A bogus and unconstitutional election held yesterday which has already been declared controversial by the Governor and Advocate General Punjab: Ch Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, April 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):A joint meeting of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, Members of National Assembly Moonis Elahi and Hussain Elahi including Shafqat Mahmood, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Hafiz Ammar Yasir, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Mian Shafi Muhammad, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Pir Syed Saeed Al Hassan Shah, Wasim Khan Badozai, Khayal Kastro, Nadeem Qureshi, Pir Ashraf Rasool, Amber Mahmood Khan, Samavia Tahir, Sabrina Javed, Farah Agha, Shahida Sajid, Sabin, Ayesha Iqbal, Zeba Umar, Sadia Sohail, Asiya Amjad, Samira Bukhari, Momina Waheed, Asiya Ahmed, Farhat Farooq and Khadija Omar participated.

Addressing the gathering, Ch Parvez Elahi said that a bogus, unconstitutional and controversial election was held yesterday. Governor Punjab and Advocate General Punjab have already declared yesterday’s election as controversial. This is a constitutional issue until a clear situation emerges. Until then we can’t recognize it. What happened yesterday on the floor of the Punjab Assembly has never happened before in the parliamentary history of Punjab.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that the police came as if they had come to attack the dacoits. All this happened under the leadership of Hamza Shahbaz. His target was to scare PTI and our MPAs out of the house. He said that the Deputy Speaker held the election by standing in the gallery which has no constitutional status. Anyone can hold the election by holding a megaphone in the gallery of the guests. Sitting in the place of strangers, a stranger conducted the election. What kind of election is this in which the Chief Ministerial candidate was injured and the election was held in his absence?

The gallery in which our members were supposed to go was blocked by the police, just as they conducted a fake election, they also found a fake governor and took a fake oath. Ch Parvez Elahi said that we have convened a meeting of constitutional experts and a plan of action will be worked out to challenge this unconstitutional election. The application that we filed yesterday has not been registered yet, whereas the case was registered immediately last night at their request. “I would like to thank all the members of the assembly who stood firm in the House against these goons,” he said. I also commend the courage of the female MPAs who stood their ground till the end of time.

Lahore, April 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema, former Federal Minister Brigadier (retd) Ejaz Shah and Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Owais called on Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his residence here and inquired about his well-being. Governor Punjab Omar Cheema said that the commotion in the Punjab Assembly yesterday is very unfortunate. Political opponents of Ch Parvez Elahi also say that he always ran the house on the level of elegance and equality. I am deeply sorry for what PML-N did.

He said that Secretary Punjab Assembly has submitted the report of yesterday’s incident in my office, after looking at the report it will be decided who will take oath. Omar Sarfraz Cheema said that I am a political worker and I have a constitutional position, I myself have fought for the independence of the judiciary, now everyone’s role is before the nation. The Governor Punjab also inquired about the well-being of the Speaker Punjab Assembly Media Coordinator Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry.

Meanwhile, a high-level delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami also visited Ch Parvez Elahi. The delegation included Dr. Liaqat Baloch, Dr. Fareed Paracha while Muhammad Basharat Raja, Amir Sultan Cheema and other leaders were also present on the occasion. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders said that Ch Parvez Elahi is a well-rounded and senior political leader and we strongly condemned the violence against him.

Need stressed for bring political reforms

Karachi, April 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor on Saturday underscored the need for urgent political reforms and serious development of the national economy. “The political reforms are badly needed so that the common man can also take part in local bodies’ elections. For this purpose, the steep fees for candidature of LB polls should be reduced so that ordinary citizens can also think of taking part in the elections, as presently only the elite class can afford the higher fees and expenditures of polls,” he said addressing a party meeting at Gizri.

Mr Shakoor said that to solve the lingering issues of megacity Karachi, it should be given a constitutional status of Charter City. He said people can’t bear more burden of price hike and inflation. He said supply of fuel on affordable prices should be the first step towards giving relief to the masses. He said the previous government was doomed as it failed to control the price hike, adding the present government of Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif should not repeat the same mistake.

Shakoor demanded overhauling poor public transport system in Karachi on emergency basis. He demanded accelerating pace of work on Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and lingering bus rapid transit projects. He regretted that the Karachi in the only megacity of the world that have the worst public transport system in the world.

He further regretted that the rulers have always betrayed Karachi and the Karachiites. He said Imran Khan and his party sold Karachi cheaply and misused the mandate given to them by the megacity. He said that there are good leaders in Karachi but due to a corrupt system they can’t compete in the power politics presently dominated by the elite class. He said Karachi gives the lion’s share of revenue but still it goes neglected.

He said the skilled manpower of Karachi working abroad provides almost 70 percent of the foreign remittances. These sons of soil face the worst discrimination due to corrupt quota system that should be ended for good now. He urged the voters of Karachi to recognize their friends and foes and give vote to the people who are committed to the megacity and its people. PDP Gizri-Clifton chapter president Mian Riaz, Shahbaz Mughal Shaka and others were also present.

GIK’s Project Makes History: Mind Braille Won Microsoft Imagine Cup in Europe, Middle East, and Africa Region

Introduction

Every year Microsoft conducts flagship technology competition, the Imagine Cup. The competition is a global challenge to innovate and solve critical problems of today’s world. The competition is largely considered as the global Olympics of innovation and technology. It involves a jam-packed schedule with multiple stages of evaluation led by world renowned technology and business experts. This year, Microsoft celebrated the 20th anniversary of Imagine Cup bringing the competition to unfathomed heights. More than 10,000 student teams registered this year from around the globe marking the maximum participation ever achieved. Each team included students ranging from multidisciplinary backgrounds and educational levels.

GIK’s Participation

A Final Year Project group, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zahid Halim, applied in the Imagine Cup 2022 with their project “Mind Braille”. The group members include Muhammad Hanzla Javaid, Muhammad Usman Zeb, and Abdul Rafay.

About the project

Mind Braille is a software that allows people with disabilities to perform activities on smartphones. The application achieves this target by creating a portable brain computing interface. With the help of low-cost EEG devices, Mind Braille can analyze and decode brain waves into relevant brain commands. Based on these commands, Mind Braille executes routine smartphone actions like Calls, SMS, Emails, Scheduling, Games, News, and much more. Bridging the gap between people with disabilities and smartphones, Mind Braille has the potential to bring 15% of the population, more than 1 billion people with disabilities, into the sphere of the digital economy, productivity, and connectivity.

Pakistan National Finals

Pakistani students actively participated in this competition with great passion. More than 700 teams registered for the national level championship of Imagine Cup 2022. GIKI’s FYP team got declared as the winner of Pakistan National Finals alongside a team from UET Peshawar and FC College Lahore. This milestone awarded each team a prize of RS150,000 and $1000 Azure cloud credits.

World Finals

Every national level winner from participant countries advanced to the world finals. A total of 48 teams made it to the prestigious stage of world finals. The finals were initially scheduled to be held at Microsoft’s headquarter in Washington but later were adjusted for online procedure due to COVID 19 restrictions.

The 48 teams were pooled in their geographical regions including Americas, Asia, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Pakistani teams are pooled at EMEA, the largest region for the Imagine Cup. At this stage of world final, GIKI’s team stood as winner of Lifestyle category. Microsoft awarded GIKI’s team a total prize of $5000 on this great achievement. This is the first time in the history of Microsoft Imagine Cup that a team from Pakistan acquired the prestigious spot of winning at an entire region.
