Hostels’ Employees Cricket Tournament concludes at IIUI 

Islamabad, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):An enthralled final of the Hostels’ employees cricket tournament at the international Islamic University (IIU) concluded here at university as its title was clinched by Team of hostel 03 as it defeated team of hostel 01. The cricket tournament was organized by the Provost Office in collaboration with the Office of Protocol and Public Relations in which 7 teams from hostels participated. 5 teams were from male campus 01 team from female campus hostel employees and 1 team was from Kuwait hostels Faisal Masjid Campus.

The activity is part of the vision and initiatives of the IIUI President for providing a healthy and quality education environment to the IIUI community. It is pertinent to mention here that H.E. Dr Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, IIUI President inaugurated the event, IIUI President appreciated the efforts of organizers saying that sports activities are equally important along with the academic activities. He reiterated his resolve that there will be stone left unturned to provide a healthy and peaceful milieu of learning to the students.

The winner trophy was collected by the captain of team of Hostel 3 Mr. Qadeer, while runner up award was collected by Jameel Qureshi from the Chief Guest of the ceremony senior journalist, Hanif Khalid. On the occasion, Malik Khurram Shehzad, Special Assistant to Prime Minister and Ex-member Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Dr. Samina Malik Vice President Female Campus, Dr. Abrar Anver, Chief Organizer and Provost male, Dr. Rizwan Aftab, Students Advisor Male Campus, Dr. Sumiya Chughtai Students Advisor female, Dr. Humaira Ashfaq Provost Female, Assistant Directors Provost offices Chaudhary Muhammad Khalid, and Ali Rafie, Assistant Directors Protocol Al-Hassan and Muhammad Nauman and a large number of employees and students.

The chief guest, Hanif Khalid also awarded medals to the captains of all the participatory teams. He said IIUI is one of the prestigious institutions and it has many distinctions. He also stressed that sports activities must be promoted as these are vital for mental and physical health of youth. He appreciated the efforts of IIUI management for organizing a constructive event. Malik Khurram Shehzad highlighted the importance of the sports activities. He appreciated the initiative of the Provost Office and Protocol section of the university.

Provost male, Dr. Abrar Anver thanked the honourable guests for attending the event and reiterated his resolve that his office will continue to organize such activities. He said the Provost Office is thankful to employees and management for keen interest in this healthy activity. He also appreciated the efforts of the Provost Office’s officers and staff members for making this event a success. Director Female Campus, Dr Samina Malik also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the Provost Office. On this occasion, Dr. Samina also encouraged the team of Hostel employee’s team from Female Hostels’ for their participation in the event. The Best batsman award of the tournament was won by captain of the winning team Mr. Qadeer, while best bowler was Raza Abbasi.

One Day seminar on importance of Intellectual Property Rights in Academia

Lahore, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized one-day seminar on Importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in Academia on Thursday, 22nd September, 2022 at GC University Lahore. Faculty members and PhD scholars of various departments attended the seminar. After a welcome note by the Director ORIC, Prof. Dr. Faiza Sharif, the Guest of Honour Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Additional Director STI, Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) briefed the faculty and students about the importance of intellectual property rights. Resource Person Mr. Muhammad Umar Ashraf, Director IPO conducted an interactive session with the participants and addressed their various queries about importance of registration of IP rights, copy rights and trademarks. He also discussed about the penalties against violations of intellectual property rights.

Resource person Ms. Shakra Khurshid, Assistant Controller IPO Regional office Lahore addressed the audience about significance of Patents and Design Law. She also briefed the participants about the process of registration of industrial designs and patents and their territorial limits. The resource person also discussed about the patentable and non-patentable subject matters and areas of technology. After certificate distribution ceremony, the session was closed with a vote of thanks by the Director ORIC Dr. Faiza Sharif.

Mental Health Conference at GCU

Lahore, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Two Days 18th Annual International Conference of Muslim Psychology on Mental Health and Well Being: A Global Priority was held on 18th and 19th October, 2022 organized by the Department of Psychology GC University Lahore in Collaboration with the Society of Advancement for Muslim Psychology. The Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Asghar Zaidi was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. The honourable Vice Chancellor appreciated the theme of the conference and stressed on the role of the religiosity and spirituality in promoting the mental health and wellbeing. Prof. Dr. Syeda Salma Hasan Chairperson, Department of Psychology GC University, Lahore said that this conference would open new avenues for indigenous research in the area of Islamic Psychology.

Key note addressed on Islamic Psychology and Mental Health was delivered by Dr Aneeq Ahmad Chair Department of Psychology Henderson State University, USA. Dr. Aneeq Ahmad talked about the Spiritually Multidimensional Psychotherapy to understand that our existence in this world is temporary and we need to be concerned about hereafter life. Moreover, he also shed light on the Islamic therapy for Grief intervention.

