Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fifth round action from Friday 

Lahore, October 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):The fifth round action of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 will commence from tomorrow, 21 October, at three different venues of the country with Northern leading the table with 68 points. Defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are sitting at the bottom with 26 points.

In the fifth round, Northern will take on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. At the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, fourth-placed Balochistan will take on second-placed Sindh. This match will be live-streamed on PCB YouTube channel. The third fixture of the round will be a Punjab derby, Central Punjab – who occupy the third spot – will take on fifth-placed Southern Punjab.

Central Punjab’s right-handed batter Tayyab Tahir leads the batting chart with 449 runs from four matches at an average of 112.25. Tayyab has struck three centuries, which included 39 fours and 11 sixes.

Tayyab’s teammate Abdullah Shafique, who has represented Pakistan in 11 international matches, is second on the batting chart, scoring 412 runs from four outings in the tournament at an average of 82.40. Abdullah has till date struck one century and two half-centuries in the tournament. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sahibzada Farhan and Northern’s Faizan Riaz are the other two batters to score 400 runs in the competition so far.

In the bowling chart, Sindh’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed leads the roster with 20 scalps from two matches. He has one four-fer and three five-fers from the four innings with six for 100 being his best figures in an innings this season. He was the standout bowler for Sindh in their comprehensive 10-wicket win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fourth round match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Abrar’s teammate left-arm fast Mir Hamza occupies the third spot with 13 wickets from three matches. Between Abrar and Hamza is Northern’s right-arm off-spinner Mubasir Khan, who has taken 17 wickets from four games including a four-fer.

Meanwhile, three matches in the fifth round of Cricket Associations Championship will also be played from tomorrow at three different venues in Karachi. Central Punjab continue to lead the points table with 75 points, bagging three wins from four outings. They will take on fourth-placed Southern Punjab at the NBP Sports Complex. Second-placed Sindh (59 points) will square off against third-placed Balochistan (55 points) at the KCCA Stadium. The two sides ranked at the bottom – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern will play against each other at the UBL Sports Complex.

Governor Punjab Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman visited the National Cotton Breeding Center, IUB 

Bahawalpur, October 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Governor Punjab Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman visited the National Cotton Breeding Center during his recent visit to the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, has made progress in the research activities of the university in the last three years, especially in the research related to agriculture, according to the national priorities.

It includes major achievements of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in research on cotton, an integral part of the country’s agricultural economy and textile industry, and the production and sale of new varieties. The Governor Punjab also expressed his happiness for the research on cotton, production of cotton seeds that combat climatic challenges and diseases and congratulated the Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and the Director National Cotton Breeding Center Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandasha.

On this occasion, it was informed that the cotton varieties of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are being cultivated on more than 40% of the agricultural area of Punjab and are of key importance in the revival of the multi-billion dollar agricultural economy and textile industry. Governor Punjab said that he will soon invite the Islamia University of Bahawalpur to a cotton advisory meeting at the Governor House.

Bahawalpur, October 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Media and Communication Studies the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a webinar on the topic of prevention of fake or unverified news. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti said that media literacy is the most important need of the hour through which fake news can be countered.

Famous award-winning journalist of the country Mazhar Abbas, President of Federal Union of Journalists, well-known young journalist and analyst Athar Kazmi, young TV host and analyst Ghareeda Farooqui and Director of Center of Excellence in Journalism IEA Karachi Anbar Rahim Shamsi in their webinar.

Mazhar Abbas said that journalism should not be used for specific purposes and should remain in the sphere of respect while criticizing so that the reformation of society is possible. Anbar Shamsi said that we should not only depend on the government to stop fake news, but the media industry should also stop such news on its own.

Ghareeda Farooqui, while highlighting the prevention of fake news in Pakistan, said that laws should be made to ensure its implementation. Analyst Athar Kazmi said that due to the lack of gatekeeping and editorial control on social media, it has become easy to spread fake news, while their remedy is also possible by informing and preventing such news through social media.

At the end of the session, Chairman of the Department of Media and Communication Studies Prof. Dr. Abdul Wajid Khan thanked the speakers and the participants. Prof. Dr. Rana Shahzad, Assistant Professor Jam Sajjad Hussain, Shafaq Manzoor, Maham Shams, Qamar-ul-Zaman Babar, and other faculty members and a large number of students from across the country participated in the webinar.

World Food Day 2022 was celebrated by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur 

Bahawalpur, October 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):World Food Day 2022 was celebrated by Department of Food Science and Technology, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. In this regard, a seminar and awareness walk was organized in the auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob inaugurated the World Food Day.

In his address, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to identify millions of people who do not have access to quality and healthy food. The theme of World Food Day this year is no one else. The day is being celebrated at a time when the world is facing various challenges, including the Covid-19 epidemic, inter-country conflicts, climate change, inflation and rising food prices. There are prices. Due to all these reasons, the world is facing a serious food security threat. Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology was the focal person of the event.

Chitral, October 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Chitral and the agriculture research station Seenlasht, Chitral signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 19th October 2022 at the Office of the honourable Vice-chancellor University of Chitral. Prof. Dr. Zahir shah (the Vice Chancellor, University of Chitral) and Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rauf (the Director of Agriculture Research Station, Seenlasht, and Chitral) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The Objective of this MOU is to enhance research-based educational activities for the students of the University of Chitral. This MOU will help the students of the University of Chitral to have some practical experience in research and analysis of the agriculture sector. This MOU will also provide an opportunity for the students of the University of Chitral to use the facilities of the agriculture research station including well established and advanced laboratory.

Dr. Fakhruddin (Senior Research Officer, Agricultural Research Station, Chitral Lower, Dr. Nazim Rahim (Additional Registrar, University of Chitral) witnessed the ceremony.
