Punjab University dean appointed

Lahore, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Governor Punjab/Chancellor Punjab University has appointed Prof Dr Nadeem Irfan Bukhari as Dean Faculty of Pharmacy for a period of three years. This is his second term. Earlier he was also appointed as Principal College of Pharmacy for two times. He has been the senior Dean of PU.

CEMS organised awareness seminar on Breast Cancer at UVAS

Lahore, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Center for Emergency and Medical Services (CEMS) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Organization and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital organised awareness walk and seminar on Breast Cancer with the theme of “We Hope, We Fight, We Will Win” here on Thursday in City Campus.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk while Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Dr Muhammad Irfan Siddique and number of students and faculty members were participated. Later, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf chaired the seminar. In seminar speakers spoke about the introduction, awareness prevention, management diagnosis and treatment of the breast cancer.

The objective of the seminar was to create awareness among the students, faculty members and general population especially woman who are prone to this virulent disease and also convey information to public regarding diagnostics method and treatment techniques and management of the patient etc.

Earlier, Qirtas-UVAS Litrary and Art Society of the Senior Tutor Office arranged a seminar in the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Literature History and Ahd-e-Hazir of Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) at City Campus. In which Justice (Retired) Nazeer Ahmad Ghazi was the guest speakers and he delivered an informative and motivational lecture to UVAS students while number of faculty members attended lecture.

IHHN Celebrates World Mental Health Day 

Karachi, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):On October 26, 2022, the Psychosocial Department at Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) Korangi Campus hosted an event for all staff in commemoration of World Mental Health Day. The event included a host of interactive activities in line with the international 2022 theme “Make mental health for all a global priority.”

The objective of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, discuss and create a better understanding of mental health problems, and guide healthcare professionals about ways to cater to their issues stemming from anxiety, stress, depression, and anger.

The Psychosocial department set up several stalls, each related to one of the following: Gratitude and satisfaction with life, Personality assessments, Self-care, Anger management, IQ Assessments, and Anxiety, Depression and Stress (ADS) management. The stalls conducted intervention-based therapeutic activities, which included verbal counselling sessions, art and craft projects, colour psychology, and creative games.

The event included the following Key Messages:

Mental health is the foundation of a happy life.

Be gentle with yourself.

Sometimes, it takes a breakdown to make a breakthrough.

You are stronger than you think.

Mental health is a journey, not a destination.

You’re not alone in your struggle.

It’s okay to not be okay.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf, Senior Consultant Pediatric Oncology and Executive Director of Medical Services at Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN).

Emergency Medicine Leadership Course – Day 2 

Karachi, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Emergency Department (ED) at Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), Korangi Campus, is conducting a three-day course on Emergency Medicine Leadership (EML) from October 26-28, 2022. The second day of the course started off with a brief recap of the first day by Dr. Megan Rybarcyzk, University of Pennsylvania, followed by a series of discussions and interactive activities.

Dr. Syed Moyn Ali, Director, IME, JSMU, and Dr. Megan Rybarcyzk, led a discussion on the development of EM educational courses, which focused on the development of course curriculum and objectives, course structures, and the management of course logistics. Continuing on with the theme of education, Dr. Saima Ali, Head of the Department – Emergency Services (Adult), Dr. Sabahat Fatima, and Dr. Megan Rybarcyzk lead an interactive session on teaching and learning methodologies.

The course attendees took part in group activities whereby they had to practice being teachers themselves and develop their own personal teaching strategies with clear objectives for their respective EDs. This activity was followed by a recorded lecture by Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz on how to balance and prioritize your ongoing education in a busy clinical environment.

The second half of the day started off with a detailed session led by Dr. Junaid Patel on conflict resolution and negotiation in an ED setting. This was followed by an interactive session led by Dr. Saima Ali, where the candidates had to role-play in the above-mentioned difficult situations. Continuing on with the theme of conflict resolution, attendees were given a recorded lecture by Dr. Paul Charlton on having difficult conversations in the ED setting.

Recorded lectures by Dr. Julie Uspal on Quality and Safety, and Dr. Joseph Leanna, on Practice Guidelines and Clinical Pathways were also given. The day ended with an interactive session led by Dr. Lubna Mushtaque and Dr. Sama Mukhtar on the importance of ED data and quality improvement. The candidates took part in a related group activity where they had to design their own clinical pathway for their own respective ED.

IHHN signs MoU with GFS Builders and Developers 

Karachi, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):On October 24, 2022, Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GFS Builders and Developers (GFS). Both parties agreed to combine resources to advance IHHN’s noble mission of providing free-of-cost, quality care for all.

Taking on an invaluable sponsorship role, GFS will support IHHN as a “Premium Sponsor” in its 2023-2025 Golf Tournaments and as a “Title Sponsor” in the 2022 Corporate Cricket Tournaments, to be held in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. GFS will also be recognized as IHHN’s sponsor in its 2023 Ramazan Campaign and ICON 2024 – IHHN’s Biennial International Scientific and Academic Conference.

Additionally, GFS will also enhance IHHN’s capacity building and service delivery by supporting the establishment of free-of-cost primary care clinics, hospitals, and Donation Collection Centers in its construction projects across the country, including Bahria Town, Islamabad, and other cities.

CM Ch Parvez Elahi holds a meeting of Gujranwala and Sahiwal division parliamentarians

Lahore, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi chaired a meeting of MNAs and MPAs of Gujranwala and Sahiwal divisions to discuss the political situation, constituency-related development schemes and long march. Speaker of Punjab assembly Sibtain Khan was also present.

The CM deplored that the imported government has destroyed the economy while the chairman PTI Imran Khan is struggling to save Pakistan. The nation stands with Imran Khan and an incompetent government will not be able to stand in front of the sea of people, he said. The CM assured of the early resolution of public issues and said that the ongoing projects will be completed soon.

He directed to release funds to Sialkot women university and added that matters pertaining to Sialkot THQ hospital be disposed of without any delay. Similarly, he ordered that measures be taken to facilitate the visitors at the shrine of Hazrat Baba Farid Masood Ganj Shakar (Rehmat Ullah Aleyh) in Pakpattan.

The shortage of doctors, teachers and police in Sahiwal and Gujranwala divisions will be met, he assured. Besides this, a water filtration plant will be installed in Malka Hans, a veterinary university campus will be established at Sahiwal and Burewala-Chichawatni dual road will be constructed, the CM said. Similarly, roads, paved streets, sewerage and other projects will be completed in Sahiwal and Gujranwala. PHA in Sahiwal will be made more effective, he concluded.

Parliamentarians including Murtaza Iqbal, Rai Hassan Nawaz, Sumsam Bukhari, Mian Farrukh Mumtaz Manika, Pir Ahmad Shah Khagha, Ch. Naeem Ibrahim, Maj (r) Ghulam Sarwar, Pir Syed Saeedul Hasan, Ch.