A Galaxy of eminent psychologists Dr Aneeq Ahmad Chair Department of Psychology Hendersen State University, Dr. Nosheen Rahman, Former Director Institute of Clinical Psychology, University of the Punjab , Dr. Aisha Sitwat Assistant Professor Institute of Clinical Psychology, University of the Punjab, Ms. Saima Salman CEO Rational Living Inc Singapore a leading cognitive Behaviour Therapist , Dr Iffat Batool Department of Psychology GC University, Dr.Amjad Tufail President Society of Advancement for the Muslim Psychology ,Dr. Amina Obaid Khawaja Assistant Professor Institute of Applied Psychology LCWU , Dr Usman Jawwad University of the Health Sciences and Prof. Dr. Ismat ullah Cheema Former Chairman Department of Psychology University of the Lahore shared their expert knowledge on the theme of the conference.

In this two days 18th Annual International Conference of Muslim Psychology Muhammad Ajmal Memorial lecture was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Amjad Tufail in which he reflected on the contributions of Dr. Muhammad Ajmal , Dr. Syed Azhar Ali Rizvi Memorial Lecture By Dr. Aisha Sitwat she emphasized on the Bonding with the Allah Almighty, Four state of Art Lectures on Islamic Models By Dr. Amina Obaid Khawaja talked about her indigenously developed Islamic models and emphasized that zikr can help people to deal with the mental health problems, Ms. Saima Salman delivered a lecture Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Islam and emphasized on that we need to practice gratitude in the adversities we should submit ourselves to the Will of ALLAH , Dr. Iffat Batool delivered a lecture on Forgiveness and Mental Health and she explained that forgiveness process is developmental in nature and gradually it transforms the person and Dr. Usman Jawwad deliberated on the Alfarabi’s concept of Riyasat Madina were delivered.

Two Scientific sessions chaired by Prof. Dr Sarah Shahed Prof. Fc College, Dr Uzma Ashiq Director Gender Studies LCWU, Dr. Shumaila Asad Chairperson Department of Psychology Ripphah International University, Prof Dr. Talat Suhail Former Chairperson Institute of Applied Psychology LCWU and Prof. Shireen Asad former director student centre LCWU.

The conference ended with the Panel discussion the panelists Prof. Dr Naumana Amjad, Prof Dr. Amjad Tufail, Prof. Dr Ismat ullah Cheema, Prof. Dr. Amjad Tufail, Prof. Dr. Syeda Salma Hasan, Prof. Dr. Syeda Shahida Batool, Dr. Umme Rubab Kazmi, Dr. Nasreen Akhter, Dr. Mussaffa Butt, Dr. Usman Rasheed Chaudhry, Dr Salman Khan and Ms. Abeeha Shaloom. The panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Syed Imran Murtaza. The panellists highlighted the relationship of religiosity, spirituality, social and physical wellbeing with the Mental Health. More over the stigmas associated with the mental illness were also discussed.

Delegates from many prestigious educational institutes including Institute of Applied Psychology University of the Punjab, Institute of Clinical Psychology University of the Punjab, Lahore College for Women University. Kinnaird College for Women University, FC College, Faziyya College, University of the Central Punjab, Bahria University, University of Management and Technology, MAO College, Ripphah International University and Lahore Garrison University attended the international conference. Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi the Vice Chancellor at the closing ceremony appreciated the efforts of the Department of Psychology GC University, Lahore and The Society of Advancement for the Muslim Psychology for this intellectually stimulating joint venture to highlight the role of Islamic teachings in improving the mental health and wellbeing.

Medical team sent to Sindh’s flood-affected areas

Karachi, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Assessing the further need, the PRCS-Sindh has established and deployed five Mobile Health Teams (MHT) comprising male and female doctors, lady health workers, dispensers and social mobilizers for Dadu, Thatta, Jamshoro, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas to provide free medical treatment and medicines.

From mid of October, since its inception, MHTs visited flood-affected villages of targeted districts and provided treatment and medicine to more than 5614 patients. Moreover, MHTs also conducted 175 health awareness sessions for men and women separately and disseminate the information regarding malaria, diarrhoea, personal hygiene, and water-borne diseases, which were attended by 4454 locals.

NorCross and PRCS work together to help the flood-affected people in Sindh

Karachi, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Norwegian Red Cross (NorCross) has provided PRCS for Sindh 5,000 hygiene kits, 5,000 Jerry Cans, and 5,000 buckets, of which 4,000 hygiene kits, 4,000 Jerry Cans, and 4,000 buckets have been distributed in districts including Larkana, Kambar Shahdad Kot, Shikarpur, and Dadu.

NorCross plans to send an additional 2,000 hygiene kits, 2,000 Jerry Cans, and 2,000 buckets to the worst-affected areas of Sindh. Furthermore, NorCross has sent 20,000 IEC materials for hygiene promotion and disease prevention, comprising Typhoid, Dengue, Acute Watery Diarrhea, and Scabies.

GRC and PRCS jointly help the flood victims in Sindh

Karachi, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):German Red Cross (GRC), with funding from German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), is supporting 28500 (171000 people) flood-affected families in Sindh Province. GRC provides food parcels (dry ration) of 50 kg each for six-member family for 15 days, kitchen sets and family hygiene kits. This is the part of GRC’s national response program which is for 50.000 families in three provinces KP, Sindh and Punjab. In addition, the hygiene awareness raising sessions are part of the distribution of hygiene kits.
