بیجنگ، 3 نومبر 2022ء/پی آرنیوزوائر/– چین کے صدر شی جن پنگ نے بدھ کو چین کے دورے پر آئے ہوئے پاکستانی وزیر اعظم محمد شہباز شریف سے بیجنگ کے گریٹ ہال آف دی پیپلز میں بات چیت کی اور شہباز شریف ان عالمی رہنماؤں میں شامل ہیں جنہوں نے کمیونسٹ پارٹی آف چائنا (سی پی سی) کی 20 ویں قومی کانگریس کے اختتام کے فورا بعد چین کا دورہ کیا ہے۔

شی جن پنگ نے کہا کہ چین پاکستان کے ساتھ مل کر ہمہ جہت تزویراتی تعاون کی سطح کو بلند کرنے، نئے دور میں مشترکہ مستقبل کے ساتھ قریبی چین پاکستان کمیونٹی کی تعمیر کی کوششوں کو تیز کرنے اور اپنی ہمہ موسمی تزویراتی تعاون پر مبنی شراکت داری میں نئی روح پھونکنے کے لیے تیار ہے۔

20 ویں سی پی سی نیشنل کانگریس کے اہم نتائج پیش کرنے کے بعد صدر شی جن پنگ نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ چین کھلے پن کی اپنی بنیادی پالیسی کو جاری رکھے گا اور مسلسل ترقی کے ذریعے پاکستان اور باقی دنیا کو نئے مواقع فراہم کرے گا۔ چین اپنی ترقیاتی حکمت عملی اور پاکستان کی حکمت عملی کے درمیان ہم آہنگی کو مزید گہرا کرے گا۔

شہباز شریف نے کہا کہ پاکستان اعلیٰ معیار کے بیلٹ اینڈ روڈ تعاون کو فروغ دینے کے لیے چین کے ساتھ مل کر کام کرنے کے لیے تیار ہے اور امید ہے کہ ایم ایل ون کی اپ گریڈیشن، کراچی سرکلر ریلوے اور دیگر اہم بنیادی ڈھانچے کے منصوبوں میں چین کی بھرپور حمایت حاصل ہوگی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان سیکیورٹی اقدامات کو مزید تیز کرے گا اور چینی اداروں اور اہلکاروں کی حفاظت کے لیے ہر ممکن کوشش کرے گا۔

Beaconhouse hosts the 15th Edition of the ‘School of Tomorrow’ Conference – ‘Guardians of the Future’

Lahore, November 04, 2022 (PPI-OT): Beaconhouse, the country’s largest network of private educational institutions, has launched the 15th edition of its flagship ‘School of Tomorrow’ (SOT) Event series today in Lahore, marking the 47th anniversary of the Beaconhouse Group.

The three-day event, themed ‘Guardians of the Future’ will host over 150 global and local thought leaders from various sectors, including education, development, healthcare, technology and digital media, for insightful panel discussions on a multitude of topics relevant to the youth and varying factors impacting the general public.

Over the last four decades Beaconhouse has been a committed advocate for the rights of children and encourages young people to be active participants in their learning, and be viewed as guardians of the future: the next generations of mentors and leaders within their families, communities, and nations.

LUMS Hosts Dinner for Overseas Pakistani Award-Winners

Lahore, November 04, 2022 (PPI-OT): LUMS played host to an exclusive reception on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at The Monal Restaurant in Islamabad. Held in honour of the 32 recipients of the inaugural ‘Pride of Pakistan – Medal of Excellence’ Awards, overseas Pakistanis who were recognised for their invaluable contributions to their homeland, the reception welcomed individuals from around the world, who are making dedicated efforts across different fields for the benefit of Pakistan.

From making a positive impact to the country’s public healthcare system to raising funds for the advancement of primary education, these individuals are working diligently in their communities for the nation’s betterment. In the spirit of celebrating their inspirational work and acquainting them with LUMS’ akin national footprint, the University was delighted to welcome these awardees. LUMS senior leadership including Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Interim Provost; Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement and Dr. Naveed Arshad, Associate Professor, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) were in attendance at the event.

Ms. Kamran opened the evening with a brief overview of the LUMS story and the exciting new avenues being undertaken. Shedding light on the University’s unique ‘learning without borders’ philosophy, encompassing the values of diversity, accessibility, and innovation, she then invited Dr. Ahmad to address the gathering.

Extending a warm and congratulatory welcome to the award-winners, Dr. Ahmad appreciated the remarkable stories of the awardees as role models for the aspirations of the country’s youth. “Your stories are important to disseminate because Pakistani youth have so much potential. By sharing your stories, they will understand as you have, that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity when one is able to turn both to their advantage,” he said.

Sharing insights on the initiatives that LUMS has taken to combat the challenges facing Pakistan, from a one-of-a-kind immersive learning partnership with the University of Baltistan, Skardu to the launch of LUMSx, Pakistan’s first online platform for high-quality learning, Dr. Ahmad stressed on the importance of amplifying our collective efforts for the national interest of the country.

He invited the award-winners to not just visit LUMS while they are here, but also feel encouraged to collaborate with LUMS on any opportunity of their choice. Dr Zaidi assumes charge of Punjab University Vice Chancellor

Lahore, November 04, 2022 (PPI-OT): Government College University Lahore’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi has been assigned additional charge of Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab for a period of three months or till the appointment of regular incumbent. In this regard, a notification has been issued by Higher Education Department. After issuance of notification, Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi has assumed the charge of PU VC. In his message, Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi said that PU was an excellent educational institution with a glorious past and traditions and it is an honour for him to be appointed as the Vice Chancellor of one of the oldest university of the Subcontinent.

He said that the Government of Punjab had given him the responsibility of the administrative affairs of Punjab University for which I thanked the government for this trust and he would try to fulfill this responsibility as well in a good way. He said that his first priority was to solve all the problems related to the teachers, employees and students of Punjab University, which they are facing due to the absence of the Vice-Chancellor in the last few days. He said that he would play his due role for further development of Punjab University.

He said that he would make strong efforts and to further improve the quality of education and lay the foundation of such initiatives which would improve the global ranking of the university further. He said that all affairs of Punjab University would be run in accordance with the rules and regulations. He said that collective efforts would be made in making Punjab University one of the top educational institutions in the world.

Professor Zaidi, who holds a PhD in economics from the world’s top university, University of Oxford, is a social policy analyst and renowned researcher. He holds vast experiences of working and teaching at the world’s top universities around the world and would wish to bring this experience towards improvements in higher education in Pakistan.

Asghar Zaidi’s reward was attributed to his international research works on population ageing, on older people and people with disabilities. Last year, the Government of Shanghai also awarded him the 1,000 Foreign Experts Scholarship in 2019. He was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 2019 for his meritorious contributions in the field of research and education especially attributing to his innovative research on population ageing.

Working along the lines of the Human Development Index of Dr Mahbub ul Haq, Prof. Zaidi developed two global indexes, namely Global Age Watch Index and Active Ageing Index. These indexes provided insights in studying the well-being of older populations around the world. His contributions are also recognised for the first of its kind study of dementia experiences in Pakistan with Alzheimer’s Pakistan and in developing a nation-wide survey of human rights of older population for British Council Islamabad.
