmental conditions in the country.

CM Chaudhry Parvez Elahi directs WASA to streamline its performance and provide excellent basic facilities to the citizens 

Lahore, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi stated that the Labourites will be provided excellent basic facilities and expressed his resolve that all possible resources will be provided to improve civic facilities in the LDA schemes. CM chaired the sixth meeting of the LDA Governing Body and directed WASA to improve its performance.

CM exhorted that WASA will have to keep itself abreast of the latest requirements by shunning its traditional manner in order to timely resolve the problems of the citizens. CM vowed to transform WASA so as to make it a public service institution in the true sense. CM asserted not to make any compromise on the provision of facilities to the citizens adding that provision of clean water and making betterments in the sewerage system is a fundamental right of the people.

CM warned that no negligence will be tolerated in the provision of clean water and in the installation of sewerage pipelines. CM stopped WASA from collecting sewerage charges from the mosques and accorded approval to make necessary amendments in the rules and regulations for the construction of new schools. 48 feet vertical height has been fixed for the construction of new schools and schools will not be built on less than 30 feet road. Approval was granted to make amendments in the rules for the Legal Advisors, Consultants in WASA and in the Law firm.

CM directed to settle the issue relating to the allowance of LDA Engineers and accorded approval to upgrade the posts of Tube well operators during the meeting. The Tube Well Operators working in Grade 2 will be given Grade 7 while those working in Grade 5 will be given Grade 8. Approval was accorded to ascertain the modus operandi for the promotion of Directors Legal, Recovery, Revenue, Finance and Assistant Director Admin along with granting professional and non-practising allowance to the doctors of LDA.

It was decided during the meeting that sewerage charges will be collected from the private residential schemes according to the new rate. It was declared mandatory to ensure implementation of the rules pertaining to parking and roof gardening in the apartments. Approval was granted to the amended layout plan of LDA Avenue1. CM directed to constitute a Settlement Committee to settle the disputed matters prevailing in the LDA schemes.
