ORIC arranged training workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” at UVAS

Lahore, June 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organized a workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ for faculty members here at City Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the concluding session of the training workshop and distributed certificates among the participants while Director ORIC Dr Farhan Jamil, Deputy Director University-industry linkages and Technology Transfer Dr Adnan Aslam and number of UVAS faculty members as participants from different campuses and departments of UVAS were present. Assistant Controller of Patents Ms Shakra Khurshid from Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan was the resource person in the workshop.

UVAS inks MoU with Fisheries Department to joint venture for development fisheries and aquaculture sector in Pakistan

Lahore, June 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and the Department of Fisheries Punjab signed a memorandum of understanding to promote teaching and research cooperation for the strengthen fisheries and aquaculture sector in Pakistan. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (S.I) and Chairman Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman from UVAS while Director General Department of Fisheries Punjab Dr Sikander Hayyat signed the MoU in a ceremony held at UVAS City Campus on Monday.

Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Emeritus Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Administrative Officers of UVAS and official from Fisheries Department were present. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS is producing well trained graduates every year who are preforming their duties in the development of poultry, fisheries, dairy and livestock sectors. He highlighted the importance of capacity building training of fisheries professionals to uplift fisheries and aquaculture in the country.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed Dr Sikander Hayyat on UVAS academic, research projects, national and international collaborations and history of university. Prof Dr Masood Rabbani said that it is necessary to start work on the disease diagnosis of fisheries and aquaculture. Dr Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman spoke about the objectives of the memorandum of understanding.

Dr Sikander Hayyat spoke about the interventions of Fisheries Department by creating jobs and internship opportunities for fresh fishery graduates for their bright future. He said subsidy is being given to fishery stakeholders and new entrepreneurs on fish cage culture as well as to promote shrimps culture in Punjab.

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate in preparation and execution of curriculum of the postgraduate diploma and short training courses, provide their laboratory, library facilities to the students of M. Phil./ MS and Ph.D and the officers/ officials of (DoF) conducting research in the areas of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The scientists and officers from both parties will initiate collaborative joint research projects.

The Fisheries Department will offer internship opportunities to the students of B.Sc. (Hons) Fisheries and Aquaculture during summer break and organize/conduct short term trainings for the student of UVAS pertaining to fish hatchery and farming. They also jointly arrange workshops, conferences and discussions/lectures for their students, researchers, teaching faculty, officers, scientists and other stakeholders in the fisheries and Aquaculture sector.

Prof. Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman assumes charge of Vice Chancellor of The University of Haripur for a term of three years on June 03, 2022

Haripur, June 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to the notification issued by the Department of Higher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on June 3, 2022, following a transparent merit-based selection process under Section 12(1) of the KP Universities Act 2012, the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Article 105 of the Constitution of Pakistan, on advice of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appointed Prof. Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman as the Vice Chancellor of The University of Haripur for a term of three years.

Professor Shafiq ur Rehman is a renowned professor of Biology, having previously served as Dean for 12 years and Vice Chancellor twice at Kohat University of Science and Technology as well as has previously worked on teaching and research positions in South Korea, England and South Africa. Prof. Shafiq ur Rehman has took over the charge of Vice Chancellor from the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ayub Khan on June 03, 2022.

Department of English Organized a One-Day Workshop on SPSS

Islamabad, June 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of English organized a one-day workshop on SPSS on Monday, May 30, 2022. The purpose of the workshop was to equip the participants with the most updated knowledge about SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Mr. Hassan Javed, PhD Scholar and Lecturer, NUML, Rawalpindi, served the occasion as a trainer and shared his valuable thoughts on the subject-matter. The workshop was organized by Ms. Saddaf Adalat for the students of BS English.

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a software program used by researchers in various disciplines for the quantitative analysis of complex data. SPSS provides a fast-visual modelling environment for models ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated. SPSS data is used for surveys, data mining, market research, and other purposes. Overall, it was an interactive session and proved to be a great source of hands-on knowledge for the participants. Dr. Muhammad Umar Farooq, Head Department of English, gave the closing remarks and presented the souvenir to the guest.
