In-House Meeting with Swedish Migration Agency Delegation 

Islamabad, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted an In-House meeting with members of the Swedish Migration Agency. The delegation included: Ludvig Sundin, Research Analyst, Swedish Migration Agency and Jens Bolling, Analyst from the Swedish Migration Agency. During the meeting, Ms Amina Khan, Director CAMEA, first gave a presentation on the working of the Institute and then talked about the situation in Afghanistan where the issue of refugees was also discussed at length.

Celebrations of Seerat un Nabvi (PBUH) week at IIUI 

Islamabad, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Directorate of Students Affairs, DSA (Male) Campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is celebrating “Seerat-un-Nabvi (PBUH Week)” from 18-20 October, 2022 at the faculty block auditorium of male campus. In this regard students and employees participated in a Naat and Speech competition which was attended by Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Vice President (Academics), IIUI as chief guest while Mr. Nasir Farid, In-Charge, Directorate of Protocol and Public Relations, IIUI was Judge of the competition.

Among students, in the Naat competition today, M Awais Ahmed kareemi got 1st Position, while Mr. Usama Mehmood and Sayed Sami Ahmed got 2nd and 3rd Positions. University employees, Mr. Hamid Habib and Mr. Bilal Shah got 1st and 2nd Positions. The program was attended by a large number of faculty members, students and employees. Dr. Tauqeer Hussain Sargana, Director Students Affairs convener of the event shared that upon the advice of the Worthy President, IIUI, Directorate is celebrating the week from 18-20 October, 2022 as “Seerat un Nabvli Week” in connection with the month of Rabi ul Awal. He also appreciated efforts of his team including Mr. Jamshid ullah Khan and other staff members.

Directorate of Students Affairs IIUI has arranged various programs related to the Seerat of Muhammad (PBUH) at faculty block auditorium male campus. The week’s celebrations programs include, Naat and Speech program, Qirat and Quiz program and a Lecture on “Reflecting on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Life, Character and Message”.

FBAS, IIUI organizes seminar on Global-UGRAD Exchange Program 

Islamabad, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Biological Science and Department of Environmental Science of Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, FBAS, of the International Islamic University (IIUI), in a joint venture conducted an informatory seminar on Global-UGRAD exchange program. Dr. Sania Zaib, Dr. Sadia Aziz (Department of Biological Sciences) and Dr. Sarah Amir (Department of Environmental Science) were the core organisers of the said event.

Speakers of the seminar were Aurooba Shafquat (Department of Environmental Science) and Amna Mehwish (Department of Biological Sciences) who were among the 250 students selected from all over Pakistan against 18,000 applicants. Amna and Aurooba during the seminar guided the students through the application and selection process and shared their own experience in United States as a full-time exchange student.

Remarks of appreciation was given by Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan and Head of Department DES Dr. Syeda Maria Ali. Dr. Shaheen, Incharge Department of Biological Sciences, concluded with vote of thanks. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to both of the students for their achievement by Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan.

IIUI President holds meeting with Deputy Directors 

Islamabad, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held a meeting with Deputy Directors at the new campus on Tuesday where he said that university management is keen to make the institution a leading hub of academic excellence. On the occasion, IIUI President said that management is dedicated to make IIUI economically and financially stable. Honourable President opined that the goals and objectives that have been set to achieve the destination of success demand selfless, untiring, united and honest efforts. He said the university, in pursuit of its objectives of infrastructural and academic excellence IIUI needs joint efforts from all of its segments.

H.E. Dr. Hathal said that the university will progress at double pace in the light of the long term policy devised to solve the economic issues. He urged the officers community to double the efforts to make IIUI more prosperous, progress and successful. He said everyone must be aware of his responsibilities and there should not be any element of negligence in the line of duty. IIUI President also appreciated the suggestions given by the participating officers and assured that response and feedback for the betterment of university shall be encouraged.

World Food Day marked at Sindh University 

Jamshoro, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Institute of Biochemistry, Nutrition and Food Technology (IBNFT), University of Sindh Jamshoro celebrated World Food Day under the theme “Leave No One Behind- Safe Food Today for Healthy Tomorrow” by arranging an awareness walk here on Tuesday. A number of students along with faculty members started the walk led by the director of the institute Professor Dr. Naseem Aslam Chana from the Institute of Biochemistry, passing through the Institute of Art and Design and the Arts Faculty Building to Zero Point. After reaching Zero Point, speeches were made to highlight the importance of food. The speakers urged the people not to waste food.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naseem Aslam Chana said that there was a lot of potential in the food sector in the country; consequently, the farmers should be provided with information about new technologies and innovations and they ought to be given facilities to ensure maximum yield in order to avoid food insecurity and crisis. “We can eliminate food shortages by ensuring utmost food production”, she said. It may be noted that the World Food Day is celebrated every year at the University of Sindh to discuss ways to end hunger, food insecurity, poverty, climate change, healthy diet and lifestyle. There is a need to raise awareness about food security to the masses belonging to rural areas of the country.

Need stressed to raise awareness about mental health among the masses 

Jamshoro, October 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speakers have said Tuesday that creating awareness about mental health and wellness was the need of the hour so that the youth could be protected from cerebral diseases. They highlighted the importance of life and linked it with good mental health by terming it as inseparable.

Dr. Khalida Rauf said that provision of mental health facilities to all sections of the society and consultation at the community level was necessary. This they said while addressing the awareness seminar regarding mental health at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium, Arts Faculty Building, and University of Sindh Jamshoro to mark World Mental Health Day. The seminar was organized by SU’s Department of Psychology and presided over by the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hamadullah Kakeposto said that it was not possible to have good health without the best mental health adding that more seminars will be held to make everyone aware of the importance of mental health. He said that if young people continued with positive and playful activities, their mental health will remain intact.

Dr. Khalida Rauf hailing from Federal Urdu University Karachi said that provision of mental health facilities to all sections of the society and consultation at the community level was necessary. She said that programs related to mental health problems were being made all day long so that people could be kept away from mental diseases adding that a lot of work was being done on mental health in Pakistan.

She highlighted that the mind set of neglecting illnesses related to seeking help from mental health professionals must now be changed. To get this message across, more rallies should be organized. Dr. Razi Sultan Siddiqui who came all the way from DHA Suffa University Karachi suggested that mental health did not mean the absence of mental disorders; rather it meant resilience and positive well-being in people.

Chairperson Department of Psychology Dr. Arfana Shah said that giving awareness about mental health and wellness was the need of the hour so that the youth could be protected from mental diseases. She emphasized the importance of purpose in life and good mental health as inseparable. Dr. Muniza Malik and a number of male and female students and faculty members participated in the seminar.
